This morning in band I grabbed my Mello out of the case, went to try the valves to double check if I needed any good ok valve oil and all 3 values were pushed down easy but just didn’t come up. After the valves did come up they were perfectly fine(took them out and inspected them) and went on playing stand tunes for another half hour with 0 issues lol.

Bro music teachers do not let you get away with not playing unless you absolutely can’t. “Your wrist is broken and you can’t play your violin? Practice the fingerings.” “The bridge of your cello shattered because somebody tripped in it? Get the Frankenstein school cello that might be missing a string and that nobody wants to play or attempt to tune” (the cello one was indeed personal)

me reading this in astonishment that your schools could afford one cello, let alone a few and then one that can sort of go spare. I had to take a small loan to buy my first clarinet as a lad How the other half lived when they were 12 years old! I can imagine the kinds of elitist, stuffy teachers you got in environments like that we had one bass guitar and one acoustic guitar - both were nearly 20yrs old because they were the music teacher's personal instruments - I say music teacher, but he was on the salary of a teacher's aid because the facility couldn't afford another teacher. Jolly old England...

Tripped during marching band rehearsal once. Two valves straight up stopped moving and it was in repairs for what felt like the better part of a month. When I got my trumpet back, everything was fine. It was clean and the valves were functioning… except for the third valve. If I held it down for too long it would be slow to rise up and no amount of valve oil worked.
