Where the Heart Is - Series 2 titles (1998)

Here's the titles for the second series of Where the Heart Is, first broadcast April-July 1998. The show has gone widescreen, surely one of the earliest to do so seeing as this series was broadcast six months before digital TV actually launched, so nobody would have been able to see it in its true aspect ratio.
The cast listed in the titles remains the same as last series, simply with updated photos. The background footage is newly shot but are mostly the same locations as the series 1 titles. The big change here (if any) is the font - from the rather plain sans serif font in series 1 to this slightly ugly font that would be used for the rest of the show's life.

This tune has got me all emotional, it reminds me so much of my younger days when i was was innocent young free and single and on a Sunday evening waiting for my roast cooked by my mum sitting at the table with my dad and sister! x

The font is FrizQuadrata. A lot of programmes made by the BBC and ITV were filmed and edited/produced in 16:9 from mid 1997 onwards, in preparation for digital TV. A lot of them just disregarded the space outside of the 4:3 safe areas and would feature 4:3 title sequences and 16:9 source material. Even with the launch of digital TV only a handful of homes had widescreen TVs, and only 4 regions on ITV could broadcast in 16:9.

It was certainly a forward-thinking exercise in future proofing, since they're still repeated to this day on ITV3.
