I’ve been using Crown lately, it’s less expensive that’s the only reason. Just fired up the 1955 228e yesterday, so nice to see it glow again.

Coleman white gas is the same exact thing as Crown, and although many people think the difference is that Crown doesn’t contain a rust inhibitor, it does.

i always used gasoline, but i guess white gas if you can afford it.

Gasoline is fine as long as you don't leave it long term. The water in gasoline will rot out tanks where white gas has rust inhibitors to prevent issues. Gasoline also has oxidizers which make it "go bad" pretty quickly compared to white gas which will last decades.

@LanternLabs agreed. I always use gasoline when testing coleman stoves and lanterns/lamps, but I wouldn't want to leave it in there over a season and give rust a chance to invade. In fact, for long term storage I think it best to drain the fuel, leave the fuel cap off and let remainder to evaporate. I just cleaned a kerosene Coleman lamp- that was a mess! Generator was so dirty I thought there was no salvaging but I freed it up and now it's clean. "White gas" (or gasoline) - my answer!

White gas it is! Thanks. But what can I buy that burns white gas that’s not junk nowadays?
@LanternLabs2 жыл бұрын
I've got a Coleman 285 lantern and a whitegas Northstar. Neither could be regarded as junk, they both burn very well.
@yinshah33032 жыл бұрын
@@LanternLabs Thanks for the reply! I’m not quite familiar with the lantern model numbers. Correct me if I’m wrong the current duel gas model is 295. Is that same or on par quality wise to the 285? What about a 288? I can get one of those lightly used. Thanks. Ps. The northstar looks so cool but i can only find them on ebay from Japan for $240😞

I can't tell if you're serious or not but in case somebody else reads this, the answer is NO.

@@LanternLabs yeah! It was a joke. Ha ha ha. (Awkeward silence) No. I was being serious. I don't know enough about gases. But, after posting my question and doing more research. I found the answer to be as yrrs.
