You 🤗 just starting with watercolor and you’ve been a major inspiration for me 💛

Jenna, I just love you. You are definitely an inspiration. I did The Artist’s Way over 10 years ago and you just made me realize now would be a great time to pick up the book (and workbook) and do it again! I am a Christian too and I couldn’t have described more perfectly how we are made in God’s image and how that might impact the way we look at the human form and nature. I’ve watched some of the artists you mentioned and none of them compare to you ❤️

Don't want to sound like a teachers pet but i really do find inspiration from you. Just in the way you break down complex references into basic shapes, s shapes c shapes etc. And i bet your mom's garden is the best floral inspo. Love That description, yes figures are inspirational because we were created by God. Zoe Hong on KZbin has some really great tutorials on 9 heads fashion illustration. She's also got a really fun personality. I couldn't get into the artists way. It just didn't resonate with me. But i know many artists feel differently. I have a vintage botanical book, that i got when i volunteered at the library. Also love Matisse and his loud use of colour. And when i think of Van Gogh i think of ochre and cobalt.

Awesome very helpful video Jenna! So happy to hear you bring up The Artist’s Way. I read it to help with depression....just to get my neurons firing in a different pattern and hopefully form new connections. It’s a great book all around. Now I am off to click follow on your Pinterest acct.

Thank you Jenna for sharing your tips for inspiration. Even your color palette and brush choice, they are so helpful. It’s takes the guesswork and overwhelm feeling away for any beginner water color artist. I am an acrylic abstract flower artist on Instagram but find watercolor medium is the fastest way to express inspirational sketches. 🌸

A shocking place I find inspiration is in old fabric on vintage Mattel dolls! They are just so beautiful and I find myself using the prints as inspiration when I create wallpaper in my paintings or even as a pattern for rugs

Sorry for so many comments. I don’t own a television. If I want to watch something, I watch art related YT videos. I keep recalling other channels that I find interesting or inspiring or just entertaining....CeeCeeCreations, Nianiani, Natasha Newton (I think that is her last name). On a different topic - who knew Russell Brand had depth but he has a podcast and YT channel and has some amazing intelligent and thoughtful conversations with people such as Vandana Shiva, Edward Snowden, Brene Brown, Jordan Peterson, Gabor Mate....

Oof Nine heads looks exactly like the thing I’ve been looking for. Am going to look for these books second hand or make my library order them. Thank you for the tip. I don’t really struggle with inspiration at all but I’m a beginner in drawing and painting and need to develop my technical skills before inspiration can get me anywhere. Lately I’ve been doing (and putting off doing) Drawabox lessons to learn form and it’s just soul-crushingly boring, though it teaches the necessary fundamentals I need. So far it’s more geometry than drawing.

Pinterest is wonderful for reference photos and sketching tutorials. 😊 'Flowers of the World' is a beautiful book! May have to track that down. 😊 I'm getting a lot of inspiration from coffee grounds at the minute. The patterns they make in the bottom of the cup have sparked a few sketchbook sessions for me. 😊 Another great KZbinr is 'The Mind of Watercolour'. I've learned a lot from Steve. 😊

Thanks for sharing your inspirations! I have a question on crediting reference (hopefully related to this video). If I see a photo on IG or Pinterest that inspires my painting, should I mention the photographers or designers if I share my painting?
@Cascadeis3 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you copy someone’s work (even if it’s a photo) you should always give credit! If you just use it for inspiration, say you make five flowers just not the same flowers for example, you don’t have to credit your inspiration.

Hello! I'm asking several of the watercolor artists I follow on KZbin this question: What do you do with your learning attempts? By this I mean all the early-on, new to watercolor paintings that look terrible and are all wrong. What is a new student supposed to do with her practice pieces?
@watercolourartincapetown29193 жыл бұрын
great question Rene, no art attempt is terrible. There is always a lesson to be learned and if you keep your work you can see your progress over time. Plus i sometimes just give old practice pieces a quick tweak to freshen them up or improve them. Good luck :)
