G'day everyone! In this video we have a great session into the night, and I share the places where we fish for those EXTRA-LARGE WHITING that we love to target.
We're fishing in South East Queensland. The Gold Coast, Tweed, Brisbane, and the Sunshine Coast are all worth a shot in this area, however this technique can be used all the way down through New South Wales.
Some of the more popular rivers to catch big whiting are Tweed, Nerang, Coomera, Maroochy, and Noosa.
We also talk through what gear and tackle we use, as well as plenty of other tips on how to catch whiting. Watch on to see us getting into a few nice size whiting and throwing a bit of banter around too!

I had my pen ready for some GPS coordinates Will 😉 Good fishing boys and a nice vid. I had forgotten about the bait down the back of the boat. Thanks.

Hahaha we’ll have to go and find some new spots together one day so we both have the GPS marks 😉👍 Yes, the bait straight down over the back catches more than you’d think! It’s amazing to think they’re swimming around just a few metres away from the transom 😂 Thanks for the comment Terry, I always appreciate your support mate. Tight lines and we’ll catch up soon.

Hey dude, awesome content as per usual... Got a quick question for you. What are your thoughts on using Mustad Demon circle hooks (light gauge) specifically in sz 1/0?? I understand why you guys use the Mustad Bloodworm hooks, ive just personally moved away from them because I find that the barbs file away too quickly, and the shanks bend if the fish is undersize and has swallowed the hook. Just my thoughts, but would be curious as to what you guys think. Tight lines mate

Hi mate. Thanks so much for the comment and kind words, I appreciate it! To be honest I haven’t ever tried using circle hooks for whiting but it would definitely be an interesting experiment. I’d love to try it one day, but I feel that it would be difficult to put bait on in a way that the fish won’t just pick it straight off. Maybe threading the bait (worms or yabbies) up the line and leaving the circle hook exposed would work? We sometimes bend the shank on the Mustad Bloodworm hooks at times too, however they’re pretty good for us most of the time and we just don’t want to change from something that works for us 😅 The way that whiting bite where they pick the bait up, swallow it, then go to swim away, would be perfect for circle hooks to lodge in the corner of their mouth you’d think. I have seen people use them for King George whiting down south, so it would definitely be worth a try I reckon. I’ve had friends try it and tell me that it wasn’t very successful, but you might find something that works for you. I’ll even try it in a video one day!! Thanks again for the comment and I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos👍🎣

Nice mate, those are some cracking whiting! Well done 😁 They love the bloodworms but we’ve found that freshly pumped yabbies work just as well 👌

This area you are at in this video, is there any land access to this at all? do you find blood worms or yabbies best bait/ or run in/out tide?
@willkitching
@willkitching 7 ай бұрын
Hey mate! There isn’t any land access to this particular spot sadly, however you could definitely give Budd’s Beach a go which is just downstream. If you look on google earth you can see that there is a shallow sand bank here, and people catch whiting here land based. The Nerang River fishes best at night from our experience. People do get them during the day, but we always do A LOT better at night time. A lot of people swear by bloodworms, but we only ever use yabbies and they work absolutely fine. We figure they are a lot cheaper and easier to get than bloodworms. If you aren’t having any results on yabbies at Budd’s Beach you could always give bloodworms a try just to see if it makes a difference. You can catch fish on both tides, however in the past we’ve had our best results on run out tide. We fish fairly late into the night sometimes as the run out tide often starts later at night. The current can really run hard at times so use a ball sinker just big enough that keeps your bait on the bottom. Another place you could try is James Overell park. I’ve heard of people catching them here before, but I am not completely sure. Looking at google earth, it looks like there is a bit of a shallow sand bank that runs out from the shore. I really hope these tips help mate and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you catch a few. Tight lines and good luck 👍🎣

A great night on the water Will. Nice to see the old Alveys produce the goods again. I know exactly what you mean about a spin rod going over the back of the boat with a good bite! Did you fish there recently? If so, it’s good to know they were biting with all the fresh in the river.

Thanks heaps mate I really appreciate it! 😁 Yes we love using the Alveys, it sounds like you had some bad luck with a spin setup flying over the back of the boat! 😬😂 This video was before all this rain, I dare say they’re all washed down in the Broadwater at the moment mate. Once it cleans up a bit it should be good though! Hope you’re getting out and chasing some this summer 👍🎣

I'm very familiar with the spot you fished, I have caught many whiting there. They seem to come in waves there if your patient. See many people leave there and miss out on the fish. Great video.

Hey MrCods, you’re spot on there mate! You definitely have to be patient in these spots. Sometimes you’ll go an hour or more without a bite, or you’ll only pick up a couple at a time, but then they can come on the bite out of nowhere! Thanks for the support as always and I hope you’ve been getting out for a fish 🎣👍

I think your over exaggerating abit with the whole if it was a spin rod it would of went flying...the rod tip probably would of bent lol... luckily the half kg Alvey had the rig bolted down tight for those massive whiting...ive had jacks hit on full drag lock that lifted the butt of the rod off the boat floor....luckily you had your drag set i reckon that 6lb would of snapped like cotton string before the rod went anywhere

Great clip once again mate, question! Do you burley when your sitting there for long periods of time??
@willkitching
@willkitching 8 ай бұрын
Thanks mate I appreciate it! We don’t berley as I think it would just wash down the river too quickly with the tide, however I’ve thought about trying it up on the shallow sand flats while anchored! They love stirred up sand
