That's one of the best KZbin explanations of compacted extra dimensions in quantum physics. Congratulations!. In quantum physics this has nothing to do with imaginary non-Euclidean dimensions in mathematics like the paradigm of sphere crossing flatworld and perceived only as a 2D shadow. Here the concept of compacted extra dimensions is really normal Euclidean XYZ spatial dimensions plus time of Planckian finite size and that describe different moving manifolds and vibrations. So for example having a ribbon or string you can twist in many forms (i.e. manifolds) and also making different loops or knots. The simplest example as such is as also shown in the video a single rotating circle manifold. This is automatically an 8th dimensional object. More complex manifolds and motions will make up more dimensions so you get the picture. In quantum physics beyond the standard model, if ever a new elementary subatomic particle would be discovered that would have finite Planckian dimensions (dimensions comparable to the Planck length) this would make it by definition an compacted extra dimensions particle. Currently, it is technological impossible to detect such particles and we only hypothesize their existence.

our universe have more than 4 dimension. we always require a d>4 array in computers to solve computational problems :D

Nobody ever talks about Kaluza-Klein theory :(

I definitely thought about talking about Kaluza-Klein, but I wanted to keep this video more general! Kaluza-Klein could have a whole video on its own (hint hint...)

I've always assumed there must be a higher dimension that our flat 3D cosmos is expanding into, otherwise our universe would have to curve back onto itself.

Great video. Thanks for explaining this to us!

Based on our current observations, there are no hidden variables. Only if there are hidden variables would there be a need to explain them using hidden dimensions. Therefore there are no extra dimensions other than the 3 spatial and one temporal that we experience.

Damn, it's always mind-blowing how far away the Planck scale is D: Can't anyone just tell us if there are higher dimensions? 🥲

Its way too complicated that just requires the dark portion of the universe which in essence isn't dimensional- just invisible -to propagate matter and quanta energy in waves. Maybe all this is designed to keep us confused?counting dark matter as N05 would satisfy relativity in wave form as gravitational waves are super massive.

Liked your videos so far. But Schrödinjer equation made me question my life choices 🤦‍♂️

The interesting question is not why physics requires more dimensions, but what the specific number of more dimension that physics requires.

higher dimension to various people: engineer: so it is a n-dimensional array, but the elements are continuous. physicist: it is the extra terms that added to the matrices to make string theory somehow make sense. mathematician: the dimension of my brain over your brain. written as dim_yourbrain (mybrain) = d > 3. The symbol _ denote subscript. Also mathematician: what is the definition of higher? what is the definition of dimension?

This has always seemed like an excessively imaginary rationalization for the dimensional disparity. How many extra dimensions can dance on the head of a pin?

Interesting, but is there any basis in reality to any of this? OR is physics dead wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. Probably won't be the last.
