@@akashravishankar5144 You mean how anime brought a bunch of people to Germany, already somewhat self taught on the language? But joking aside, I think most people appreciate any attempt what so ever, especially from Americans. It's all too easy for me to sit in the melting pot of people and forget oh yeah, some countries are like 95% one race. And even the countries that do have English tourists and immigrants appreciate it. I mean, I went to Montreal a couple times and I know 99% of people are bilingual. But I made sure to learn "I'm so sorry, I don't speak French. Do you speak English?" I'd never spoken French and my pronunciation was atrocious, literally so bad someone didn't understand me at first. Yet every person but one broke out in big smiles whether they did or not, because I didn't just assume. But the best was the 14 year old madlad who got so insulted by my question that his little fit actually made me accidentally laugh... loud. What a bonus.

I had to laugh when the lady was stroking your hair. As a kid my grandparents would take me on holiday to Spain, when walking down the street or at the beach elderly Spanish ladies/men would stop and stare at me, they would point to my blonde hair, pale skin and green/blue eyes they would ask my grandparents to touch my hair. They would give me praise and hard boiled sweets out of their bags they had for their grandchildren, it was something so little but it was funny.

I see comments like these all the time. I think the thing is is that in general, especially Asians, people find that blonde hair and blue eyes along with pale skin are among the prettiest combination. You kind of see that in TV and movies too. I think that's probably why Korean makeup don't have many shades because they like the pale look. America is pretty diverse so I feel like we tend to like tanned skins more. You don't really hear Asians tanning unless you're into gyaru.

Not exactly. Best way is to learn the basics and practice. If you just blindly go to China or Japan (or any other foreign country) not knowing anything, you'd be screwed. Maybe it's bc we've had so much immigration over the past decades here in Germany but it's just really normal to see foreigners speak a variety of levels of German. I'm the same way. Over 600 days straight of learning langauges now (I used to do spanish in high school but stopped for 2.5 years) and have never used a foreign language in a real life conversation. LOL To be fair though idk how much you really need in order to do it.

I get really shy around native speakers so sometimes I find another learner and practice with them by just having conversations on a weekly basis. It's not as good as talking with a native because they can't help spot all your errors. But if you are too shy to speak with a native it is better than not practicing at all!

I think for a lot of people lack of confidence can be traced to fear of screwing up/making mistakes. Getting over that fear by knowing that you ARE going to make mistakes, and that you will learn from them, is one key to happiness as a human being. You embody that well, Anming!

I would love to be able to impress Japanese people with my ability to speak their language as it should be, but even before beginning, it is a very daunting task to undertake. For me, it is extremely hard to retrain a brain to learn a language at all, let alone, Japanese, with its different contextual differences in sentence structure. I have yet to find a quality system to learn from. But if I ever got the chance to go to an Asian country, I would be very respectful and friendly. It's just the way I am. Good video!

One thing I've noticed of Chinese people from their mainland who never left it either, is their fondness of seeing a foreigner for the first time. what i can say, in china its easy to go arround with english language, had no issues in Bejing and Shanghai, nearly everywhere i went, everybody spoke +- decent and understandable english. In Tokyo, Japanese are quite bad in english. Even if they try to speak, its terrible. I had hard time asking for dirrections. I also can speak Latvian ( native language ), Russian and German, wouldnt try those, since English was already bad for them.

I was in Russia and do not speak Russian, I was having trouble with a breakfast order. A German man asked me in bad English if he could help. We discovered our Spanish was good enough to communicate and he had the cook fix the problem. He fought in Stalingrad during the war and was back to see the battlefields and the city. The Russians were eager to talk with him. I never learned if he had been captured or how he learned Russian. Knowing languages helps everybody. People are nice governments can be evil. I am an engineer and was working with Russian engineers. We were able to communicate with diagrams, a few words of each others language and math. We actually told the translator to take a break because we communicated better without her because she didn't know the science and engineering terms and it was easier to make progress without having to explain things. In essence the engineers spoke the same language.
