this was confusing. I did not understand how the machine could carve outside of the carving work bed area. The blue area appears to be outside the cnc bed.

I think what might be confusing to some is that you are changing the point of origin in the software not on the wasteboard. It doesn't matter where you start just so the router knows the point of origin. Great video.

Love your videos :) Just finished setting up the xcarve and ran a trial. It started right up and worked. No tweaking necessary. Except I didn't tighten down the bit to the router tight enough and it fell out/down mid carve. Red button saved me! Can you please tell me where I can find the .svg or g code to the brackets/clamps you use in this video? Would love to make my own. So many things I want to make for just the machine. Appreciate it.

Awesome! The file for the bump stops is in the inventables project page. The router bit does need to be tight but do not over tighten. Congratulations on getting your machine up and running. If you ever have any questions please email me and I'll do my best to answer any question that you may have.

@@PawPawsWorkShop thanks a bunch! I'm having a little problem. I think Easel updated? I see drop down that says under Cut Path, Clear Out Pocket, Cut on Shape Path, Cut Ouside Shape Path and Cut inside Shape Path. I want to do 2 things. I want to clear out pocket and cut out, outside shape. Do I need 2 images on top of each other to do it? I made an svg and Sent Backward to cut outside edge and then put image I want to "clear out a pocket" on top then merged together. Am I doing it wrong? These are images, not text and not shapes :) that I completely understand. I tried adding 2nd bit. But I'm confused.

Hi Phillip, Ken here. Are these plans able to be modified ? I cut a couple of these out but they don't fit the FA4040XE. I Know nothing about modifying g-code or programing. Not sure what to do, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Great videos by the way !

What program are you using? In easel and VCarve for example you can change the design any way you wish. What are you trying to do
@shelby50411
@shelby50411 5 жыл бұрын
Ugs is a free program called universal gcode sender....it can operate the xcarve without having to be online and using easel...easel is convenient but if you dont have internet like me its useless..so i use ugs to carve most of the time

Paw Paw, When you move the router into your new home position can you lock this position? This way you can move the router out of the way to change out pieces for carving and have the router go back to your last home position and begin next carve. I ask because I am learning not teaching. Thanks
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can lock you motors the gcode $1=255 when changing bits. If I understand your question, no but as you see in my videos you can jog the machine to other locations and then move back to the original location. I choose to not use last home position. I have had the machine loose that setting.

Thank's PawPaw....just my pea brain thinks as you select a different location under "Shape->Position", the black dot should move to the upper left, upper right, lower left, lower right or center of the material. At least that would make more sense than having to move your design and take the chance of not grabbing an element of your design (like the Mayan calendar)...Just my $0.02

This is to further explain that one can literally establish any point required to produce the desired results. There has always been questions about this topic. I attempted to not just limit the position you noted but rather any number of positions can be established. Each project is unique and has a good, better and best position to accomplish the carve.

I have a number of videos on this topic. The main point is that the x,y,0 on the design screen must match the exact place you put the router.

@@PawPawsWorkShop I think I finally got it, I have watched your different videos related to this and it’s getting clearer. I'm glad that you are beginning to understand it. It is a lot to take in. There is so much to learn. I learn each and every day. Keep at it and it will get easier. Don't be afraid to try different things. You will learn from each project that you do.

First, let me start by saying that I am just setting up my X-Carve now, and I'm watching videos every night trying to learn all of the hints & tricks to keep from making mounds of scrap. So, in this video, I missed something. Where did you tell Easel that the X,Y,0 was not in the lower left of the waste board but at what looks like about X=250 mm, Y=570 mm? Some how, I missed that. Thanks in advance.
@PawPawsWorkShop

The object that you are creating in the design portion of the screen will determine where the x,y,0 position is location. You goal is to match what you have on the screen with what is one the actual table. If your bit is precisely located on the project exactly where the x,y,0 position is on the design screen then when you go to the checklist and it asks to set the x,y,0 position. You click ok, then you are set.

Came to this video hoping it would show me how to set the zero point in a clear and succinct manner - it did not. I just want to know how to set the zero point within the project to match the bottom left corner of the work piece, regardless of where I place the work piece.

Oh, by the way, I do think it is important in that if the thickness of the wood varies at all it will affect the carve. Not a risk that I want to take.
