Covers all the bases. Even though I've known the harmonic minor scale for decades, I've never thought of it as a major V in a minor key progression. This opens up the whole shebang.

Finally. Someone explains where and why this scale comes from and when used properly. Great explanation. Thank you so much.

Thanks, Brian. I have watched a dozen other people go through this harmonic minor theory. They make it soooooo complicated. You are ALWAYS able to simplify things. You should be- if you're not already- one of the most successful guitar teachers on the internet. Much obliged.

Hey Brian, I'm self taught and have been for quite a few years and my weak point is theory and I swear I have seen so many other guitarists teach on youtube but nobody comes close to how well you're able to communicate in such an easy and clear way, what I didn't get before I'm understanding for the first time.

Cool didn't know that the raised 7th made the 5 chord a major, TY I like the Harmonic Minor has a lot more personality then natural.

Great video again Brian. Its worth noting that G sharp is emphasised in A harmonic minor. Chords with the added G sharp like C augumented can be used. Its a great sound but I think its hard to write vocal melodies over fom my experience.
@zombieguitar Жыл бұрын
I'm not much of a singer myself, but I also have trouble writing lead lines over augmented chords. So I feel your pain man!! 😁

Brian, you are an excellent teacher. You do not speak too fast. You do not have a lot a excess verbiage. I recall there are 3 minor scales. You covered the natural and harmonic minor. What about the melodic minor? What confuses me is it is played one way ascending and a different note descending. Can you discuss that, and when to use it? Today’s lesson was great because you told us when to use it.
@heidiedelman68405 жыл бұрын
And that is how Harmonic Scale is born, I love it. Great info, thanks! Do you have a video for Melodic Minor?
@zombieguitar5 жыл бұрын
Not yet, but I will shortly
@mo8419 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for clarifying this great info as always! I got one question tho, could I also use this scale over any minor chord instead of natural minor if I wanted to spice things up?
@zombieguitar Жыл бұрын
Give it a try, and see if you like the sound. I love using harmonic minor as much as possible 😁
@davidblanc4583 жыл бұрын
I discovered today that you can play the a minor harmonic scale over g7, his major cousin, for a jazzy sound, and then the g major scale over c major
@HarryBarry973 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you lesson. Huge help. You are a very talanted teacher. One question. When you play trough chord changes you will play E harmonic minor scale over Emin and Emaj right?
@zombieguitar3 жыл бұрын
No...A Harmonic minor. You are looking for the major "V chord" in the key of A minor. That is when you make the switch from using the A natural minor to the A harmonic minor...just over that one single chord. Of course, you can still use the A harmonic minor scale over other chords in the progression as well, but the purpose of this lesson is to show that it works especially nicely over the E major chord in that key!
@casualbird25204 жыл бұрын
So would the E to G# change go from a stable note to an active note or its resolution unchanged?
@robertbower74616 жыл бұрын
Learning the function of melodic minor was sooo rewarding thank you as one of my fav songs sweet child o mine uses it to great effect. Maybe slash IS human ?! No slash is still god lol Is it also known as a secondary Dom ?
