WHERE IS SHE? | Sailing the Indian Ocean
Welcome back, final preparations are being carried out on board our floating home, prior to us weighing anchor to embark on our final leg, crossing the Indian Ocean. Sailing non stop, over 1000 nautical miles from the Seychelles islands to Tanga, on mainland Africa. Winds over 20 Knots are the order of the day here, add to this our newest crew member, Hannah, from Canada, has never sailed an ocean before, it's shaping up to be a lively passage. Then Rob comes up on deck at night and can't find Rachel. Where is she?

@@TheCruisingKiwis There was a case of an experienced UK sailor earlier this year sailing with friends sat in a fairly deep sided monohull cockpit and he was ejected MOB by a sharp wave whist the boat was heeled over .. If I remember it didn't go well the water was cold he wasn't wearing a floatation device and he may have had a coronary or struck his head as he was ejected. 2:53 And this, children, is how NOT to do radio exchange. First, don't repeat it three times. Second, don't die down at the end of the phrase when pronouncing the name of your boat. The response from the operator confirms what I'm saying - Rob decided to whisper the end of the phrase (as he often does on camera) and the guy had to ask. Say it loud and clear. Third, don't include any nicknames or "fun facts". The Cruising Kiwis is not part of the boat name. And "Javelot or Jabelot" only confuses the radio operator on the other end. Side note: don't give your boat confusing names that are pronounced differently from how it's written, remember, you will have to say it hundreds of times on the radio. Fourth, "copy" means you heard and understood the other sude. Radio exchange is simple - say WHO you are calling, say who YOU are and say WHAT you want from the other side. So the exchange should sound as follows: "Victoria Port Authority, this is sailing vessel Javelot, leaving Seychelles for Tanzania". The response would be "Thank you. Bon voyage". And he can go back to his morning coffee. AMATEURS! 😀
@TheCruisingKiwis
@TheCruisingKiwis 2 ай бұрын
See that's why people learn so much from our mistakes. Some notes: we inherited the boat name, the radio course I did says you should repeat 3 times (which usually don't do), umm what else. Can't read your comment now so that's it for now

@@TheCruisingKiwis And in 10 years you haven't found time to rename it?! Changing a boat's name takes 15 minutes on the internet and 30 seconds to reprogram the AIS (roughly 4-5 hours for each operation if Rob decides to do it... and you will need a new AIS). And it costs some tiny money. I'm serious. Rename it Cruising Kiwi... or Ivan. Then he really WILL be Ivan Ivanovich. 😀Javeot means spear in French. And it's a STUPID name for a catamaran - IT HAS TWO HULLS ergo TWO spears!

18:09 What the hell!!! "Production boat for coastal cruising"? Too much sailing forums, madame? There is NO SUCH THING as "production boat". Do you really think there's a difference? They are ALL made the same. Whether it's an FP, a Lagoon, a Sunreef, an Outremer, a Marsaudon, a Gunboat, whatever. Same mould, same epoxy, same process, everything is absolutely the same.
