Yes! Best to wait until the female is fully grown before breeding and in some breeds of dogs that can be 2 - 3 years old. For me with little dogs they are full grown by 12 months old and so the first heat after their first birthday - which could be one and a half year old is typically when I breed. Hi Debbie, if you don't want to breed and you have an intact male you could have a progesterone test done on your female to ensure she is no longer in the range of being able to conceive. Without that test, I would wait at least 2 weeks after bleeding stops and then I would supervise the first few hours to ensure that he is not trying to mount her. Thank you!

You are the first one besides my vet and a friend saying to wait for the first heat before I get my dog desexed. Most info online says as soon as 6 months is healthiest. My dog is in heat now and it is really really difficult. I regret not spaying her before the first heat. Especially knowing it is healthier and to avoid all behavioral changes.

Thank you for sharing this! Some dog's first heat cycle are hardly noticeable and others are ready to mate. You allowed your girl's hormones to come in - fill in - before having her desexed and this will, according to the people I trust who have taught me, this will help her to not burn out her adrenal glands over time. I have a couple of questions: Do I need to take her to the vet at this stage? Also, do you handle deworming yourself? I'm not familiar with the process. I know that it can get Very Expensive that’s why perhaps I can take care of deworming myself. If all goes well and we have puppies, I plan to give one to each family member as a gift. I live in a high rise apartment complex and my bloodhound puppy is just past that 6-8 month age window… but am not sure what to do whenever she does start that first cycle. She’s definitely not ready yet but because we live in an apartment, I’m wondering what to do when her special time starts. Thanks to you, I now know that she’ll need to go through that very first cycle regardless - but as for what to do during her discharges (especially when she needs to potty)?.. That is where I feel lost. Personally, I don’t want her to be spayed anytime soon. I just wish I knew how to handle the cycle in this kind of enclosed living space.

Hello Romario, Thank you. I buy inexpensive light colored blankets and cover my sofa and top of my bed with them. This way I can see when she is bleeding as well as when the color turns to "straw" - that is when she is most fertile and it is when many people think she is finished. As for going potty that would be the same as what you normally do. She may want to pee more frequently so you may want to pick her up or have her go in a stroller to her potty spot. You can also get a diaper for her and take it off when you take her outside to go potty. If she is an indoor dog only then nothing changes - just make sure you have potty pads in the right places for her to go where she normally does her potty business as she may want to go more frequently. The first heat cycle at 6 to 9 months is usually very mild.

I feel so bad, I had my dog go to her bed on the floor instead of our bed, becuase she ran away, and ran across the street, I was not sure why she all of a sudden just started breaking rules. I then looked up that you can't punish a dog long term, they will not understand. I have never really punished her like that. I was just so worried for her saftey, then I remembered that she might be in heat. for some reason she does not bleed much, the vet said she may have grown her ovaries back. And so then I saw this video. It was natural for her to run away, and such, she was not misbehaving. so luckily she was not in her bed for too long before i figured it out.

We have a 17 to 18 year old (roughly) Chihuahua......she has had two litters before i met my wife. Thank you for asking - this is age related question is something I have no experience with but my advice when someone asks about having a male around a female when they do not want them to breed is to remove one of them - have the male or the female - go to another home for the period of time the female is in season. This would be a great question for you to ask your vet because I have never heard of a female that old continuing to have a heat cycle.

Hello Kimberly, I'd wait a month after her first heat cycle is complete. So schedule the spay for 2 months after you see the first sign (blood) that she is in heat. The first heat is usually not as obvious - meaning not a much blood and swelling as the following ones so sometimes people miss the first one because the female keeps herself so clean. This is why having dogs sleep on a white sheet or bedding can be very helpful. Thank you.

It sounds like you really deeply love your girl! Right? And it sounds like you don't know her DNA and Health traits or how to find a stud or what to do if she has problems in labor? Is that right? You said you are scared - for her, right? If yes to all of these then I would suggest you have your friends and family get their next puppies from a breeder who has done all this work already. Your girl will "feel" your fear for her and that will not be good for her or her puppies - it will make her anxious and the puppies will learn that from her. I would be fine if she had puppies just never did it before and would want to know is it usually natural or do you have to help along with the process? Does it usually go smooth with no complications?And also can the stud come to my home? I work in hospitals and took care of patients also had 3 dogs that reached very old age and were well taken care of through old age issues...My 6yr old silky was very ill the last few months from old age...The vet who saw her to to put her to sleep at my home said she looked 7 yrs old...she said she sees how well taken care of she was...and she seen many dogs she was amazed... I've been keeping an eye on her and check her private area for signs. Imperil Shih Tzu are bred small than the standard Shih Tzu incase you didn't understand what I meant by Imperil. Yes, you are right, you will also see swelling. In the first heat cycle the bleeding can be almost non exsistant and she may lick herself so much that she keeps it clean and you hardly notice. You can get her spayed after the first heat cycle if you are intending to do that. Thank you for enjoying my videos.

