Yes and no. As the imam said, there is no English word that can really translate the word haya. The Arabic language has approximately 12 million words, English doesn't even reach the 1 million. Trust me, there is no language in the world that can compare to Arabic and much less to Islamic concepts. Sometimes there is a need of entire hours long lectures to understand a concept.

The word haya' may not have a direct translation but the concept is very well discussed and thought through in the west. It's called being insecure and acting out emotionally from those insecurities.
