@@ThomasLouttit So, after the land was taken, Aboriginal people shouldn't have any of these rights, don't forget their First Nations People, you are not. So their Rights are different to the white man ,who only have a claim , based on Overseas Legislation. Why do you think they keep changing the laws. So, First Nations People haven't any entitlement to what they had. Is it right for white governments to tell other nationalities what to do, how to live, and where they can go. Especially in their own lands, if you didn't want anything to do with us, why didn't you just leave us alone, and continue to let us live our own way and practice our cultures on our sacred areas. You've blocked them, and bulldozed them to get to your materialistic way of life, what lays beneath the topsoil. Is your way of life even benefit your own or have you let the weak perish.

@@kevinfergusson694 Hi Kevin, for me it’s very simple, we are all Australian, it shouldn’t matter if we have indigenous heritage or European or Asian or Middle Eastern or African or Nordic or American or Caribbean or Pacific Islander heritage, the point is we are all Australians, and we are all represented by the same parliament and we are all protected by the same laws and social security networks. The Voice would create an additional representation that would separate 3% of Australians from the remaining 97%. Kevin, if Australia enshrines the Indigenous Voice in our constitution, then why can’t we also enshrine a Middle Eastern Voice, or an Asian, or European heritage, or a Pacific Islander or American Voice, and we can continue with specific sexuality or different Religious Voices, the list is endless. As you can understand this would be crazy, different laws, representations and entitlements for different peoples. We are all Australians, and we should be united as one country and one people. I will vote to unite us, not divide us. Thanks.

According to the interweb there are, or were as of July 2022, 11 federal members who identify as indigenous , including the house and senate, out of a total of 227 members in total. That’s 4.85% of the federal members compared to more like 3% of the population. How can anyone claim they do not already have a Voice to parliament? My voice to parliament is my local member - I have no idea of her ethnic origin and don’t care: she’s an Aussie just like the rest of us.

@@johncater7861 the solution to indigenous problems must come from within indigenous families. Not from governments or organisations. It will not be solved with legislation or by money. It is simply a matter of taking responsibility for the course of your own life and teaching children that they are capable of achieving anything if they are willing to put in the required effort. The current system of blaming all problems on long past events and other people is the cause of disempowerment. I just don't get why it needs to be an amendment to the Constitution. If the government wants to establish an advisory body, there's nothing stopping them. If it's more than an advisory body, then that should be set out.
@User9r682
@User9r682 Жыл бұрын
Primarily it makes it more difficult for a future government to abolish, but being a constitional body also gives it more legitimacy and political weight thus making it harder to ignore its advice. Given that the referendum only asks if such a body should be created what its structure will look like and the actual powers it will end up having are up to the current government and any subsequent High Court rulings that involve them.
@edwin5419
@edwin5419 Жыл бұрын
@@User9r682 meaning any future government that doesn't want it can completely gut it or just completely ignore its advice, rendering it useless. How is that any different? The structure is up to the government of the day, not to the current government. As the structure will be legislative, at best the current government can impose upon a hung/minority parliament, and at worse it will be used as a bargaining chip to gain major concessions in other areas.
@User9r682
@User9r682 Жыл бұрын
@@edwin5419 I didn't say any future government will be able to make alterations to this voice thing. Unless specifically mentioned in the constitution no government will have the legal authority to alter the voice to parliament in any way. While albo has said they'd ignore any advice they don't agree with (much as is the case already) other commentators have said it would be a brave government that does so implying that this body would have some teeth to it. Thus far the government has not presented any details to the public about the voice other than it will exist and that it will be advisory in nature. Without seeing a draft of the actual amendment we can't know for certain how any of this will work out.

The core principle of the original proposition, generally seemed to be a fine and noble one but it has morphed into something that is much bigger. There are well over 100 Aboriginal agencies with the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) seemingly, to be the main one and it would seem that their main function is to communicate with the government and its various departments on all matters of aboriginal affairs and yet something is not working for these people. Governments, past and particularly the present one have not handled this matter well, but I hope that whatever happens, we can all find a better way forward and those people that are in need of some help, get it.

Why it was a discussion for those that wanted to put a proposal to the Government, and to have the correct documentations to show what the proposal was about and if it would be accepted, before its put to the public, plus, with it being a Aboriginal document, we have to make it acceptable for a "Racist population to Approve. and accept, because we know that it not just a "Racist Population "to accept, we have to counter the "Racist Media" and politicians that are going to put misinformation out on the "Airwaves" to an easy to manipulate Racist population, that haven't assimilated with First Nations People, and vote negatively against the " Voice" . That's why the "No Vote" and Sky News reporters , have been putting out every lies they can think of, since October 2022, the "Yes " information has only just come out. White Australian cannot understand and think for themselves, plus they've never had a "fairness and it's the right thing to do system " ingrained into their mind, only generational racism,.