Thank you. The length of the fertile time can vary from one dog to the next. Some dogs it is days and others it can be more than a week. The mistake people make is to think that because the bleeding has stopped then the girl is not fertile - which is exactly when she is able to conceive!

Hi! I have a Chihuahua mix named Oreo, and I’m not exactly sure if she's in heat or not... She’s currently 5 years old right now. She’s panting ans shaking as she walks around. It comes and goes and we give her baths to calm her down. Her vulva does look a bit swollen?? And her body temperature is pretty hot so we keep giving her baths to cool her down. I haven’t seen any mounting behavior from her yet like I used to. I'm close to calling the vet because I'm seriously worried something is wrong with her, I love Oreo a lot and I’m very worried. I'm just wondering if this is normal heat behavior?

This is such good information. My female just started heat today. (first day I noticed blood) I've been watching her vulva as it's been swelling. We are not going to be breeding. Our 11 yr old Sprocker is in season, it's been about 4 weeks of bleeding quite heavily and the blood is now very dark. I think this may signal the end of bleeding and maybe the fertile window? We don't plan to breed her. One thing we've noticed is that she is extremely moody/depressed with no appetite and does suddenly become quite aggressive even towards us but particularly towards other male dogs....! Any advice?

It is common for dogs in season to be moody and want more cuddle time. The time that they are most likely to be able to conceive is after the red blood when the discharge turns brown or straw colored - that is the time when most people think the female is ending her heat and that is when she is able to conceive. What I am not familiar with is an 11 YEAR OLD female dog coming in season. Please ask your vet about what you are seeing so as to ensure this is not a symptom of some other issue. Yes! This is - did she just stop bleeding? If so then it lis likely she is ready to mate and she is "marking" her area to send out that message. This is instinct for male and female dogs to mark their areas and for them to "communicate" in this way. Little drops of pee spread along their yard or when you are taking them out for a walk is very normal at this time.

Hello, thank you for watching! Yes, after the girl has her first heat cycle that is the best time to spay her. The boy would be best to neuter him after he has developed - 10 - 12 months would likely be fine. You want their hormones to fully come into development. Extremely informative. Two questions I'd like to ask. How long after the bleeding stops are they still able to become pregnant - a week, a fortnight? Also, my mini schnauzer has two seasons a year, is that normal? Lastly what do you give your dogs for treats? Unfortunately my dog had stones at 4 years old, due to my ex allowing her to eat off his plate! I'm no longer with him so hopefully that won't happen again. Tilly has prescription hill urinary tract food now but I still would like her to maybe have a dog chew for her teeth? Somebody said carrot and was wondering your thoughts on that? Great questions. I would wait 2 weeks after the bleeding stops before giving access to an intact male. And if they seem interested in flirting dancing with each other then I'd keep them apart until that stops. I have several videos on my channel showing what flirty dancing is. Yes 2 seasons per year is normal but so is a female coming in season every 6 - 12 months. As for treats I would give meat that is lower in fat - I have training videos where we show the treats we are using to lure puppies as they are learning. I wrote this and then went back and re-read your comment - he is NEUTERED. How long ago was he neutered? Ensure with your vet that it was months ago so he is not able to. make babies. Big difference in my response now that I caught that! He will not be able to make puppies. He will likely be curious. She will likely flirt with him and maybe more playful but you'll be fine!

Yes, having her spayed is a good choice after her first heat cycle. You may want to check with your local ASPCA as they often have the ability to do a spay at a significant reduced rate from a vet's office if that is of interest to you.

Perhaps put a white towel or blanket where she sleeps so you can see any spotting, have her visit a boy to see if he is interested in her, or have a reproduction vet examine her to confirm her bloodwork is on track for having puppies. Thank you for enjoying my videos!

