THE SEARCH FOR MY FIRST SWIMBAIT FISH - Castaic Lake Fishing

In this video I embark on a 7 day fishing mission at Castaic Lake to catch my very first swimbait fish. With recent trout plants at the lake everyone has been pulling out the swimbait gear to try and get a trout eater to hit, and I am no exception. Had a lot of ups and down over these 7 days and thought about calling it quits several times. Physical and mental exhaustion, frustration, disappointment, and some funny moments, but in the end the grind paid off and I was rewarded with my first swimbait fish ever and a new PB! That lake is an absolute grind. Some huge fish in there, but between the terrain, the sun, and the heat, you are in for a grueling day no matter what. Bring a towel to lay your best gear on. The rocks and dessert sand are unforgiving on your tackle. Love the dedication bro!

For sure, I just got an 8 inch BBZ Trout too but waiting for a rental boat to throw that. Too risky from the bank. I always take tons of baits with me too. I don't get a chance to fish as often as I'd like so gotta bring the regular gear too. I know it's just a matter of time. I love the baits that I have. It's weird but I'm confident in them just gotta work on the techniques more. The whole opening and closing shit kills me. I want to night fish more but you "cant" it's ridiculous.

Hahahaha so do I. 😂 Idk if you mean the reel or the handle but the Cardiff 400 has that little clicker switch on the bottom that will cut into your hand after a few casts on a colder day. I just wear a glove now to prevent it. The handle that came off I believe was my own fault, must have needed to go a little tighter while installing it a few days prior. It’s been much better since then. And thanks man I appreciate it 👊🏽😊

The grind for the swimbait fish is always tough, you did figure out the secret though when throwing the hud you just have to grind that fish in until the boat or the bank.

i had 3 pop my hud back to back the other day, i think these lures HAVE to have the butch brown mods to be effective; they pop like spoons without swivels

Hahaha yeah man I got bumped a number of times where they must have just grabbed the tail or hit the head and missed the hook. They gotta come up behind it and really inhale it I think, which is another reason to fish them as slow as possible. Probably wouldn’t hurt to have that stinger hook on there, but surprisingly most guys I know who catch a lot of fish on them have told me they prefer it with just the one stock hook on there. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I found that interesting.

Fr how people gone be mad at a no fish day, I fished castaic 16 times before I caught my first fish, it was a free lined night crawler that caught me a 7.34lbs largemouth… my dad literally tells me all the time that was going to be the last time he drove me all the way out Cuase I literally “never catch anything” keep grinding and love the content 👍

Here with the Hud I was just trying to slow roll on the bottom. I suggest going even slower than I show me going in the video. BORINGLY SLOW. This fish was on a parallel cast to shore so it wasn’t as deep, but I usually cast, let it drop down, and just slooooooooow roll lol 😁 Sometimes you can speed up for a second to get a reaction from a follower, or stop and go, but if you ask anyone they’ll tell you with the Huddleston it’s a slow roll on the bottom or at least bottom half. 🤙🏽

@@fkhfvgfjbdv6198 Yeah it’s tough up there right now especially from the shore. The majority of the fish are back in the coves chasing the shad so unless you have a boat it’s hard to get on them. On a boat people try to net the shad and use them as bait which is the best, but it’s very hard to catch them.

This lake is trash. Hardly any fish. Saw a few babies by the dock and they kick you out from there. Uh, I caught nothing walking half the lake. This lake says it's a state lake, but when you use the state pass, they say it's private....how do you do that? The state seal is on the damn entrance. Too much bull at the trash lake. Told buddy never to invite me to this lake again.

Ahhhh man this lake is actually loaded with fish! They’re just very very tough to catch because the lake is so pressured by so many fishermen. Takes some time to figure out how to catch em there for sure.
