I just played a lot of historic bo1 events with a discard deck. Rankle’s prank is really good! I also have liked cards that make discard extra to get back on tempo and lifegain important like the black marsh X spell and collective brutality. I also think that some form of cheap clock is important like the black shrine that drains for 2CMC or 4 drop liliana and davriel. As there is a ton of izzet wizards matchups my deck has probably skewed towards that matchup quite a bit. There is definitely more to gain out of the lands here as well: field of ruin, blast zone and bojuka bog did work for me as well as one of hive of the eye tyrant and castle lochtwain. Ive tried a bit of a toolbox with beseech the mirror and karn tgc as well which definitely helps.

Collective brutality and the black X marsh spell works a lot to me! Discard your hand and gain life. Don’t play (a lot of) creatures. Makes all the modes very good.

they actually don’t really work well together: land destruction decks want LD early so your opponent pile of cards in hand doesn’t matter anymore. While discard doesn’t care that much of your opponent’s lands because your opponent will not have enough cards to spend their mana on.

Alchemy as a format sucks, using alchemy cards on historic does not suck. Undercity plunder is my go to 2 cost discard. I would have added invoke despair as synergy with tergrid but the demon card is nasty.
