Hot take: most of those comics, like a lot of KZbinr merch, is incredibly average. Like, if any of those stories were stealth dropped without the big names attached to it, most would never look at it with a second a thought due to how mid they are. That being said, if we can acknowledge that, it’s perfectly fine for them to do that. A bag is a bag.

​@Jaydub07 Love has nothing to do with it fans "support" out of temporary pleasure and coping mechanism and the creators create for money so it's a basic transaction of what both sides wants. Let's not forget how most of these fans are kids so its not even their money that they're spending which just makes it easier for them to consume and these creators to get paid. The merch point of the original commenter was idiotic but if people wanna indulge they can therefore they will and just because something is average doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable. I admire RDC World for how they’ve made anime more popular within the Black community, especially when it was once considered unusual. Ok this is gonna be a little off topic. And i dont want to be the guy who crushes people dreams. but for a small average creator (in comics) who have big dreams and goals. I dont see how you find this inspirational, like at all. From what im seeing in the indie comic space unless you have alot of money OR status your not gonna get far. Brandon chen, moist critical, rdc world, cory. All these creators either have money from a outside source or status. Most indie creators DONT have that. And even if you grew your channel with your product ALONE, who's to say how long that will take?. Whyt manga first video on Apple black was TWELVE YEARS AGO. And who's to say how long hes been making money off of his work alone. And recently (don't want to give names) I've seen two indie manga creators either switch careers or stopped chaseing it as a job and just does it as a hobby while doing something else cause they werent being payed enough for their labours. I'm all about hard work but I'm also all about working smart. chaseing a career in something where your rolling a million faced dice and hapeing you get a six (figuratively speaking) doesnt sound smart. The west (unlike Japan) doesn't have a established standard for manga. So it's a nightmare for the average person to get noticed. And it may not even pay well if you do. Wouldn't it be better to produce your story in a different meduim/ industry where the chances of you being noticed are higher? (or at least a little more fair).

Well you can say that for a lot of things. For instance, being an artist or a youtuber. You do not get paid at all until you gain an audience and people either buy your product and/or service. Any entrepreneurial endeavor takes a lot of time to develop clients and an audience, of course being in America raises the difficulty by a significant amount which is why you need to build an audience outside to generate sales for your product. These are the difficulties that come with anything hard in life we just have to analyze, adapt and ascend.

He’s passionate, just not very talented or focused with that passion. His initiative was built off of purposefully taking out certain ideas or issues in his works and making them ideologically sterile for his fanbase. His stuff is incredibly generic and bland as a result, so I can understand why someone would look at that junk and not think it was made by an inspired mind lol.

@@h3llboyyy407 great way of telling me you don’t actually read any comics and just consume shounen stuff lol, comics have far more dynamic and striking styles bc of the rotating door of talent that they bring in to illustrate or write. Grant Morrison is idiosyncratic and random with his storytelling, using visuals and minimal dialogue to convey meanings, while someone like a George Perez or Kirby is very verbose with heavy emphasis on narration texts to describe their scenes, it’s exaggerated and a more classical kind of storytelling. You have artists like Jamal Campbell or Gleb Melnikov which have very distinct styles, and then comics having COLOR gives it an insane edge in stylistic depth, with the colorist being able to elevate a comic’s style to another tier if they’re good enough. Manga *can* vary, but manga usually just sticks to a singular mangaka for both the story and art, so the style of a manga is completely defined by the ability of the mangaka themselves. It leads to great stuff like Usogui if the mangaka is cracked, but usually it means you’re stuck with generic styles that follow boring conventions with designs in manga, there are 700 manga series that look exactly like each other for every “unique” style you see. Rippa’s comics are derivative and follow a vibe of a certain era of comics, so all it’s able to do is vaguely remind you of other, better works instead of feeling unique. They’re ultimately made to spite modern comics, and everything is following from that singular stupid goal. His art is stagnant and dull, the heroes generic and uninteresting, and the world feels uninhabited and empty. That stuff only bangs if you don’t actually read any comics and just watch YT shorts lmfao.

Everyone knows the general consensus that manga is a lot more detailed and varying in tone/themes/art etc in comparison to comics which follow a lot more linear path of things already done before.

The money that they earned is money that smaller creators by default shouldn't be able to get "first dibs" just because they are small if the books they make was all that then people would be happy to buy the other thing is most indies suck not remotely that good in story or art and have zero business sense or know how at all anyway or no personality

Elaborate on this topic please. I partially agree with you. The hard truth you’re ignoring is the following they’ve amassed being an obvious shoe in for buying at LEAST the first volume. This will still result in revenue that smaller creators who are actually worth a damn may never see. Though I do agree this is largely due to their inability to accept that business and art must converge if they wish to succeed.
