Hawaii is the 50th state in the USA, not a country all on its own

Statehood in late 50's. That's why SURFING and it's related sport SKATEBOARDING, became all the rage IN THE SIXTIES. Because HAWAII, who invented surfing, had just been inducted!

I was going to mention that even in Australia we know that Hawaii is a state in the USA. Also Rachael Taylor is from Tasmania, not a country but a state of Australia

Michael Fassbender is actually Irish. His dad is German and moved to Ireland

I was going tk say that too

He’s not the only one whom they got it wrong. This video should be title “where celebrities _were born” because that’s what they’re listing - everybody knows Fassbender is irish, Hugo Weaving is australian (of british origin) and Oscar Isaac is naturalized american….just to name a few.

Just because someone is born in a certain country doesn't mean they're "from there".

Michael Fassbinder was born and raised in Ireland.

He was born in Germany, his mother is Irish and his father is German. His family moved to Ireland when he was two, so he would probably see himself as an Irishman. I always thought he was born in Ireland, until I just did a Google search. I just had to check Hugo Weaving, I always thought he was born in Australia, but he was born in British Nigeria, to British parents, his family moved to a few different countries with their work, and moved to Australia while he was still at school. That was just as big as shock that Michael was born in Germany, eventhough his last name is German.

The video should be titled “Where 30+ celebrities were born” as that’s what’s the video is listing and not where _they’re from_ - to give you the first, in video order, examples of what I mean: Michael Fassbender was only born in Germany but he’s _irish;_ Hugo Weaving is australian of british origins; Oscar Isaac was born in Guatemala but he’s naturalized american (his parents moved to US when he was 5 **months** old).

Yet the USA does not call Charlize Theron an African American
@larynOneka80809 ай бұрын
Charlize Theron is South African, not African American. The term African American was invented by Jessie Jackson in the 1970's to describe descendants of enslaved Africans. Slaves were interbred with slaves from different countries and they weren't allowed to pass down their culture so most slave descendants had no clue what specific country in Africa they were actually from. It was never meant to describe people from the continent of Africa because they obviously know what country they are from.

@@larynOneka8080 Americans call all black people African Americans. Even people that are from the Caribbean and other countries.

She's not ethnically African. If I am a black man born in Korea then move to Amerca that won't make me an Asian-American

Wrote my comment before I saw that same error with Essie Davis, surely it would be prudent to fact check the difference between a state and a country before making such an assertion on social media.
