The today called Desert Castles 🌵 are a group of buildings scattered in the Jordanian eastern desert 🇯🇴 which are located east and south of Amman.

The functions of these castles, so called because of their complexity and grandeur, have not been fully clarified but they may have had different purposes. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Some suggest that they were the first fortress palaces, 🏰 where rulers could get away from the city and spend different seasons practicing agriculture, 🧑🏼‍🌾 or they could have been caravanserais, places of refuge for caravans and camels, 🐫 resting places, trade centers and sites that helped to strengthen the relations of foreign rulers with the Bedouins. 🤴🏼
Its mosaics, frescoes and engravings are a trace of Persian and Greco-Roman tradition and an image of daily life in the 8th century.
