Makiko the musician produces absolutely beautiful instrumental and vocal music, while at the same time Makiko the magician turns my knees to jelly! Love this band!

Very nice. Sounds great. Love the whole presentation. Not trying to be flashy. Just playing the music. That's what it's all about, Charlie Brown.

Tamura sings very well, just as she plays a brilliant clarinet, best wishes from me in England

The lack of any swing, drive, or rhythm at all is cruel to the ear. The only positive aspect is this clarinet girl (and I swear by my dead mother's beard it's not because of her looks!). She sings with a remarkable naturalness. And her clarinet playing is really fine.

I'm thinking they would sound tighter with drummer who used his kick drum, assuming he has one. A standup bass wouldn't hurt either. I agree about the clarinet player... She deserves a better band.

You couldn't be more wrong to my ears, excellent musicians all through, playing great. I didn't know this tune, but I'm glad they did.

Agree. They're not a very good band. Tamura is better on her own with less support. Look at this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZuYZn2mit-CsLs&start_radio=1

I think the problem was that the rhythm section was under-recorded, because of the way the band was set up in relation to the microphone. The banjoist played a great chord/melody solo, the trombonist had excellent solo ideas, the trumpeter laid down the melody with tasty embellishments, and the clarinetist had a smokin' vibrato, hot tone (on a Boehm system) and a passionate feel in her solo and rideout chorus---excellent intonation too, even at the very top of her axe. But you're right, a good bass instrument would have helped...although the Hot 5, New Orleans Wanderers/Bootblacks, Blue 5 and Red Onion Jazz Babies and various Lovie Austin groups got along fine without bass or percussion. If the banjoist were more audible laying down a solid four rhythm, that would have made a big difference.