If you are asking, "Do I need to put my girl in a diaper so the blood does not get on areas I don't want it?" You can do that but please know that will NOT stop a dog from mating. The best way I've found to handle that is to get inexpensive blankets that are easy to wash and cover the areas where she likes to sleep with them

Hi. I have GSD's that I've had for 3 1/2 years and my female will stand sometimes for the male but the male (a year older) is not persistent in mating. He will try for a few minutes, then stop. There are even times when my female will try to mount the male. I'm not a breeder, I just have family who would love to have puppies from my dogs because of their size and markings. Any suggestions?

Hello Viola, Have you done an Embark DNA test on both your male and female to confirm they aren't carriers of known issues? If they are genetically clear and would be a good pair together (their COI - coefficient of inbreeding - is low) then the next step would be to get a waiting list for puppies . GSDs can have large litters like 10+ puppies so making sure you have homes lined up for puppies. Then breeding them - you can use AI (artificial insemination if the maie will not do the job.)

@@svccschnauzers Yes they are clear. It's funny because I have had GSDs all my life (50 yrs) and when I had both male and female mate, they let nature take it's course and were successful. I've never experienced a timid male. My female has always been the alpha (dominate) one. I am considering insemination but I fear that it's probably quite expensive. I did find a vet who does it so I'm going to look further into it. Thank you so much for your quick response.

There are videos that can show you how to do it yourself! I did it recently with one of my boys who was a bit too excited when he was with a girl and so it was easier to do but we will see if it gets the desired result.

I have 2 female dogs in heat and they go threw stages. The one stage I worry of is they fight, bite and attack each other. Many head injuries. what can I do to for the wounds? They never had a collar, frnced in yard. They are Terriers, large ones lol. sisters. My 3rd dog is fixed.

Hello, I don't have that issue of my dogs hurting each other ever. My suggestion is to separate them into different areas of your home so they don't hurt each other. Tnen get them spayed when this heat is finished.

Are you able to take her to you vet to discuss this question? I'm not able to answer that question because I don't know the DNA of these dogs but that is not a situation I want to be in. This is a great example of why it is vital to spay a female BEFORE if you have intact males around her and know it would not be a good thing for them to have puppies together.

The question of how long can you breed a dog will get lots of differing opinions. I personally don't breed males past 6 (but I think AKC says you can breed them until 10 years old.) And with my girls, I let them determine that - if they love being a mom and bounce back quickly I would breed them up to 4 times. (Again, you will find other breeders who do more than that but I want my dogs to thrive in all they are doing and I don't treat them as breeding livestock - for me they are all family pets who are beloved part of a family.) What is your thinking about this?

I have a little morkie she is 9 months old and just come in to her first season .. i will be getting her spayed when the vet says its ok as i had 2 female dogs who i never mated and kept them unspayed they got pyometra at the ages of 13 and 14 years and had to have emergency surgery .. i was so scared of taking them when they were young but then i was even more scared when they were at a old age that is why i am doing my new dog so she doesn’t suffer like they did

Hey Shawn 👋 I'm a new puppy mom to my first little girl pup(born 9/8/22) She is a pomchi puppy that's currently 7mo and going through her heat. I took ur advice and am waiting to spay until after her first cycle. She's finished the bleeding portion, which started March 28th, but now she is getting fat or swelling under her lower 4 nipples. Im worried because I'm not sure what she's supposed to be experiencing after the bleeding part or how long heat should last. So, after the bleeding part of heat, what do dogs go through for the rest of their cycle and how long does it usually last until she's finished? How will I know her cycle is over? Thank you!

@SVCC Toy Schnauzers I've got a little shih tzu who just turned a year old. I do want to breed to my male. I know I need to wait some time still but her first heat I had a diaper on her. He did mount her for less than 3 seconds and I grabbed him and he yelped. I don't think he was actually inside I think I just scared him but now she is on her second heat and she licks herself so much either her doesn't know or he's too scared to get to close to her because of what happened the first time. I dint want to breed them right now either but neither is showing a drop if interest at all. I just want to know that at some point I can breed them. How will I know. She licks so much I wonder if he can't tell but then again her vulva has never been as big as your female dogs is. As I said she just turned a year im not wanting to breed them yet but im not being shown any interest and that's really all I want to see at this point. ❤

Yes! You are correct appetite and what playtime looks like can change for a female when she is in heat or season. If you have a dog that is used to going outside, I would walk her on a leash and be with her all the time when she is outside. Nice long walks will be helpful to her if you are able to relax too and enjoy the walk yourself. CBD pet chews are also helpful with some dogs to get them to relax - you may want to check those out if she is over the top uncomfortable.

