You can’t, every time they show a city in CA I wonder where they found the info because it’s usually not accurate. If it’s niche, then niche needs to update their records. CA is full of crime, low income like $40k will let you maybe live in a studio alone and that’s it. Oh and you can’t really drive because gas is $5.28/gallon and up. I retired in 2015 and moved to #1 Missouri City, Texas from California. Best decision ever. We absolutely love it. It is super diverse. It has beautiful neighborhoods. There are lots of Black entrepreneurs. Black people are thriving. Before the pandemic, the price of houses was low. Sadly, like every place else not so much anymore. But still reasonable by California standards. Three things I do not like: 1) the weather we’ve lived thru 2 major hurricanes so far. Parts of it is prone to flooding and the humidity is awful. 2) Property Taxes are sky high. 3) The politics: open carry and anti-choice. Although, I’m married it seems like there’s a good dating scene; my daughter, God daughter and a family friend have found husbands. It’s the Bible Belt so it’s still somewhat traditional.

Alexandria should NOT be on this list. Hell the DMV in general. But the Northern Virginia area is not cheap by far. I’ve been here going on 11 years and $40K is nothing to survive on. Unless you’re a business owner, nurse, federal contractor, government worker, or in the IT field, you would be living paycheck to paycheck on $40K. Most people have 2 & 3 jobs, rent rooms, commute, and take public transportation or ride share DAILY. Mainly, building new businesses drove up COL even higher. 1.) Northern VA & D.C. offer higher salaries bc it’s more expensive. If you’re making $80K and live in D.C., you’re probably paying at LEAST $1700 for an apartment. And that’s in the hood. For jobs that are in high demand, some employers will pay for you to relocate & offer sign on bonuses. Nurses and Police Officers are in HIGH demand here and offering $5K sign on bonuses. For DC Police, they’re paying $60K base, $20K sign on bonus, and $65K after 18 months on the job. Federal workers & law enforcement officers get locality pay, overtime, hazard pay, shift differential, uniform costs, etc. so that doesn’t eat your take home pay too much. 2. Since they’re building new businesses, traffic is even worse than it was when I moved here. Most people don’t even live in the town they work in bc it’s so expensive and they don’t get locality pay. So they live in small towns & outskirts, Maryland, & commute. I’m talking driving anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours DAILY with little to no traffic. 3. Anybody that wants to move to the Northern Virginia area- really need to do their homework. On any given day, you’re in traffic. And I mean stop & go or a complete standstill. And not because there’s construction, a funeral procession, road repairs, parade, events, or accidents. To avoid that, most government workers, take the train or “slug.” The latter meaning driving to Woodbridge, park, and then ride with someone you don’t know but they’re going to the same place or area. We have HOV lanes & before 10a going North, you have to have at least 3 people in the car with you. From 11a-3p going South, you can get in the HOV lanes by yourself. After 3p-6p it’s going South and after 6p anybody can get in the HOV lane. Now I think you have to have an EZ pass to get in any HOV lane. 4.) Nobody tells you that the commute and driving in general, will garnish your wages too lol. You could off an exit for Manassas and it’s still damn an hour’s drive before actually being in the town. Downtown areas, D.C. Arlington, Alexandria, Dulles, Vienna, Annandale,Falls Church, Occoquan, Sterling, Springfield, Tyson’s Corner, Fairfax, etc.- you’re gonna have to pay for parking. Some parking garages in D.C. charge $15, I’ve seen others as high as $60. Most times you’re parking on a street and putting money in a meter. Unless you have a parking pass, you better research to see if there’s any free parking garages or business owned parking private lots. Unless it’s in an office building, you have to find somewhere else to park. 5. Every year, by law, you have to have your car inspected. Any non factory upgrades, is an automatic fail. They’re constantly changing laws on what you can have enhanced on your car and usually you find out when you fail an inspection or get pulled over for it. Often times, police don’t cite you for it. But you’ll have to put the factory stuff on and get it reinspected again. Don’t get me started on HOA fees. Civil War monuments and battlefields, Confederate flags, and the police not doing jack shit to stop street racers. Want to adopt a pet from a shelter? It’s $350 now and you have 30 days to get them spayed or neutered or they’ll “repossess” said pet. Already have pets? You need a pet license. No I’m not talking about a pet deposit, an actual tag to put your animal’s collar. If you don’t mind all the bs, Northern Virginia is lit. With the exception of one particular county, the police officers are really nice. They don’t harass people really. They might tail you and run your plates but for the most part they’re chillen at Wawa or I95 talkin shit. And they make $50K base salary. The people can be a*holes but for the most part, everyone is nice and minds their business. It’s not a lot of violent crime where I live- just Walmart thieves, methheads and dumb kids breaking into your car. We have a FB page exposing them 😂

