Directed by Steven Tsuchida
"Where's the Bathroom"
WHERE’S THE BATHROOM! WHERE’S THE BATHROOM!
I NEED TO USE THE BATHROOM
TELL ME THAT YOU HAVE A BATHROOM
IN THIS HOVEL YOU CALL HOME.
I DON’T KNOW WHICH WAS BUMPIER
THE PLANE RIDE OR THE TAXI
ALL THESE FREEWAYS ARE A NIGHTMARE
WHERE’S MY PURSE, I NEED MY COMB.
BY THE WAY, YOU’RE LOOKING HEALTHY
AND BY HEALTHY I MEAN CHUNKY
I DON’T MEAN THAT AS AN INSULT
I’M JUST STATING IT AS FACT
I SEE YOUR ECZEMA IS BACK.
ARE YOU USING THE LOTION THAT I SENT YOU?
IF YOU’RE NOT GONNA USE IT
I’LL RETURN IT TO THE STORE.
GOD, I GIVE YOU EVERYTHING
AND STILL YOU JUST WANT MORE MORE MORE
MORE MORE.
WHERE’S THE BATHROOM, WHERE’S THE BATHROOM
YOU HAVEN’T TOLD ME WHERE YOUR BATHROOM IS!
MOM, IT’S UPSTAIRS
OK, FINE, I NEED THE WALK.
WELL, YOUR HOUSE IS OY YOY YOY CHARMING
THOUGH SOME FLORALS WOULDN’T KILL YOU
DO YOU EVER GET A MAID HERE?
IT’S SO NICE TO SIT AND TALK.
SINCE WHEN DO YOU HAVE
A VENDETTA AGAINST VASES?
AND WHEN DID YOU STOP WEARING MAKEUP?
ARE YOU SURE THAT YOU’RE NOT GAY?
I’D STILL LOVE YOU IF YOU WERE GAY
IT WOULD EXPLAIN THIS VASE VENDETTA
PLEASE JUST TELL ME IF YOU’RE GAY.
AGAIN, I’M NOT GAY
DON’T INTERRUPT ME, YOU’RE ALWAYS WITH THE TALKING
I JUST GOT OFF A PLANE, GIVE ME A MOMENT TO CATCH MY BREATH
IT’S THE LEAST YOU CAN DO
SINCE YOU LIVED INSIDE ME FOR NINE MONTHS
AND YOU STILL HAVEN’T TOLD ME
WHERE THE HELL YOUR STUPID BATHROOM IS!!!!
I SAID IT’S UPSTAIRS
OH RIGHT, THANK YOU
YOU CALL THAT A BATHROOM
THAT’S WHAT PASSES FOR A BATHROOM?
THERE WERE NO BOWLS OF ROCKS OR ANY DECORATIVE SOAPS--
YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE A BATH MAT
WHO DOESN’T HAVE A BATH MAT?
IF YOU NEED A BATH MAT I CAN-- OH, DID YOU HEAR -
A BISHOP IN WISCONSIN SAID SOMETHING ANTI-SEMITIC
SO THE TEMPLE HAS DECIDED TO BOYCOTT CHEDDAR CHEESE--
EVERYONE ASKS HOW YOU’RE DOING
“HOW IS LITTLE BECKY?” “IS SHE STILL A BIG SHOT LAWYER?”
AND TO THAT I JUST SAY “PLEASE.”
YOU WON’T GET A HUSBAND THIS WAY--
AT LEAST YOU HAVE YOUR CAREER
OH WAIT, YOU THREW OUT YOUR CAREER
TO CHASE THIS CALIFORNIA DREAM
I WASTED ALL THAT DOUGH ON HARVARD AND YALE
FOR YOU TO BE LIVING IN A DUMPIN NOWHERE, USA--
GETTING FATTER BY THE MINUTE ON THIS GREASY GOYISH FOOD
JUST PUT MY LUGGAGE IN MY ROOM
COULD I GET A GLASS OF WATER, I’LL BE BACK IN A MOMENT
I NEED TO USE THE BATHROOM AGAIN!

