Really appreciate you getting back to me about the Onyx moose knuckle jacket I suggested. I bought it before this review and have 0 regrets. I got the puffer also retailing at $1395 on Black Friday for $800 after taxes. I bought a size small which is true to size but no room for layering which isn’t necessary since this thing is warm and it doesn’t make you sweat either. My only complaint is the fox fur trim. Maybe it was just mine or it was shipped to me after a couple people tried it on but one side looks puffier than the other. Maybe it was just made that way or some fur ripped off? Either way it looks great and isn’t too noticeable.
@MensFashionFiles2 жыл бұрын
@@thedevilhimself6557 It def is a super warm jacket that you dont need to layer underneath. Hmm interesting about the fur, it could be inconsistent fur length also. but anyways, its an awesome jacket for the winter indeed 👌

Rab and North Face seem the best value? I got the rab one recently for £140 from their factory shop. The 1395 first jacket? How can that get such a high value rating? Plus Moose Knuckle means something much different in the UK😂 Canada Goose are stupid. Over priced… like Moncler. Would be interesting to see how Patagonia and Arc’Terycx stand up.

I was shocked to see some of the prices these jackets retail for. I own 3 winter down filled coats; a North Face, Wind River and a Sear's Alpine Tech brand. All of these coats are 10 to 15 years old and are quality made and still look new and I don't believe I paid over $600 for all of them combined. Times sure have changed when it comes to cost.

Good head to head comparison and look at the features was helpful. But the warmth rating??? Well… Now I live in a northern state, real temperatures dropping to -25°F with wind chills as low as -45°F doing a coldness comfort comparison when the outside temperature is jacket weather, 39°F doesn’t say much for the jackets especially the ones you complained about feeling the cold when you came back inside. 3 of these jackets I have tried in colder temperatures about 10°F and they all failed miserably to keep me warm, especially across the shoulders and upper back. But the fit and feel portion of your tests that was very helpful.

Also the seamless design on the Eddie bauer Glacier Peak jacket is not for looks but rather to prevent wind and water from seeping into the stitching that you see on traditional quilted puffer jackets.

Btw they have a longer version of that jacket. Same name but it’s a parka instead of jacket. Again though, for a winter jacket that covers you in the coldest temperature is your life later encounter in the city/urban life, I recommend the Superior a Down Parka or if you want something shorter, their “superior down bomber” jacket.

@@AlexanderMason1What about cotopaxi stellar and mountain hardwear [800]
@AlexanderMason1 Жыл бұрын
@@Lord_Don Cotopaxi makes really good jackets but are honestly a bit too expensive for me. They’re also more of a thinner down jacket, not appropriate for Canadian winter. they do use a higher power down but that doesn’t equal it being warmer than a lower power jacket. A low fill power jacket can be just as warm as a higher fill power jacket. It’ll just need more down to accomplish that so it will weigh more.

Eddie Bauer has a line that is the best price to quality ratio Try their “superior down” line. They have a bomber, a parka and a coat. Bomber is the shortest and coat is the longest. They use 650fp down (rds certified) at a ratio of 80/20. The outer shell is durable, waterproof and fully seam sealed. The liner doesn’t leak down. They have the baffles on the inside so no cold air leaks through the jacket. They have a lot of down. They have cargo pockets that fit a pair of gloves and a hat or neck gaiter, as well as hand warmer chest pockets. Their bomber is warmer than the Canada goose Chilliwack and the parka is warmer than the Canada Goose Langford. The bomber is good for -5 to -20c (lower even honestly) and ill usually wear the parka is anything below-20c. I wore the parka in -45c/-49f with a trappers hat and balaclava, heavy mitt. Baselayers, jeans and a wool sweater and i was hot in there. The bomber is 379$CAD but is alway on special. On Black Friday or boxing day it can be bought for 135$-170$CAD. The parka is 400$ full price but again he’s always on special and can be bought for C$200-C$270 on Boxing Day or Black Friday. For those prices, it is unbeatable. Not all the jackets are as good or as warm though. Their women’s Superior down line doesn’t have as much down in them. They have other jackets for women that are warmer. Hope this helps someone who is looking for a canada goose quality or higher jacket for the lowest price possible.

