I miss this show very much. UPDATE ON ERIC BROWN: He was the Communications Director for William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for almost 11 years. Now he's the principle for Brownbridge Strategies (and he still looks so good!).

Anyone know why Vicki Lawrence wanted to quit the series? She was absolutely phenomenal. I would have loved to have more seasons.
@michaelmalaret13998 жыл бұрын
+tristanhnl By the the show wrapped in 1991, Viki Lawrence had played the role of Mama for almost twenty years dating back to the days as a skit THE FAMILY on the original Carol Burnett Show.
@tristanhnl8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Malaret, thanks for the explanation, I didn't realise that Vicki had played the part for that long. I suppose anyone would get tired of a character after that duration of time, but boy she was so good as Mama!

They were supposed to have done 100 syndicated episodes, but only filmed 95. I often feel they should have done one more season and wrapped it up with a family reunion

Me too. I still watch mamas family everyday.

@@sherrysmith3538 me too, always thought Vint was the funniest one by far.

wish they would do a family reunion of the cast and bring them all together on TV again. I worked love the show and would love to them with the baby grown now.

I'd love to have that to give Buzz and Sonja a better send-off than Mama just repeating "No Buzz or Sonja" three times.
@andrelabelle17465 жыл бұрын
loved them all
@daddy22995 жыл бұрын
It was mentioned twice in the 1st year of syndication that Buzz and Sonja went to live with their mother in Las Vegas.

Also Vicki Lawerence recorded "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" which Cher turned down because she said that it didn't fit her style so Vicki recorded it.
@catherinecatlover Жыл бұрын
Actually Cher was very scared to sing it because of the controversal lyrics .

Why is there no mention of The Golden Girls for Rue McClanahan and Betty White. Those were roles for which they were best known for. Blanche and Rose. Still a good video though. Thanks for posting. Loved Mama's Family.

Actually there were a few times when Carl's voice was heard from the bathroom. The voice was Harvey Korman's.

Here's another fun fact. Rue McClanahan, Betty White and Carol Burnett all worked on Soaps. Carol Burnett as Verla Grubbs on All My Children, Betty White as Ann Douglas on The Bold & The Beautiful, and Rue McClanahan as the Evil Housekeeper Caroline on Another World where Ted Shackleford played Ray Gordon who was Sally Frame's "Real" Father. Rue would later work with Olivia Newton John on Sordid Lives and Olivia would win a Daytime Emmy for Writing a Love Song for The Soap Opera As The World Turns.

Dorothy Lyman worked in soaps too.
@laminage8 жыл бұрын
Yes, she played Gwen Parrish Frame on Another World from 1976-1980 and "Originated" the role of Opal Gardner on All My Children.
@michaelmalaret13998 жыл бұрын
One correction to your montage. The role of Carl harper was actually played by series creator Dick Clair. Also of note Ken Barry Originally played the role of Phillip Harper in the special Eunice which served as a precursor to Mama's Family. the role of Phillip was originated by Roddy McDowell on the Carol Burnett Show. Mama's family was based off a skit on the Carol Burnett show THE FAMILY and first aired in 1974
@rebeccasabet28028 жыл бұрын
Ken actually did play Carl Harper's one visual appearence on the series in the final episode when Vint and Naomi's daughter was born.

Dorthy also acted in a soap opera another world she was Steve's new love for a while. Remember Rachel he was in love with Steve since the show started. Dorothy was just a fling for a little while.lol.

One thing about Ken Barry you forgot his portrayal of Captain Wilton Parmeter on F Troop.

I love Lucy was the 1st tv show to go big in cindacation..... last part of the video is wrong.
@michaelmalaret13998 жыл бұрын
+ericking1000 I love Lucy was repeat shows in syndication. There were other incarcerations of the Lucy show and stuff but they were not I Love Lucy. Mama.s Family was the first show to go big as a first run show in syndication.
@rebeccasabet28028 жыл бұрын
The first season was on nbc
@michaelmalaret13998 жыл бұрын
Rebecca yes the first two seasons were on NBC but Seasons 3-9 were first run syndication and original program for syndication. I love Lucy ran on CBS then went into syndication and has been there ever since. Mama's Family Seasons 3-finale were all original programming and not repeats. Even after the syndication run it was not until 2005 that the first two seasons of Mama's Family repeats made it into resale syndication. You would only see seasons 3- the end on re runs.
@migue47936 жыл бұрын
First run syndication is where new episodes are created and other networks pick up the series. It's actually brilliant because the actors get paid more from the royalties in syndication first or second run

I had wondered why in the thread of actors on the show it didn’t mention that Ken Berry (Vint) had passed away in California of what they called heart issues after stent surgery...I’ve had 4 stents inserted myself 2 in the chest and 2 in my renal arteries one on each side but this show is by far the funniest show that was on tv in the 80’s...I still can’t figure out why they wrote Buzz and Sonya out of the show and Rue McClanahan (Fran) and they had her die from choking on a toothpick..guess they wanted to try and make that funny...I was hoping that the producers would reboot mamas family but with Ken Berry dead and Vicki Shultz calling it quits back then I don’t think it could be done...Berry played Vint in such good fashion...you’ve got to be a great actor to pretend to be such a idiot and he was loved by millions...RIP Vint ol buddy...
