This bike is phenomenal. I absolutely love it. I remember first seeing a full suspension bike back in the 90s, it was a trek Y frame carbon fibre thing that blew my mind and what got me into mtb. I can honestly say that this design blows me away just as much as the day I saw that trek. How innovative and simple it is and how well it works. I bet it must have been a eureka moment when he came up with the idea. I simply have to start saving for one. I need it in my life. That red and gold is like mwah chefs kiss.

Everything about it is brilliant: elimination of side loading means no stiction, higher volume of shock lube means you're pretty mich garunteed to never experience cavitation or hysterisys and makes service intervals are longer apart, the lower ratio of strut movent to rear wheel travel and both chambers, positive and negative

Putting my hand up to being a Kickstarter supporter of this brand. At 5’7” I find the medium frame to be a great fit. First thought from the thumbnail alone was, "Oh boy another impossible to service internal 120mm shock" Have to say I was proven wrong and actually am interested in one. Not this year but I am putting it on my short list of options in the next year. Also looking forward to seeing detail vids of the full shock service process. As described the process seems a bit of work but rather simple at the same time, the fact that you can use common tools really takes it to a level that has been missing from a lot of other brands that try integrated shock systems.

SUCH a great idea!!!! It weighs WAY less than a standard shock and shock mount. It has a larger positive chamber and larger negative chamber that each have their own valve and allows you to fill each separately with your shock pump. Room for a larger volume of shock oil, and cools that oil more efficiently than standard shock making hysteresis a thing of the past. Widest possible tuning range of any air sprung frame/shock combo available on the market. Fuckin genius! To all those working in marketing for the cycling industry, THIS is innovation. Not a wheelset where the front rim's internal width is 3mm wider than the rear rim's. Not making handlebars unnecessarily wide in the middle and way to stiff as a result. Not chainstays that are the same length for two smallest frame sizes then get 8mm longer on the 3 largest sizes. THIS is innovation

The one thing about this bike is how it looks so high quality with the design and especially this paint scheme. Boulder even built a road bike using this style of suspension. I'm a casual rider, yet Isostrut-gimmick was for me a decisive moment that made me give up on Supercaliber.

It is absolutely clear that to support the rider's weight the shock has to be under the side force all the time. This force will constantly add wear to the bushings and try to break the upper tube. There is no other joint other than one at the shock that could hold that weight which is a force applied downside.
@DigitBikes
@DigitBikes Жыл бұрын
This is specifically discussed in the video around 3m20s.
@AidarIslamov
@AidarIslamov Жыл бұрын
@@DigitBikes yes, it is discussed. Nonetheless it is only stated that this shock is designed similarly to forks but forks are not under so much side stress as this shock. Forks are only under stress during braking. All other time forces come only from left or right side during cornering and a conventional fork is very rigid in these directions because it has two legs which are connected at both ends. On the other side this shock is under continuous stress. I am not an engineer but it is the first time I see such a technical solution not only in a bike but in any mechanism. Any manufacturers claim that their products are durable because it is beneficial to do so but that is not always the truth and it is naive to blindly trust such claims before they are backed up with the test of time. This design is new and intriguing but I trust solutions proven by time.
@DigitBikes
@DigitBikes Жыл бұрын
@@AidarIslamov forks are under the MOST stress when braking, but there are rarely no stresses. If there were no bending/twisting/side loads, people would not be concerned about fork stiffness, people very much are concerned about that. I am an engineer, and have worked in the aerospace where some aircraft landing gear linkages have similarities to this arrangement, and in automotive where there are considerable side loads on the Macpherson struts in cars' suspensions. Trusting solutions proven by time is prudent, I’ve been testing this since 2018, which was enough time for me, but I understand that each person has their own standards for trust, and that others didn’t see my testing.

I'm a fan of the concept. Unfortunately, the tinkerer in me would probably be against riding a bike I couldn't swap shocks on. That said, it would be an ultra unique ride
@DigitBikes
@DigitBikes Жыл бұрын
Tinkerers are definately welcome, I'm one and that's what got me here. The shock can be stripped all the way to the shims with pretty normal tools and knowledge, you can tinker way more deliberately and precisely by custom tuning the valve stack than just throwing any old shock on any old frame. There's more information regarding this on my website and youtube channel if you look for "Integer Strut".
@letsgo_inc
@letsgo_inc Жыл бұрын
@@DigitBikes Oh nice you replied. I get your point but I meant the inability to run a coil or the purely vain concept of having something different on there. However, thinking seriously on the coil issue, my first thought is the sheer size of the integer strut allows for a larger negative chamber and other optimizations that improve initial sensitivity. Plus there are fewer bearings and pivots throughout the design. I was hoping the review would comment on this. Do you think someone who generally prefers coil shocks could be happy on this?
@DigitBikes
@DigitBikes Жыл бұрын
@@letsgo_inc There's WAY more air, and WAY more oil, which both help. I have a friend who typically puts coils on his bikes, but says he prefers his Digit over his coil bikes.

@@DigitBikes 5'2", 390mm. I realize that's a shorter reach than today's bikes have (even for my height). It's the reach of my Pivot Mach 5.5 extra small and even they no longer offer a bike that small. I follow Lee McCormack's sizing recommendations (author of Mastering Mountain Bike Skills) for "rider area distance" and have found them to be excellent. He goes against the grain in a lot of ways, but backs it up with decades of experience. I highly recommend checking him out, if for no other reason than to see a different take on bike fit and mountain biking technique.

Looks amazing and an engineering playground. Can only think that bottom bracket section would suffer in the UK. Any thoughts on this
@DigitBikes
@DigitBikes Жыл бұрын
I grew up in the UK, so this was definitely on my mind when designing this area. It's basically just two bottom brackets, each has two rows of bearings (8 rows in total) and is very well sealed (14 seals in total), the set on the link isn't subjected to cantileverd loads and is also shielded from contamination. Also the link has a sloped top surface so that water and dirt won't build up and pack in, the slope directs debris away from the drivetrain.

@@DigitBikes I did notice the accent (with a California twang) so guessed you had UK origins. Thanks for the good explanation. I particularly like the slope to the link. Really nice touch. Using the crank/BB axle as a lower pivot is genius. As is the integrated struct/shock but TBD how that will perform. One concern is BB bearings tend to wear out frequently in my experience. Will they wear out even faster here?

@@DigitBikes I misunderstood the design. Thought the rear pivot was a bushing that rides on the crank axle. Just Looked at the photos on your website but can’t see the design. Based on what you said, sounds like the pivot rides on a sleeve/bushing in the BB, but You’re saying the rear pivot is supported by a second set of bearings? Obviously you have to disassemble the rear pivot to service/change BB. You could replace pivot bearings at the same time if needed. Get you point about these bearing being well sealed and do not experience the cantilever loads that the BB sees from pedaling. If I am correct than the BB and rear pivot bearings are concentric but independent. The BB does see extra load from suspension forces but these are lower moment / torque than the cranks generate. It is indeed very cleaver. Well done.
