Where Preppers Get It Wrong + Is Prepping Biblical

Over the years, I have become more and more preparedness-minded and have, at times, wondered if the concept is Biblical. The world will never be a stable place, and I think that we should all be prepared to some extent. What are the best things to store up and where do most preppers get it wrong?

Good one and generally agree with you're points. But also, as a Christian there's also guidance from Holy Spirit to each individual - so there can be variance between different Christians. One item to store up is... "The Word of God" :)

Amen. I can comfirm that the Holy Spirit has brought the same Bible stories to mind as you mentioned. We should be prepared to be self sufficient but not make it our life mission to prepare for some disaster. In everything you do do it all to the glory of God. And let the peace of God rule in your heart and guide your decisions.

Yes, there is a balanced truth here. I often think of the story of Joseph, how that God used him not only to save Egypt, Israel, and surrounding countries. Preserving the lineage of Christ to come, being the primary reason, but also saving the lives of those in that day as well. Also, let us never do anything from the foundation of fear. When you think about it, it is God that provides all the preps and things that we have. All the food, water, energy, supplies, good health, all of it. All the good things that we have, it's all provided by Him. So if He takes care of us now He will take care of us then. So prep in faith in the God that has provided, and will. Good Bless you all!

As we started our homestead journey 3 years ago. We have some success and some struggles. The most important thing to have as a prepper is knowledge. Know how to do things around the homestead is the key. Your biblical view is right on. Thank you and God bless.

Salvation - nothing more valuable. Otherwise - community is essential to surviving anything. We can't do this on our own. Thankfully we have the church, aka body of believers who follow Christ.

A lot of people don’t think about seasonings and such when prepping. I think things like sugar, salt, pepper and other spices are excellent items to store extra of for bartering.

I've pushed the seasoning thing for years to others...if you eat the same thing over and over for long periods of time you will actaully stop eating it...not hard to hit a dollar store and stock up on dry spices of all kinds just to change up flavors...

Nothing to do with religion or faith, I prep for the same reason I buy insurance or wear a seatbelt. Of course food and shelter is most important but gold and silver has held value throughout all of human history for a reason.

The Bible is awesome on prepping. It started before Joseph. Noah was the best prepper. God told him there was going to be an apocalypse and if he built the big boat, God would help out by filling it up for a long journey while he and his family (well prepped) would be tucked away... in safety. Some of us see the signs of the season of danger we might be in... and a WISE man prepares. Some Christian's have had dreams and visions of shortages and disaster... as in the day of Noah... So by all means build your big boat (or perverbial bunker) and fill it up if you can afford too. I believe God wants us to have wisdom.

I'm not sure about the loading up on gold. If something happens and the dollar is no longer viable with no alternative the value of gold will skyrocket. But how are you going to use it, will people be shaving their coins down? Like you said in those situations most are going to want something usable. I did see on the Fit Farmer that they freeze dry stew and other prepared meals they make and don't need to freeze the pouches. I haven't gotten brave enough to try that, but probably should. I have a lot of frozen beef and it would be terrible to have that go to waste if disaster occurred. Also have plenty of beans and rice since those easily store a long time. And we should prepare the best we can, without going into panic mania mode. It would be irresponsible to us or those with us to be the grasshopper.

God wants you to be aware of the world around you and of how to protect yourself and your family. And the world around you right now should be telling you that there's every reason to prepare and be self-sufficient, and no reason not to.

Amen brother 🙏 I agree with helping those in need , yet there are two more that will steal it all !!!!! With God as our family's salvation , we will still need some types of defense !!!!! Praying that we won't have to use them 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. God first , others second and self last 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I think the best prep you can do in life is build good relationships with friends and neighbours. Do them good turns whenever you can, don't expect anything in return. When your time of need comes some will remember your kindness and help you out.

I would say knowledge (of how to grow food and preserve it), seeds, and land to grow the food on are three of the top priorities when it comes to sustaining myself and my family during an economic downturn.

I'm not sure what I believe anymore if I'm honest however The Bible says that we should provide for our relatives and especially our immediate family in Timothy 5:8 (not word for word). Also weren't Adam and Eve told to look after the earth? I dont think that meant sitting on their butts waiting for food to appear from heaven when there is fertile soil, sun and water and their bodies to use to work and grow that food. The bible is full of stories of hard work the only story I can think of where food literally came from heaven was manna from heaven to the Israelites in the desert. I don't think we can just say God will provide even if you believe, you only have to turn on the news to see children dying from famine and look throughout history to know that isn't true. A lot of people in America now are there because their ancestors came from Ireland during the Potato famine. Those people would have believed in God yet its estimated 1 million died and 1 million emigrated which was 1/4 of Ireland's population. Famine happens all the time and the only way to provide for your family is to store up food and I'd also say buy or save next years heirloom seeds each year would be an excellent idea.

Hmmm. Interesting I guess. As a Pagan, I had not considered that prepping as long as one wasn't paranoid or mean about it that the Gods would not approve.

Excellent points here brother. Especially agree with you on the fear-based preparation mindset. I have family who gets caught up in that frenzy where they want to be "self-sufficient" (gold and powdered meals) and I continually remind them of the same thing you said, that their trust must be in God first. Thinking that they alone can control and and take care of all their needs in any situation just doesn't track with the Christian lifestyle, in my opinion.

This seems to be a complicated reasoning for indolence. God charges a man to be the protector and provider, and being self-sufficient is the best way of doing that. Of course there are things that are out of your hands, but if you don't do everything you can within reason, that's a failure.