Just got a dog had her appointment scheduled for spaying as her prior owner said she wouldn't be in heat for another couple of months but that was a lie so now I have to wait a month or so after her heat ends to have her spayed 😢

Oh how I wish that our dog's heat cycles were like clock work - I have a software program to help me keep track of it and there is no consistency some times the heat cycle is 5, 6, 7 or 9 months apart and other times they don't have their first heat until they are over 12 months old and then on one occasion I had a girl come back in heat 3 months later (this is called a split heat) ... so we do the best we can with what we have and keep on going. Bleeding can occur for a range of time from one to several weeks. Yes. Females are usually ready to breed just after they stop the heavy blood flow and the discharge is more of a wheat color. How many times did you breed your girl? Was this a planned breeding with a male you selected?

Forgive this but here it goes...I heard my male puppy (6 months old) screeching n crying out to me from the other room. I ran to him. I picked him up and hit the lights for an exam. Well, he had full on erection that was causing him pain and trying to get at it to soothe himself. Is this normal cuz he was very frightened and so was I? We didn’t spay our pug because we originally wanted her to have babies for us to keep and give to some family members. By her 3rd heat we decided we didn’t want to do it and I was going through rough financial stage so didn’t get her spay after. Now she has it again and she’s suffering so much or at least I feel like she is. You can see she wants to be active so bad my poor baby 😭😭😭 My other baby is a female blue heeler. She got spayed after her first cycle. But omg the pug keeps posing for the heeler and the heeler humps her. She’s done that to the put when the pug is not in cycle. Usually when they’re playing and the pug gets super mad. But now that the pug is in heat she’s actually looking for it 😭😭 I just want to know how to help my baby pug.

As it relates to the date / or days to breed - the female will tell you when she is ready by moving her tail over - scratch her rump - does she move her tail and lay it flat giving access to the vulva? If so she is signaling that her body is ready. If you are saying you want to breed a bulldog, I would suggest looking up the specifics for breeding bulldogs because they may have some specific challenges due to their "un-natural" body type - they have been bred to have some special needs and I don't know what your dog looks like. Also it is very helpful to DNA test both the mom and dad to confirm they are clear for known issues. You've probably already done that but if not I have a link for Embark to get the best price to do so. Did this help?

Yes, that can happen if the timing is close for them. But if a female just had a heat a month or two ago and then another comes in heat she will not come in heat again. Most of my girls have their heat cycles 1 or 2 times per year.

Very good video and I like your energy an explanation of things! It show that U like what you do and that matters! I have mail and female dog. My female is in heat now and I want to keep her away from my male so male got neutered but little late, I hate to do it to him so I was thinking and thinking and not knowing what to do. I did not want to damage hi, I know it is all about hormones he needs in his body and I did not want to stop the hormones. He is about 2 years and he is one year, she is in her first heat ever and he got fixed but I read that he could still make her pregnant one month after being fixed. He is boarded at vet now and I want to bring him home, but I am afraid, do not want them to make puppies, they both are mixed breed and I would have hard time to find home for puppies. I do not know exact day he was neutered but I came to pick him up at vet and he was done . It was 30 I found out and not sure exact day, will ask vet, She had both of my dogs for 2 weeks when I was out of country. When I picked them up, she told me my female is in heat, she is bleeding, also I did not ask when it started. I do not know how much of a danger is there if I bring him home soon. I also red that she may be interested in male like only for 5 or 7 days. But how do I know? Her vuvlva is big, do I have to wait till it gets to normal size to get them together, they used to play a lot and I know she misses him

Hello Estella, First, when a dog has been spayed (Neutered) they no longer go into season / heat / have a period. So if your dog is bleeding and creating a smell that is attracting other dogs then she has not been spayed. You are correct when a female dog is in season she will loose her desire to eat for a few days - just as a male dog around a female who is in season will also. I use ground beef when I have a dog that is underweight from not eating enough and I also feed by hand. My dog is a rescue, she was definitely spayed before I was able to take her home. She is now 13 yrs old and this is the first time her vulva became enlarged and her breasts size also changed. I've taken her to the vet for help but in the meantime we are waiting for results to see if hormones are present or not. But definitely, my dog is spayed.

My suspicions are that my dog has " Ovarian Remnant Syndrome " that occurs in female dogs that not properly spayed. My dog is definitely going through this stage. If not corrected she can develop "breast cancer " and if not treated it can lead to death. The information I found in my research from www.vcahospitals.com. I had never known about this diagnosis in dogs but my research leads to this conclusion. I am waiting for my dogs blood test results.

