I use to live up there. I am very familiar with the Echo Trail. I have driven it so many times. Yet, every time we’d find something new. So many cool forest roads and trails off of it. I cannot recommend people visiting it enough and just really taking their time to explore that area. Funny story about that lake at 2:55. That’s Ed Shave Lake. My buddy and I got out to that lake during early ice season and there was about 5-6 inches of ice on the lake. We realized we forgot the auger at his house and we didn’t have time to go back and get it before nightfall. But we had an axe. So we chopped like 5 holes in the ice. After all of that, we didn’t catch a single fish.

I do the Echo Trail and side roads in my minivan. You don't need 4WD

Can confirm. The boys and I used to do this with my Chevy Malibu during college

I’ve seen a Prius with two 15’ canoes on top of it on a forest road off one of the other main trails up there. You only need 4x4 to get way way back in there.

@@scottishd0g87 I can tell you a trail that just took my Jeep out last weekend (blown air bags in the rear suspension) lol …Stone/Big Lake Trail in the Superior National Forest up near Skibo Lookout! It about a 2 mile road to Big Lake where there’s a campsite but the road is the most serious road I’ve come across yet! Made it 3/4 of they way down before the air suspension went out and had to crawl back out. Lots of mud/water and boulders…had my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk raised up to its highest height with 33’s on and was clearing ok but slow going lol

@@scottishd0g87 also no, not the trail to a lookout tower…just a unmaintained forest road that gets pretty serious in a few spots and deep water depending on the time of year.

Superior national forest is underrated, it is in North East Minnesota so it is out of the way and most of it visitors are people that live in the state.
