Yay this is amazing!! I used to go to a pottery class & my dad still had the slipper I made as a planter for his garden yeaaaaars ago! I'm going to go along to a new place that's just opened near me to start up again! I've got the bug! 🌵🌵🌵

Love your videos i came across searching for some info for my little jungle lol. I am thinking of trying my own chanel i started collecting this year and it has evolved into its own little room durring the winter here i have limited sun so i run full spectrum leds and sunbulbs. Such a beautiful collection 😊 I used to study ceramics and would really love to get into making again! Just one question - how do you decide what plants to depot out of the plastic containers and into the ceramics container? I'm always terrified to do it in case I over water! I have done to a few succulents though with broken ceramics I picked up in Stoke a few years back and works well for them but I'm terrified to do it to bigger plants 🌵🌿🌷

Putting gravel at the base of a non-draining pot really makes no difference. I suppose the idea is that the water can pool down there away from the potting mix, but in practice it doesn't really work that way. First of all, if the pot is opaque you don't actually have any way of knowing how much water is in the bottom of the pot, regardless of gravel. Secondly, what the gravel does is it raises the perched water table in the pot, so basically you've just decreased the amount of available potting mix for your plant and the plant is just as damp as otherwise. You should never put gravel in the bottom of a pot, not even a draining one, it's really just a widely circulated myth that it helps drainage. Basically, the layer of gravel just acts to raise the base of the soil up so you've just done nothing to it but decrease the available potting mix for the plant and bring the saturation table closer to the roots. The only good way to plant into a non-draining pot is to use it as a dress pot only. Pot your plant into a plastic pot that matches the diameter of your dress pot and slip that into the non-draining pot, and when the plant needs water simply lift it out of the pot to water and drain it. If this sounds too fiddly you should really just avoid non-draining pots entirely. I honestly have no idea why they still make these stupid things because they're basically useless.
