To my fellow Baritone players out there, what bari do you dig? I've always been very curious about a JM bari but haven't had a chance to play one yet...

I have a Yamaha Drop6 with humbuckers and locking trem. They're not made any more, so I had to wait a while for one to come up for sale. All stock except for Duncan Screamin Demon in the bridge. I use DR DDT 13s, B to B. Sounds great, stays in tune, and cost me less than $400.

I built one from a Affinity JM, used the body and totally gutted it, put a Warmoth conversion neck with hipshot bridge and locking tuners. Could of bought one complete but this one is mine.

I like that baritone sound (I think it's a baritone) in Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools. It's that twangy but heavy sound.

It is true Brian Wilson did include a baritone guitar on some of the sessions he produced, but I've never seen a picture of him with one. Do you have a link you can share?

You give a lot of verbal examples but I would looove to hear you play some examples. Otherwise, great and informative video 🙂

I looked up Duane Eddy and listened to the track "My Blue Heaven". It's awesome classic rock! It includes a baritone guitar solo in the lower register later in the track. You can do the same! Enjoy!

Have you tried tuning the baritone up to standard E-e tuning? Doing so supposedly gives you a massive sound for rhythm playing. At the very least it would make for an interesting experiment to do a video on.
@Stringjoy4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Maybe another good video idea there. Would be a good way to show the effects of scale length on tonality. My hyopthesis is that it wouldn't be a *huge* difference-it's not like 25.5" strats are considered to have a "massive" tone compared to 24.75" Les Pauls because of the longer scale length, but there would definitely be a difference.

We don't, right now we don't make a baritone acoustic set but we will change that at some point soon.

can a baritone guitar be tuned to drop C?
@LemonMeIon3 жыл бұрын
Yes. 27” scale would work well for C.

the longer scales allows it to remain stable at lower tunings

You can have some real baritone fun if you get an Agile 630. Its a 30 inch scale. Of you want baritone extended range, you can get an Agile 930, 9 strings and 30 inch scale.

Hey Scott! As a bass player who later picked up guitar, I've always been interested in a baritone. But just have not found one that really felt good to me. Do you think that it is a good middle ground for shaking things up? When I play guitar, it's normally just chords and rhythm (that's such a strange word) playing.
@HANKUS Жыл бұрын
check out the Bass VI as well... its similar in feel but is EADGBe bass.. has a bit deeper sound than a baritone but is different from the bass
@rodshop5897 Жыл бұрын
@@HANKUS Yeah, I played one in a music shop years ago. I didn't really bond with it, maybe because I didn't like the voicing when I played chords, and for this tuning, I find basses to be my preference.
@HANKUS Жыл бұрын
@@rodshop5897 i personally really enjoy the baritone. i do find it to be the more in between instrument. Only downside i see is when you're playing with others, you have to know how to translate or use a capo (and loose some low end) did you end up getting a baritone? just realized i replied to comment from 2 years ago
@rodshop5897 Жыл бұрын
@@HANKUS Yeah, my singing voice is in the baritone range, and I can capo or play open on a baritone guitar and get a song into a more comfortable register for me. And I like the deeper and richer tones compared to my guitars. And yes, I picked up a Squier Paranormal Baritone Cabronita Telecaster in surf green and have been enjoying it quite a bit. What do you play?
@HANKUS Жыл бұрын
@@rodshop5897 im starting to cater my instrumental writing to my voice range... been struggling otherwise to sing some of my visions... strongly considering rewriting a specific song on the bariton as it sounds more haunting anyway im not familiar with that baritone telecaster... super cool name btw and the baritone i play on is a "danelectro 76?" ... my friend lent it to me and ive been enjoying exploring it... i got a few videos on my channel showcasing it along with the bass VI if you are interested

Now I’m wondering how many great guitars I’ve missed out on because they’ve not felt right when I played them when actually it would just have been the ubiquitous rainbow strings.

I don't believe I said a brand name. But FWIW I used to play their strings myself before I started my journey into making better strings, so I don't think down on them at all. But I'm telling you, the low B on this baritone set was AWFUL.
