When I use a rifle I go for neck, shot 13 deer with my 308 and all 13 of them dropped, didn’t even hear the shot.

I would like to see the inside of that deer, the front shoulder, the tenderloin. As long as there’s no wasted meat I would say this is an excellent shot placement and something I may adopt.

If the crosshairs show where the hunter was actually aiming, this was not the best shot placement. Too high. A more high probability shot - follow the the back of the front leg up into the body cavity about 4”-5”. That is a heart or (if slightly off) a double lung shot.

a spine shot on the back will always be the quickest way to dispatch an animal but if you aim for the neck you can disconnect the main artery at the same time and you wont wreck the back straps. you will wreck neck meat but you'll save the loins.
