In the comics his name is even more meaningful. In the comics, the patients in the weapon X program started a Deadpool amongst themselves to pass the time and give themselves hope that maybe some of them will make it to the otherside and get to live. Deadpool took the name in honor of them.

It was especially clear that the movie had a low budget compared to most superhero films at the time, and this movie was tied to the X-Men Franchise, which was starting to get its traction back after the disasters that were ‘X3’ and ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’.

This is why they gave "Ryan Reynolds with the skin over his mouth" at Wolverine: Origins, because they thought normies don't want a quippy character in the movies. (I won't share my opinion on what I'll besharing for now because I'll be digressing) After that happened (pun not intended), Ryan and whoever directed Deadpool 1 is pushing Deadpool 1 REALLY hard to the point that "someone" leaked their pilot movie that was intended for the higher ups to convince them that normies WOULD like a Deadpool movie; and even then, the budget, as much as I hate to admit, is kind of on the low side, which Deadpool pointed out especially on the amount of actual XMen casts are present in the movie. As much as we'd like to poop on Marvel Studios for the less-than-mid Phase 4 shows and movies, at the very least, they gave the D&W movie a very serviceable budget to the point that they can actually put in - Wait, this is spoiler-y opinion. What I like about the first Deadpool is how grimy this one looks compared to it’s sequels, due to the lower budget that they were forced to work with. It really gives you a sense that Wade is operating at the bottom of the superhero totem pole (staying in some shitty looking apartment, fighting criminals in warehouses and run down parts of town) and only had 2 “big CGI fights” as well. The second and third one fully embraced the pretty and pristine Superhero aesthetic, which is great of course but the rougher look plus smaller scale of the 2016 movie is so nostalgic to me.