I would agree with these rankings. I wish you’d make your comparisons in brand through across the same style of coat. For example, you ding the Parajumpers coat because it’s not as long as the others…but you have their bomber version. Get a parka version like the Kodiak or right hand. Then you compare some puffer coats to parkas as well. So is love to see an all parka comparison or an all bomber or all puffer comparison. Not a mix. Additionally I would compare technical coats to fashion coats. They are very different. I’d stick with one or the other for you me comparisons. Finally I’d love to see some other brands like mackage and montcler added in…but don’t do their puffers….do their parkas and bombers (non-puffer style bombers that is). Then there are other less common brands like woolrich and nobos that would be cool to see compared as well.

I have a concern about your test. Your hands are in your pockets. That will change the way the coat fits. For the coats with pockets outside of the insulation (eg, Fjallraven), your hands might push the insulation against the part of the body you're testing, thus making the coat seem warmer than it actually is. For those coats with pockets that go underneath the insulation (eg, Marmot), having your hands in your pockets might warm the skin beneath them.

There's a big variance in the weight/ warmth rating for these jackets. Rab Valiance is a mid-weight jacket not comparable to the rest. Rab Arctus or Expedition 8000 are more comparable. The CG parkas equivalent to the Moose Knuckles or North Face are TEI 4 eg the Langford. Fjallraven has a non Lite Expedition jacket, puffy all to hell though.

Rab Arctus or Expedition 8000 are in another league, the same of the expedition parkas by Canada Goose or Fjallraven expedition down jacket, osc mission, nobis Condor extreme and other expedition jackets from other brands, by far too warm and not suitable as citywear. For exampke, Fjallraven has also polar parka and the out of production expedition down parka n°1, very big and heavy parkas with box wall construction and a lot of down inside. The expedition down jacket has two stitched offset layers for eliminating cold spots. But they are not stilysh at all 😁

A very comprehensive review of each jacket, but it's not really a fair test to compare a jacket costing $1,300 against one costing $400 if the manufacturer of the $400 jacket has more expensive, and much warmer, models in its range. Most people won't say "What's the warmest 750 FP down jacket I can buy?", they'll say "What's the warmest jacket I can buy with whatever money I have?", so cost is a much more important factor and therefore a much better way to select models for comparison. For way less than $1,300 you could buy a down jacket literally suitable for an Everest summit attempt from some manufacturers. I know this because I own one.

It really does depend what you’re going to do when you wear these coats. The best Down jacket is not necessarily down to how warm it is. Some of the jackets on the test are low activity level ‘Town’ coats such as Canada Goose and Moose Knuckles & North Face etc, they’re very good at keeping you warm and of course they have that all important logo for those to need to be seen wearing a coat from an expensive brand (though their animal welfare ethics and standards Leave a lot to be desired). If all you’re going to do with them is pop to the shops or watch a sports match then they’ll do the trick. But there are brands like Rab and Fjallraven that are more dedicated to higher output activities in the outdoors, which include hiking, mountaineering, etc. This is when the jackets weight and breathability are just as important as their warmth. Most of the ‘fashion’ coats would be too warm for most more to hike in and would be impossible to compress into a backpack, should you not need them.

Wonder if you could test Arc'teryx Veilance jackets, Monitor down would be their best example

What about Wellensteyn? You should do a video about their jackets. They go extra hard for the past 5 years

Nice review, thinking about buying a parka and still debating between a TNF and a Columbia. How tall are you, if you don't mind to answer? I'm 5'7 155lbs so I'm just curious.

0 degrees is really not cold for you to be wearing these parkas. I wish you could’ve tested them in a colder environment. Also you are comparing completely different styles. For Eddie bower, I recommend the “superior down parka”. If bought on special at half price, it’s a steal of a deal. Kept me warm at -30C. Warmer that the Canada goose Langford parka.

Wanted to test them in colder temps but we had a "warm" December. Thanks for the recommendation, I will look into the superior down parka for part 3

This guy must have a prejudice on Eddie Bauer. Otherwise, how stupid it is to compare a jacket of $1,500 to ED's $155!

Parajumpers, RAB, Canada Goose and North Face are by far the best jackets on this list. The warmth and fit is far superior than any other brands