She will likely "flirty dance" and lay her tail down flat to one side - these are signs she is ready. I begin having the male visit sometime between 7 - 19 days after the bleeding and swelling of her vulva began. Do you own the male you are breeding her to? If so he will know when the time is right!

Hi there! Thank you for your video and your dogs are adorable💜 So here's my situation. I am in no way trying to breed dogs HOWEVER I happen to have an intact male dog, and we are unexpectedly babysitting my mother in laws intact female dog indefinitely. The female dog has gone into heat and my life suddenly feels miserable😵‍💫 it's like a frantic hectic mess over here as my (normally) super calm male dog is now constantly pacing and whining and scratching at doors to get out of the room. We have to keep them in separate rooms at all times and it's just really hard. My question is how long is this frantic stage going to last. I started to notice the heat happening about 7 days ago but it was mild for the first 3 days and the dogs at that time did not need to be separated. Then it turned to 4 days of stronger heat and total franticness in which we have had to keep them completely apart. Her vulva is swollen for a few days now and there is some dried blood I can see. Any advice on when my male dog will calm down and life will feel calm again? If it were my choice I would neuter both dogs but for some reason my husband is dead set against it and as for my mother in law, not sure why she hasn't spayed her dog yet who is now 5 years old. Do you feel there is any reason to keep a dog intact other then for breeding? Thank you so much. Just trying my best to keep my sanity among dogs in heat😫

Hello Nikki, First thank you for watching my video and for sharing your experience! You asked about spay and neutering - once a dog is a year or over - once the dog has gone through one heat or a male has gotten to be fully mature around a year old, then the research shows it is best to spay or neuter them. In my puppy agreements (when someone buys a puppy from me) that is what we agree to. In your case the female can be spayed after she finishes this heat cycle especially if you will continue to live there with your male dog. You shared that your husband is dead set against neutering your male dog. It may be worth it for you to explore with your husband why he has such a strong stance on this issue. I do have boys who are intact in my home because I breed them but as soon as I am no longer planning to breed a male we have him neutered because it is better for him to not go through the CRAZY period you are experiencing. It is not good for a male dog to go through that if he is not going to mate (and release all that pent up ...) The best thing you could do for your male dog today is take him away from the girl who is in heat. Get him out of the house. Is there a way he could visit a friend for a few days? I even know people who will stay in a hotel to have a male away from an in season female when she is prime for breeding because it is so hard on the male. Please let me know what you decide to do and again thank you for sharing your experience. Hope this is helpful to you!

​@@svccschnauzers thanks for the reply. No we do not have anyone to leave our dog with for a few days except my mother in law and she is the one away which is why we have her dog lol . Our dog is extremely attached to us and would have so much anxiety if we tried to leave him anywhere else. This is a weird situation as we have never had to babysit her dog before so I think I'm just gonna have to bear through it and hope we are never gonna be in this predicament again. I was just wondering if you had any idea how long the male dog stays frantic like this. Is it just for a few days or do they remain that way throughout all three weeks (or more) while the heat cycle is happening? Thank you for your time.

@@nikkicat3811 The duration of the female being able to conceive is when the male is crazy. That can vary from one female to another. Some of my breeding girls are willing to be mated for for 3 days other for 2 weeks. I do not know the female you are dealing with and how long she is typically in that stage. Your boy will need long walks and time away from her - if possible put him in the car and drive with him or get him out of the house in other ways. Also, the smell of her will need to be washed off of any of the bedding etc that she is on. You may want to keep her confined to one area so it makes it easier to clean up after she is finished being in heat / season.

