First, my condolences for your loss. First time dog owner here and I am dreading the day when it comes. I loved the minidsp series on sub alignment and EQ. I'd love to see how to use REQ with the UMIK1 and balancing mains and surrounds. Both checking time alignment and EQ adjustments to fill any nulls. I'm using an Onkyo that does have built in EQ per channel. On a side note, there are a bunch of videos on MiniDSP and REW. I've taken nuggets from all of them and one of them showed that it wasn't really necessary to build in a house curve in the REW EQ when you could add a house curve to the MiniDSP input channel and tweak it in realtime to suit your preference. Even going so far as to use the presets to create different house curves that you can move to depending on the source. Hollywood still hasn't seemed to follow any real standard and I find myself constantly tweaking my sub levels from one flick to the next. Sci-Fi and action are great one day and then a thriller the next day has almost no LFE at all!! Being able to flip from one house curve to another with the MiniDSP remote is awesome!

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah... losing a pet is definitely not easy, especially when faced with the actual decision to say goodbye. Hopefully you're dog lives a long and healthy life. In regards to using the input channel to add the house curve; that is a totally viable alternative to applying the EQ from REW to the output channels. The main reason I don't typically do that in the tutorials is that there are some folks who use BEQ (Bass EQ), which are EQ files downloaded and imported on the input side of the miniDSP. It's intent is to alter the LFE section of a soundtrack that may have less than stellar or gimped bass response. I'm personally not a fan of this, but I like to leave that option open for those that do. In my original series I used the input side tweak some of issue areas in the EQed response, but with the method I use now there really isn't much of a need to do that anymore.

Thanks for the information and your openness on the subject, sorry to hear. The manual EQ tutorial would be of big interst to me, as i have used every trick in the Denon Audyssey App arsenal to optimize the acoustics. Great to see the ideas for the new content.

Thank you so much. We really appreciate it. The manual EQ stuff should be a lot of fun, but I also want to do something for those that have and use Audyssey and may want to stick with that. Might be kind of a difficult though as Audyssey locks more advanced features behind a $200 paywall.

Hey Brad, thanks for the update. I’ve been wondering where you were at. So sorry to hear about your cat so in regards to the mini DSP tutorial. I definitely think it would be advantageous to release the entire video in one shot with marks for chapters. Also, the video that I am most highly anticipating is the manual calibration using REW beta. I am currently using the beta, but still have trouble getting down to the right speakers. I may not be using the right version.

Thank you for the kind words. In regards to the manual calibration; that's still coming. I need to make sure OCA is cool with me referencing his Atmos sweep files for the video; I want to make sure people have access to those easily. Super excited to do that video though, and it goes hand-in-hand with the updated miniDSP tutorial.

I have 5 cats now but did have 6 but I had to have one of them put to sleep, she was 20 years old and had seizures. 😢 I've recently used your minidsp 2x4 HD and rew guides, they were a great help. Ever considered doing more content like that as there are some updates to minidsp application and audyssey multeq x supports our x6300h av receivers so maybe now try to incorporate everything. I'd also like a redo on object based audio in games and I remember enjoying your test where you recorded only sounds from the height channels. Take care and I'll hopefully see you on my TV soon! 🫶 Edit : I wrote this at the very start of the video as I paused it to mention the cat thing. I say release an uncut start to finish version. Then an edited full version. Then split it as it's probably quite a good money making topic. I'd love to watch a calman calibration on lg oled, I have the website open in my phone but I'm not sure which camera to buy ie spider etc! You make content specifically for me! ❤

Thanks! - I think I would prefer REW tuttorials to be in "chunks" (chapters) that would be divided into logically progressive sections dealing with each phase of running through the setup, configuration, measurements, and final adjustments to user preferances (house curve). I have the UMIK-1 and the MiniDSP HD and four SW -Two older 15" Velodyne 5000's in the front corners and two (also older) 12" Klipsch SUB12's in the rear corners - with a Denon 4400H, with the Multi-EQ Android App. - in a 24' x 24' HT room with 8-9 ft ceilings with basic wall treatments.

Thanks for the comment and recommendation. I’m think one long video with chapters is the route I’m going to go. I tend to take the logical and methodical approach anyway so that should make it easy to follow for folks just starting out (I hope).

Are you able to do a video outside of the how to were you take your sub into another room that isn't so nice for audio and show us what we can do with a minidsp, the compromise that we'll have to deal with and also what the compressor setting does and how to use it.

That's a great idea. My original series was done in my living room with vaulted ceilings, AWFUL acoustics and no real treatments (other than curtains on the windows). But I do still have the miniDSP FLEX setup out in the living room and have some extra subwoofers lying around, so that should make for an interesting video.

Hey Brad! Sorry to hear about your cat. Thanks in advanced for all the video that are coming up. I am really looking forward to the minidsp tutorials. @HomeTheaterGamer
@HomeTheaterGamer Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words and support. It's truly appreciated. A miniDSP 2x4HD can totally work with a single subwoofer, it's just a bit overkill for most folks haha. Nothing wrong with using it with a single sub, and you're fully equipped if you ever add more down the road.

@@HomeTheaterGamer Thanks a lot! May i ask your opinion? I own a rel HT1508 (15 inch) subwoofer and im thinking of adding a Rel HT1205 (12 inch) subwoofer in the back of my living room. @caczech Haha. Who reduces the bass!? Honestly probably useful for those in an apartment or really bass heavy headphones. Also, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has an insane amount of audio options to tweak for streaming/recording. One of the few games I’ve seen that allow you to basically “scoop” certain frequencies to make your voiceover more pronounced.

A question from a Newby. I am on a budget but have managed to get a denon 3800 and a svs sb3000 to use with old speakers and an old receiver to get a 7.1.4 setup. Wife says no to another sub. The room is 12x14. If I get a mini dsp, will I be able to tune in the set up better than without the minidsp? If so how close would it be to having 2 subs? Thanks for the help.
