Lizzie has always had a complicated relationship with the idea of home. Although born in Australia, she grew up in rural Papua New Guinea as the daughter of Christian missionaries, and the transition back to life in Australia at age 11 was incredibly difficult.
She moved a lot in her first few years in New South Wales and she moved out at 19 to study in Queensland. There she was met with the struggle of finding and retaining accommodation. As an Indigenous Australian she was only one of the more than 26,000 Indigenous people who are homeless on any given night.
Lizzie's story shows that there is often very little that separates us from the hundreds of thousands of Australians who are without a home each day.