Let's hope she's more of a 3 day heat gal as opposed to a 2 week gal😬. This is a really frustrating situation to be in. Ok thank you so much. Ok thank you for this, im so new at this.... I'm in my 60's and just wanting to get into breeding. I've had other shih tzu's and love the breed so much. I've taken my male who is nearly 5 into shows just to learn. I wanted to show him so bad but I tripped over him right at the most crucial time and shattered my femur. My owner handler status is pretty much shot and his coat needs more help than I can devote to it but i waited to talk to a judge just to see if I would have been wasting my time anyway. He put me through some passes with him and said it had been years since he had seen one so perfect, happy, willing that loved being there. He set a fire under my rear. He has a great pedigree and my female is granddaughter to European champion. I'm getting another from one of the absolute best breeders in the US, mom and dad both grand champions and has already produced a champion but she didnt show because thats when covid hit. I have the coice to have the breeder finish her or not, I will probably get another European champion male that would round out my first breeding stock because Ive got some great lines to start out with I only want to try to keep great lines going and maybe only sale to breeders or pets. But im going to need some crash courses because my 4 yr old female will be here in 2 weeks. I'm told she only did DNA testing on her original ones so I'm sure ill need to do the same before I let them breed but one thing I'm under no misconception about is making money. I've been told from the start don't think your going to do this for money because your going to be sadly mistaken. Do it for love of the breed and I couldn't have said it better myself I know people don't understand your putting all your money back into the little furballs. Ive yet to find an insurance that will care for any breeding issues should they arise. Anyway I'm worried I scared the love of my life from breeding. It's because of him is why I even decided to do breeding in the first place. (I have 0 family left, a few friends who know nothing of breeding and my furbabies) who are all I have left in the world that I care deeply about. I have nothing better to do (I just lost my son a few months ago) so this is going to help me get out of bed everyday and continue on. My Maltese is in heat again, this is her third season. This time she is acting VERY DIFFERENT this time!!! She is all over the place, she’ll go in circles, and nudge nudge nudge you and your hands (I have to hide my hands after a bit because it starts to be too much after a while, lol I can not do ANYTHING with my hands if I am around her, she will nudge my home out of the hand, paperwork, etc… to get petted around her face, especially her belly, and she DEFINITELY makes sure I know where she wants to be petted. She will EVENTUALLY get to where she circles about 5-6 times and then will cuddle up against me. She will either snuggle up against me and sleep for a while, OR it lasts about 10 seconds and she’s back up going a million miles a minute all over again! It’s like she can’t get comfortable and doesn’t quite know what she wants to do, it’s definitely exhausting for me, so it must be for her… I do have found a boy to breed her with, but I think I want to wait another cycle before we introduce them. She was just at the vet yesterday for her exam and shots, and everything is good, she’s healthy and doing great. Any information and or advice you may be able to offer would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you for watching my videos and being open to learn with me! Since you are planning to breed her? Have you done the Embark DNA testing on both her and the male? Please do that so you are certain you are breeding dogs that are not carriers or who have genetic health issues that would impact a puppy. The health testing that is important for your breed would be good to double check that too. Then you will be ready to breed your girl next time she is in season. Yes, what you described is very common when the female is old enough and ready to have puppies! The first heat cycle may not be noticed because their is less blood and the female is not really ready for breeding by the 3rd heat cycle you can't miss it! Thank you

I personally don't use diapers - I cover my sofa (and areas where they like to rest) in washable blankets. Diapers will not prevent a male dog from tying with a female just to make sure you are aware of that too. 😊

@@rhonamocke6527 The first heat cycle usually is less time than later heats. The first one is often 7 - 10 days. Later heat periods can range from 7 - 20 days. I highly recommend you let your dog go through at least one heat cycle before having the spay surgery so that her hormones are full developed and thus don't wear out her adrenal glands later in life (I've learned this from vets but don't know the science myself behind what I just wrote.) I life in a very confined area and I have 3 poms two males one female so I put a DIAPER on my female! It doesn’t stop the males from going crazy but it gives some piece of mind that nothing will happen if I happen to loose focus of them for a minute

Let me check what you are saying ... are your males intact? A diaper will not stop them from mating with a female in heat! A diaper helps with stopping blood from getting on a bed or sofa but it is not a preventative from males being able to mate with a female.

Youre advice on when to spay or neuter isnt actually the best advice. stidies show that even waiting for one season still predisposed dogs to lots of very undesirable health issues. If you absolutely cannot do management of there seasons then please consider only doing a partial spay and leave the ovaries. Nature gave our dogs hormones for very important reasons and their bodies require these hormones for various things that their bodies require. Sidenote- peroxide takesnput blood stains/biological stains very nicely. just make sure to rinse it with water after its lifted so you dont get overall color lightening.

Yes! That is what dogs in heat inspire each other to do! Which is a great reason to have a dog that is not going to be bred spayed at around 12 months old. Thank you

My female dog is highly aggressive with the male & absolutely refuses to mate, she hides under chairs, sits down when he starts coming towards her, and she's at day 12 of her heat so I'm worried she's just not gonna breed at all. It's her 3rd heat

What you described is often common with dogs that live together in the same house. (Although don't count on this with dogs that live in the same house if you don't want to have puppies!!) Your female may not be ready - her ovulation may happen later like day 15 or 20 after starting her heat cycle. What breed of dog? Large dogs often need to be 2 years old or older to have puppies.
