Very well dissected sir. It takes a certain level of business/technical maturity to keep all what you said in mind while still doing everyday tasks.

It does take maturity indeed and in my opinion that's the distinction between a senior dev and a more junior person

I reside in Europe, and I've worked for numerous large companies. They have employed remote developers from Pakistan, Iran, India, and similar countries. The primary issues we've encountered revolve around code cleanliness, maintenance, as well as establishing connection and trust. Only one company made the decision to bring developers from India on-site. I can attest that these young Indian developers demonstrated the expertise and knowledge I've accumulated over a span of 20 years, all while being considerably younger.

I bet that the distribution of talent is a bell curve all across the world. The observation is not related to nationality, it’s related to the fact that service companies don’t employ top talent, they employ talent that they can sell their time. Cleanliness, maintenance and writing good code is not rewarded. Billable time is.

Before watching: Lebanon because Bassem. After watching: I understand and relate a bit to Alex and I think he should have an open mind to how others are working and maybe start adopting those tools which will make his life easier.

I agree! we should keep an open mind about all emerging tech

Thanks, Bassem, for shedding light on this unfair comparison. I agree with everything you've said. However, I still believe that, given the current salary rate disparities between the West and the MENA regions, this comparison brings up an important point. That is, the effective use of AI assistants could provide MENA developers with an advantage over their Western counterparts because the production cost will always be lower with the former in general cases. I think your video should be viewed as a call to adopt these tools, primarily to better serve the goal of focusing more on business problem-solving.

I agree with this message, and while it is true that the compensation varies greatly between the USA and the rest of the world, it's not that different between Europe and the middle east for example where the costs of living are comparable. I'd venture into saying that the middle east's costs of living (Lebanon for example) are even higher than Europe for the lack of social safety nets. Therefore, yes, these tools will give developers from low / middle income countries an edge, we should not use that as an excuse to keep salaries low in the region even though the costs of living are skyrocketing.

@@glich.stream Yes, I agree with this message too, but it's essential to recognize that not all MENA countries have the same compensation rates. I've worked with developers from Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Pakistan, and India, and their salaries are still significantly lower compared to developers from Europe so here comes the chance, I think Lebanon has always had a higher standard of living than its neighbors nevertheless every developer should try to benefit from these new tools and money will come after that :)

What if Alex starts using the AI tools, is he restricted to use it?
@glich.stream Жыл бұрын
Then Alex will be way more productive, guaranteed. Alex (or the persona they represent) will take their game to the next level. One thing will not change though, they will not be cheaper.
