The movie turns 20 today! Still can’t believe this was 1 year after Natalie did Phantom Menace And I learned a while back this was actually based on a book/true story of a woman giving birth in a retailer

Bit of strange movie.. doesn't quite have a point to it just seems to be an assortment of events and characters, which is fine for a lighthearted / easy watching film but there is some dark scenes in it - incase anyone was thinking this was one of those 'happy go lucky' movies, just be pre-warned it isn't *lol*. Great choice of casting for the actors, some fantastic famous faces and acting in it. Not my typically first pick of movie to watch but a tad disappointed with the ending. Still gets 9/10 though.

Novalee Nation may have been a kind, sweet, patient, and beautiful girl but she wasn't very smart. Smart girls don't end up pregnant at 16, and abandoned, and living in a Walmart. Her so-called boyfriend is partially to blame for her situation but Novalee is also to blame. This is very unfortunate because a lot of young women put themselves in situations like this. Novalee is very fortunate though. If not for the kindness of strangers, she would still be homeless.

If this isn't the most judge-y response... She was a young girl. Her mom was a damn sociopath. She had no real family. She probably was told by him at some point before she got pregnant that he loved her. A vulnerable girl looking for love in the wrong places, could end up in that situation.

Man, I remember when this movie used to play on the lifetime channel all the time. I'd always watch it. Brings back good memories of relaxing at home in summer/fall, wrapped up in a blanket, and binge watching romcoms

That Walmart is no longer a Walmart. The building is basically the same on the exterior, but remodeled on the inside and it’s now the municipal court in Lockhart, Tx. I think about it every time I have to go pay a speeding ticket or appear in court. LMAOOO

I read this book when I was in highschool. A few years later, I saw this movie. I was amazed that they somehow stick to the plot as in the book, I always want to know who will be picture take the role as the ever loving Jonathan (am I right?). Anyways, the book is good :)

I read the book a long time ago. You're right, they did keep to the book for the most part. But one major difference is in the book Forney was a much younger boy than Novelee and they were friends. In the movie, they were love interests. Personally, I liked that they made him a love interest instead.

This movie was terrible. In reality, Portman's character would've been arrested for trespassing, breaking and entering, theft, and soliciting. Also no store is abandoned during the night. There is ALWAYS an overnight crew.