I can relate to this song, my mother was very similar. To the point i laughed of it only because i don't have her in my life anymore. Can you call something "love" when you never respect and never listen? I think it's more like an egoistic phantasy about being so great, not love

Is that a normal thing to say? You know that Jewish people still face antisemitism and violence. What's the point of dismissing it by bringing up a nation that far from all Jewish people support? You are being edgy for its own sake, bringing Palestinian suffering into an unrelated conversation.
@leeh4669
@leeh4669 Жыл бұрын
@morbidsearch it’s anti-semetic to assume all Jewish people support Israel and actively harms the possibility for Jewish-Palestinian solidarity 🙄 it’s people like you who align the state of Israel with the millions of Jewish people living in other countries that provoke anti-semetic aggression against anti-Israel Jewish people minding their own business and make them believe that trying to change this narrative is a waste of time. i’m not even Jewish but a Palestinian activist literally spoke out against people like you months ago, and i remember her passionate speech. you’re bringing your own movement down…
@DS-ji2jm
@DS-ji2jm Жыл бұрын
People like you are obsessed with hating Israel, even though you don’t know even one actual fact about it and what you do know is learned from a propagandized instagram post. This is the only way you’ll be accepted in the circles you are in. You then feel the need to bring it into everything having to do with anything related to Jewishness. It’s sick and it’s definitely is from a hatred of Jews.

Amazing job fitting in very typical and often unnoticed abuse many parents throw at their kids, especially in mother daughter relationships. 1.) Invasion of personal space, especially looking down her shirt. 2.) Infantilizing at the same time expecting adult behavior, but unwilling to be one themselves "Where's the bathroom, waaah, also you should make more money and be an adult! Your bathroom didn't have fancy soap, waaaah!". 3.) Blame of existence IE You owe me because I made you. 4.) Zillions of subtle and no less painful emotional/mental jabs at inadequacy, usefullness and character. IE fat, poor, emotionally damaged (Oh, I wonder why?!). 5.) The declaration that anything that any outsider can construe as un-okay behavior is fine, because "mother knows best/loves her child" 6.) A almost brief moment of realization coupled immediately by defense of actions that otherwise would never be okay to anyone else because "love." 7.) The idea that intent matters more than action, even when the actions hurt, if the intent was good, everything is forgiven FOR THEM, but not for you. 8.) Nothing but complaints and flaming. Feigned sympathy and a reaction of "You think you had it hard?!" Bravo. It's also telling when people see this and go "ha that's so my mother". No, that's abuse. It's just straight up abuse from the first line to the last, because everything out of her mouth is about how shit her child is, how much she owes her and how everything is her fault, even up to making the child think all these things with out the parent explicitly saying so. You don't owe your parents/guardians etc a damn thing. You being born into the circumstances and people who happen to raise you is not a choice. It's not a two way street relationship because of this. People choose to have kids, you have no opinion in the matter. The worst thing a parent can do is put this kind if "you owe me for having you" nonsense. You deserve to be here just like anyone else and if a parent, friend, spouse or anyone makes you feel otherwise or to question self-.worth, kick them to the curb. And if you think that about yourself, please seek therapy and get help. No one should suffer alone and everyone deserves to heal, especially from wounds they had no choice in having. Fantastic job from both actresses. That absolutely feels like a real dysfunctional not okay mother daughter relationship. This time in Jewish flavor!

If you look at it from a later point in the series, Momma Naomi sees Rebecca as her life gone right, before she had Rebecca. She was a high paid prestigious lawyer in New York, Naomi's dream. What Naomi never considered is that she could train to be a lawyer instead and live her dream herself instead of piling it on Rebecca to live through

My mom is not as critical as this, but when shew comes to visit it does feel like a whirlwind, especially those first 10 minutes, so this hits the nail for me. The delivery from Tovah was amazing, and it is probably the song I have gone back to the most just cause it is such a fun performance and very recognizable.

Nice to see that she has a lot of self-reflection on not wanting to be what her mother was like :) Unfortunately this is a common stereotype and reality of a person to deal with for a lot of people and that's really sad, because it's extremely abusive from the gas-lighting, emotional/mental jabs and all kinds of classic abuse tactics, in a fast paced anxiety fueled song. And the reason it perpetuates is because people don't see this as abuse, they see it as a caring if not stern nagging mother who only wants the best for her kid. Even if that's true, which I don't doubt that it is, this is not an okay way to treat any human being, especially not your kid. Intent matters, but it never defends bad action. Someone can love someone and abuse them, that's what makes abuse so difficult to see and deal with.
