Not only did I play the original Murder Mystery around the time when it first came out, I don't think it can be put into words how revolutionary the game was. The forced first-person perspective wasn't too common in games at the time, and the limited field of vision made it harder for the player to scope out the area and see what was happening. It was also clever how everyone was anonymous in-game, because it made it harder to distinguish individual players from each other, and also made it so no one could become the target of personal attacks. And I could be wrong, but I think the original version lacked sound effects, which added to eeriness, since anyone could drop dead at any point and you wouldn't know until you'd enter a room and find their lifeless body lying on the ground. The original version felt a lot more like an actual "murder mystery," as opposed to the updated version where it's basically one person going on an open killing spree until either all the innocents are dead or someone manages to shoot them. I also remember that the original version only had six maps: Lab, Office, Mineshaft, Haunted House, Terraria, and Italy, so the remake you shared in the video isn't a 100% faithful recreation. The lab included a machine that would actually reveal each player's role if you were to step in it, and I believe Terraria had a teleport feature that would send players to a hovering island above the map, so if the murderer were to kill someone up there, their body would often plummet to the ground. The mineshaft had one area that contained a glitch where players could actually escape the map by pushing themselves through a very specific spot on the boarded up entryway, and Italy had a sewer system that was nearly pitch-black.