Add Denver, CO to this list as a place to avoid. When I lived there up until a few months ago, I knew SEVERAL professional black women who left that city with a QUICKNESS. In professional management positions in marketing and in tech-they all complained of the lack of diversity, which leads to lack of respect, shallow dating pool, lack of a sizeable and visible black middle class/professional community, and so on. I told them it wasn't that much better there for us professional black males as well; I left after five years and I actually stayed 3 years longer than most of my other brothers and sisters. Very informative video but I’m not sure where your getting the Cali stats from. I’m in Southern California now and there’s nothing diverse about it at all. Nothing but Asians and Hispanics (mostly new immigrants). Rarely do you come across blacks anymore unless you’re in the hood. All the blacks I know are leaving. Cali was the place to be 10-30 years ago but it’s definitely not the same now. 👎

Thank you for this. I was considering Cali, but your comment scares me. I was looking at being in more well to do Black areas because that is what I’m used to, not the hood as someone else mentioned, but predominantly Black areas so that cancels it out. The housing rising prices are enough for me to turn the other cheek. Curious though, which other areas Blacks you know are relocating to?

Right, I’m like for black women yeah right. CA is no longer black friendly. I especially would never want to raise a black male in most parts of CA. The lack of diversity I am noticing became worse after the Pandemic. Even the work place diversity is awful. The school systems are trash. Unless you make a million plus your place will likely be outdated and small. Don’t be a women that enjoys shopping and makeup etc, you will have no room to put it all. I hate to not like my hometown but it’s awful. You have to be a freakin model to get a guy’s attention. Nothing in California screams black women winning. Unless you’re a two parent household having more then one child will cause you a great deal of set backs. Even if you had a lot of money it’s stressful out here and people are so rude and unfriendly. I don’t feel safe leaving nor coming home. How are you supposed to date in a city that takes a hour to drive there and a hour wait for a table. Most people out here are in relationships for a roommate situation not cause they’re in love. It’s so dirty out here. Most people need cars to commute even for groceries unless you order in all the time.

That’s funny I lived in new Rochelle for about a year I moved back with my parents in April so I can save and purchase my own property with the next year. I was renting a 1 bedroom for $1,600. I loved my apartment and wish I kept it but if I did I’d always be renting. it’s hard to save when your paying such high rent even for some one who makes on average 40k-50k a year! Regardless I do recommend New Rochelle if I can find a property within my price range when I’m ready to purchase I’d definitely consider moving back.

Moving with little to no money is challenging, especially with a small child. I advise that you save as much as you can, pinpoint exactly where you want to move to, how much security deposit and 1st months rent will be (I recommend that you have at least 2 months of rent). Decide how you will travel there (car, plane, bus or train) and how much will these travel expenses cost you. Take a look at your credit, if it isn't at least at 620 (acceptable to rent a decent apartment) then start working on it. Will you be able to transfer your job? If not, you will need to research employment opportunities in your field of experience. Lastly, once you decide on your new home destination, join a couple of groups (Facebook, KZbin etc) so you can network and make acquaintances that will be of value to your transition.

It should never be about just black women excelling, or just black men excelling (which the media will never acknowledge because all media outlets are controlled by the system of white supremacy; and black men are threat to white genetic survival), it should be about black men and black women working together to excel together. We never see division like this from other races because men and women of other races work together to excel together. The issue with a lot of us black people is lack of mutual respect for each other. We will never ever see titles that say " Where do Asian Women Excel" or "Where do Hispanic Women Excel?" We as a black race must align ourselves with other ethnic groups where the men & women of other ethnic groups pull together, to excel together. If we don't do this, black women will continue to be the most unprotected group of females on this planet. This is a set up by the system of white supremacy because black people, as a whole, continue to operate and function off their emotions. It's all about how they feel when it must be about how we think so we can analyze the situation before putting ourselves in it.
