Just turning 60, it cracks me up about Uni as I grew up in Santa Barbara and spent nearly every weekend on the beach while my dad dove for urchin and abalone. and we spent the whole day at Santa Barbara Harbor, watching buckets of urchin being brought in and that was way before sushi was a popular thing in the United States. I always asked my dad. What are those creepy spiky black things in those buckets, and he explained oh they’re going to Japan … and now many years later to discover what a delicacy it was that I constantly saw being unloaded from boats just makes me laugh.

I love the rose in the ice for weddings!!!However I work in the medical field and have some SERIOUS CONCERNS with hygiene that are EASILY FIXED!! Think a hospital surgery room meets UK 🇬🇧 SOCO (Scenes Of Crime Officer) The single use big plastic white coveralls that zip up the front and have tight elastic hoods. Then add a surgical single use blue elastic hat…think big “shower cap looking things.” Clean rubber boots that people in the UK call Wellingtons and a special place/locker to leave them at work as well as where to put them one. Then when someone has them on they step into very large containers filled with food safe disinfectant as you step into a clean area. Also single use gloves like at Subway Sandwiches but much thicker over there own gloves if they want for work. Or pants tucked into sanitizing liquid blue hats, aprons cleaned and sanitized with bleach on site and proper gloves also cleaned/sanitized on site. Again ice isn’t cooked before eating and even though people don’t walk around in plastic bubbles but God only knows what people are getting on them on their way to work to only track into work or even from home. So we have to be prepared for the worst and the worst is pretty gross!!.. 🤢 Otherwise it really is just a couple of easy steps. They could use fabric coveralls washed and sanitized with bleach at work worn over their clothes along with the rest of the steps. I’m sure there are some more ideas at your local OSHA and FDA offices that will help to put together the safest food consumption clothing regulations especially since making a restaurant, bar or wedding all sick from food poisoning from the ice is a sure way to kill off a great business that someone else might love to take. Someone else has already mentioned contaminated ice is the most common cause for food poisoning. So it seems ice companies need to up their game. And as most ice companies use non filtered tap water to make their ice…from what I’ve read no wonder they are the dirtiest secret in going out to eat… 🤢🤢But that may be beginning to change as consumers are getting more and more informed everyday. On a serious note. NY tap water is pretty good. I visited my cousins in Jersey and remember drinking the tap. There was like a mystery flavor lol. I kept drinking until I was about to burst lol. And they thought I was weird. Not because I drunk multiple cups trying to figure out the weird taste. But because to them it didn’t taste like nothing. NYC water is pretty good. When you try water in NJ and Pa. You can taste the clear difference. But water from Las Vegas will make you pray for Nj and Pa water lol. They have rocks, sand and all kinds of weird stuff in it. Locals was looking at me like I’m a crazy person. Because I filled my cup with water from a soda machine. The locals said to only drink bottled water. And to be careful when showering. The more you travel the country. The more appropriate reliable good water.

They make all kinds of test kits. I don't expect that people buying premium tap water ice want chemicals in their drinks though. People can have adverse reactions to testing reagents and they're not food-safe. Common reagents for testing for GHB and analogs are cobalt-nitrate (Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Repeated or prolonged inhalation may cause asthma. Ingestion may cause effects on the bone marrow, heart and thyroid. This substance is possibly carcinogenic to humans. Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxicity to human reproduction or development.) and Marquis/Mandelin (formaldehyde/concentrated sulfuric acid). California passed a bill where the tests are available by request at bars, so there is that.

Then why not re introduce Sea Otters from Seward and they will bring back the kelp forests that were definitely decimated by the sea urchins. Since ice tends to be quite cold there is also not a problem with bacteria growth from e.g. clothing (assuming they do not use the clothing exclusively in the freezer room (which they probably are)). Also they are putting flowers in the ice cube, what do you expect happens to them beforehand, I doubt that they are disinfected btw. the same holds true for basically any food you consume it is from nature there will be bacteria on it even pathogens food is never sterile, but that is not a problem. I understand that hair in your ice/ food might be annoying but it is definitely not a hygienic problem. Also I doubt that that happens often since they run a luxury ice cube business and I am quite sure that hair in your product is bad for business.

Right?! 🍽 Michelin-starred chefs don’t just go to the local grocery store for their ingredients-they’re out there traveling the globe like culinary treasure hunters! I can already imagine them in a sushi bar in Japan, negotiating for the freshest tuna, or in Italy, picking the perfect basil leaf like it’s some kind of food fairy tale. 😂🍣
