@Vlad Balabkin Soviet occupation and horrors of the past that came from them. Much like every other countries that fell to them. One example being that during the entire time of the occupation, anyone could report anyone for anything. Result of that was that a entire family would "disapear" even if there was no evidence to back up the claim. Those people got sent to Gulags in Russia or where killed. It is a wothy thing to remember what happened but not to judge a entire nation from it. Normal Russians suffered as well. But they too have forgotten the bad things of the Soviet Union and many want it back. Same with younger Estonians who did not live in the Soviet era. They don't know the horrors of that life since they did not live in it.
@Omoplataha
@Omoplataha 4 жыл бұрын
@Vlad Balabkin Im a Finn with intrest in History. I live with this motto. Yesterdays history leads to todays actions. Todays actions create faits of tomorrow. Fait of tomorrow is based to todays action. All three are linked to each other. Finland was taken from the Empire of Sweden by the Russian Empire in 1809. Got it independence in 1917 when the Russian Revolution was going on. Later during 1939 when Soviet Union made demands on the entire Eastern Europe to give land and military bases Finland refused. Thus Soviets attacked and that war was known as the Winter War. That lasted for 4 months untill Finland sued for peace. War went badly for the Soviets who got Karelia and other spots of land. Saying was that Soviet got enough ground to bury there dead. Later when Finns wanted there land back. Germany attacked the Soviets with operation Barbossa. Or the Great Patriotic War as it is known in Russia. Finland took it's land back and pushed in. Stalemant ensued for a while in Stalingrad was solved and Soviets pushed on Finland again. Major loss was happened to them in Tali-Ihantala but Finland could not fight back for much longer. So Stalin offered peace to Finland with teretorial claims (and where the border is now) so they could focus on beating the Allies to Berlin. There is a quick WW2 from Finland. Thing is where Russian history books tell a lie is that they conquered Karelia and Vyborg (Выборг). That is a lie since Karelia and Vyborg where evacuated by the Finns after peace was signed and no combat ever happened there.

@2003 Most Estonias is speaking 3 or more languages. In 3rd grade, they start to officially learn the 2nd language and in 6th grade, 3th language will be added. It's on normals schools. But kids sometimes learn also different languages in kindergarten and some schools specialize on some languages. So let's say People start to learn in the home language and then in 3rd grade they add English, Russian, or german depend on choice and school. and also 6th grade they have some choice, some schools have more choices. And after 9th grade, they might go to some language specialized high school they might pick up another language. So basic normality is 3 languages but some speak 4-6.

We speaks good English for the same reason we speak at least two more foreign languages fluently, and for the same reason we are good at math and IT and lots of other things: we have good schools. In Pisa tests we ranked 6th or 8th in the world last year. Like the Scandinavians, we understand that we are a tiny country in a huge world. And to get the most of that world, we have to be able to communicate. Knowing English is a short cut to freedom really. It gives so much freedom, esp in travelling. We know that we cannot enjoy our lives just staying in the tiny country of Estonia all the time, never doing anything anywhere else. And for that reason, we take the knowledge of foreign languages very seriously. I do not know a single Estonian who knows less than two foreign languages. Most know 3 or 4. Not just English.

As an Estonain I and many others think that Italy is a very beatiful country with good people who respect and preserve their culture and traditions. As an Estonain I think that is very important. @@hendriktonisson2915 Well, technically the guy is right, in Italy homosexuals can form a civil union (similar to a marriage, but not the same) and if he doesn't like that he can avoid the all country and population. I just find funny and puzzling how something that doesn't affect him (such country isn't imposing anybody to get married or getting married to people of the same sex) makes him so upset to dislike the all country.

Look at the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Sweden , Norway. These countries are pretty wealthy contires and have very good english speaking skills for English not being the first langauge. I was just wondering about Estonia cause Estonia used to be a Post-Soviet state and as we know 99,9% of Post-Soviet states have ultra super bad english skills. I started learning the 2nd language (English) in kindergarten and the schools also teach Russian from 6th grade i think. There is a 3rd launguange which you can choose. Its a pretty good system here. Kids who are age 10+ can usually already speak english.

"Marriage is a sacred thing between a man and a woman" Yeah and voting used to be a sacred thing between rich men and the government. Things change. Things get modernized, and most importantly, people are too busy doing things so they don't really care if two men get married. Except for this guy. As a Russian, when I was opening this video I was expecting 99% of answers to be ‘Russia’. And I wouldn’t be offended at all, knowing all the difficulties between us. And I must say: damn, I’m really really surprised that almost no one (except that edgy teen guy) named it. Maybe some guys/girls definitely had it on their minds, but at least they didn’t say it. So I guess, the same idea always prevails. People love each other no matter what, but geopolitics f*ck it all up. Love from Russia, our Estonian friends 🇷🇺❤️

I am sure Russia was on almost everybody@s minds. But we are well brought up civilized people and we are very careful about saying things like out out loud on camera, knowing it is a touchy subject for us and for Russians. Also knowing that it would offend a lot of Estonian Russians who perhaps are loyal citizens, who can speak good Estonian, who respect our country. So we do not say these kinds of things out. But the first reaction for most people interviewed, in their minds, definitely was Russia. I know that there was a poll in Russia lately about what countries do they consider as enemies, and Estonia ranked at the top. So I guess you do not like us so much either. Or at least your media portrays us quite negatively.

We have a lot of Russians here, what do you think they feel if you’re scared just thinking about it? Haha No one hates Russians, people hate the Soviet Union and in general, being loud in public (which Russians don’t have a problem with so that’s where some friction comes in), other than that you have no reason to be scared.

@@lisannakuningas Being loud in public is something that even me as a Russian hate. I hate loud crowds and public traffic with loud people. I think it's the genetics more likely that tell allot. Currently I live in middle Europe but I wish we would have migrated somewhere in the northern Europe or Baltics. It's just the people and the spirit, it's more alike to myself.
