A couple of years ago, I googled...What's the best murder mystery novel ? Almost all m.m. authors said ,"The murder of Roger Ackroyd ". I got the book from the library, and when I read it ,all in one sitting because I couldn't put it down, it blew my mind! It was my first A.C. novel I ever read? I was hooked on Poirot, and read all the novels. A

"Swedish Chef Style" LOVE IT!!! Hilarious. Thank you for doing this, I only recently found your channel but this is so perfectly timed. I have a project I am toying with for next year and this information is exactly the kind of guidance I can use. Interesting that you talked about Murder on the Orient, that is the only AC book I have read and I found it infuriating... and it was because of the very fact you referenced, but I want to give her another chance - because I have within the last 2 years began enjoying the TV adaptions of her books. The Crooked House recent adaption , I enjoyed very much. Again thank you!

Wow I'm late to the party but I looooove Agatha Christie!! Throughout this year my sister and I have essentially gone through all the Poirot and Marple adaptations and they've all been great. My first Agatha Christie novel was The Seven Dials Mystery, and either it's the nostalgia or the fact that it was the first time I was taken for a ride by the Agatha Christie rollercoaster, but it remains to be my favourite Christie book! Great video!

So far I have only had the time to read The Mysterious Affair at Styles, but I also decided to read And Then There Were None and really I have loved all of them!!! I have a copy of The Murder on the Links and I'm pretty pumped to finish up the semester so I can have more free time to read more Christie!

And then there were none was the first Christie I ever read. Currently reading Poirot and watching the television series. I struggled a bit with the first few books but think I am coming around. Will be rereading the first 3 books after learning that the guy from the series did movie adaptations for every poirot book. Plus my kids are enjoying Poirot and especially his use your little gray cells catch phrase.

At last! After two years of watching your channel, you have FINALLY done a Swedish chef impersonation - 03:55. I shall put that on a loop and have it playing in the background over Christmas. Have you read Hercule Poirot and the Greenshore Folly? It was published in 2014 after lying in a vault for 60 years, and is the original novella on which Dead Man's Folly was based. As you very much like Christie novellas, you should enjoy this. It would be interesting to hear your opinions on it. And yes,as has already been asked - please do more Christie standalone reviews. :)

Ooh, I want to add a caveat to the idea of starting with Murder on the Orient Express. If you think there is a possibility you would read another Poirot story, I wouldn’t start with that one. It is an unusual Poirot story, one in which Poirot’s belief system is challenged in a way I don’t think it ever really is with any of his other cases. Because of that, I feel like Murder on the Orient Express would be more powerful if you were familiar with Poirot’s character before you read it, so I would recommend getting some context for it by reading other Poirots first. Or at least watch some episodes of Agatha Christie’s Poirot (with David Suchet) first.

Don't forget that Agatha Christie also wrote plays. I would recommend attending a performance of "The Mousetrap" to anyone, whether they are already Agatha Christie fans or are trying her out for the first time. (Seeing a production of "The Mousetrap" was my first introduction to Agatha Christie.) The stage version of "And Then There Were None" is also excellent an excellent way to experience that story (and even people who have already read the book may be in for a surprise or two).

I started with And Then There Were None and then I got hooked. Started learning about Hercule Poirot and since I like Edgar Allan Poe and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle it's a given that Poirot would be my next beloved sleuth. I read his series in order because I don't want to miss out in any of his stories. Though my favorite so far is Cards on the Table. Also I really like Mr. Quin stories and anything with Bundle and Ariadne Oliver in it. I don't know about Miss Marple. I didn't like Miss Marple at first because I find it hard to believe that such a character would last 15 minutes in a case if she's just an old nosy spinster who merely understand human nature based on analogies. Though it's true that her stories were interesting and written well. And while Poirot is also unbelievable, at least he was once a part of the Belgian police force so that what he lacks in his physique, he more than made up with his experience.

Agree with death on the Nile - excellent Poirot - and Roger Ackroyd - just a good all-rounder - but I would never recommend cards on the table as much as I love it. I really think the detailed references to bridge would put off a great many people. Which would be a shame. And I would not recommend and then there were none as a first choice since I think the second book would be destined to be a disappointment. And that’s always the kiss of death. Just my own opinion. I do think the short story idea is a good one too as it gives you a nice sampling which is a good way to hook the fish! Thanks for a great video 💕💕

In my opinion i would say to beginner readers of her books like me is to start with Agatha’s Debut novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles l say this because I feel this is a great starting point to get into her books and sort of get a feel of her writing style once you have finished this but I do say if u read her debut novel and don’t like it , it doesn’t mean u don’t like her writing style its’s just that you din’t like this novel but I’m sure u’ll find u’ll like many of her other novels depending on which novels u read after her debut novel , u can pick & choose what reading order u wanna follow of her books so here goes to me reading a new author Agatha Christie let the reading begin woo hoo

I'm on my second Agatha Christie book (the first was The Murder of Roger Ackroyd), and I'm enjoying Death on the Nile so much more! I love your books, may I ask what publisher/edition those are? The vintage covers are so nice. I love this video, really helpful.

I am in the camp of just reading whatever is recommended to me on the front page of the Google Play Book store, as long as it has Agatha's name on it. And golly jeez, after a year of non-stop reading, it is getting messy to remember which book I had had and which isn't, not to mentioned some books are printed with a different name ore translated to Vietnamese with a different name. I need a list of names and short descriptions to start sorting out what to read next.

What a shame Miss Marple doesn't actually exist. And, therefore, what a shame that you will never meet her, and experience her disdain at being disrespectfully addressed as "Marple" instead of "Miss Marple."

I love Miss Marple too. My first Agatha Christie book was actually "The Thirteen Problems". Btw I think that "They do it with mirrors" could be a great recommendation for the first read too

Did you read the tommy and tuppence books? I’ve seen the bbc series (Both the 80s series as the recent one) and I was wondering iff the books are good.

I did indeed! I'd say they aren't at the same level as Marple or Poirot, but they were fun enough, especially the earlier ones

Hey ! New to your channel and very much a beginner with Christie but already so in love with her books. I was just wondering if you’ve ever read ‘Ten Dead Comedians’ by Fred Van Lente ? It’s a comedic homage to golden age mystery but specifically ‘And Then There Were None’ by Christie. I really enjoyed it and would love to hear your thoughts on it or if it’s something you would ever read. I stumbled across it when researching a reading challenge category (a retelling of a classic). Also great video! :)

I have been reading the facsimile editions, based off your videos and the fact that the covers are so much better. Do you have ay idea what the letters on the bottom of every few pages of them are? I assume it was part of the crime club promotions at the time? Just curious. Thanks love the channel.

I just read AC for the first time and it was tough to get past some of the norms of the 1930s, when the book was published. The anti-semitism, the woman-slapping as if it were normal...I don't know. It's hard to swallow. The book I'm referring to is ATTWN. Are all the other books like this?

I regard "And Then There Were None" (I slightly prefer the British title of "Ten Little Indians", but it's probably considered somehow racist these days -- eye-roll) as perhaps the finest whodunit I've ever read. In my humble opinion Dame Agatha makes one subtle slip toward the reader that I wish could be neatly excised (it would be very easily done), but it is still superb.

Have to agree about Hugh Fraser reading the novels. Suchet does a good job voicing Poirot, but he is TERRIBLE at other characters. Fraser does it all well, surprisingly even Poirot.
