Jetson ONE eVTOL Aircraft costs $92000 and, if you buy it, your order will be delivered in 2023. On the other hand, the long-awaited ultralight BlackFly Aircraft will hopefully be available to order at the beginning of 2022. These two extraordinary eVTOL aircraft fall into the ultralight category, which means that there is no pilot license required to fly them. Also, both single-seat eVTOLs will have a similar price tag. In this video, I will compare Jetson One and Opener’s Blackfly Aircraft, I will explain the main differences between the two eVTOL configurations and how they affect range and performance.

Well, ok, but, I calculate the flight time to be 2-4 minutes, and then the batteries are dead. The only way I can get my math to come anywhere near 20 minutes is when there's nobody onboard, and they just fly it remote controlled. And, someone in their comments said that they called the company, who said that the flight time is 3 minutes with an adult male pilot. So, yeah, better takeoffs and landings, alright. But, how much would you pay for that kind of flight time?

I like the Jetson because of its compact design, the better stability on the ground & its profile whilst flying forward. It appears more manageable & easier to prepare for flight plus pack-up when finished for the day. The current price puts it beyond a recreational tool for most enthusiasts. Wish I was rich & could simply order one.

I've done the math on the Jetson, based on the batteries they say they use, the weight, and the known efficiency of those types of rotors. I calculate 2-4 minutes of flight time, depending on the weight of the pilot. And, someone in their video comments said he called the company themselves, and that they told him that it's 3 minutes with an adult male pilot, which is right smack in the middle of my calculations. The only way I can calculate anywhere near a 20 minute flight time is if nobody is onboard, and they are just using it in remote controlled drone mode, which they do show as an option, so, I believe that's why they think they can claim 20 minutes. But, in reality, I don't think you're getting anywhere near 20 minutes with an actual person onboard. They do have a cult following, though, which rejects math, and just blindly believes any claim they see. And, that's fine... if only the company would actually demonstrate it to the public... or even maybe show an actual uncut video. But, they don't. Every video on their channel is taken in front of nobody in the public, and is filled with tons of jump-cuts and editing. Since the Wright brothers, the way new aircraft are introduced to the world is to publicly display them at air shows, for everything from little 1 person craft, all the way up to jumbo airliners. But, not with these guys. Nope. They make private videos with no public audience, edit them, make a claim that it can fly for 20 minutes (despite the self-contradicting math), and even claim there's a parachute on that thing (where?). Yet, the cult follows them anyway.

Jetson seems like it would be more useful for people. You can put it in your garage or the back of your truck and just wheel it out and take off. With BlackFly, you have to put it in a trailer, haul it out to some location with enough room to set up, assemble it for 30 minutes, and then you can take off. If I lived on a farm, maybe BlackFly would make sense, but both aircraft give you around 20 minutes of flight time so you won't be able to go any useful distance out in the country.

Yeah, even if regulation kicks in (it will) you would be able to “drive” a Jetson hovering over in-city public roads, and potentially get an exemption to take over instead of around the cars without still having to get a full pilot license. The other one, for sure, will eventually require a license other than on some auto-pilot tech, but then all the fun is out the window.

I wish I had the money for either one. I only live ten min from my work in a very rural area and either would be great! I'd love to fly above the fields or the river into work, charge it back up during my shift and fly home afterwards. Either evtol would be a gas saver and a blast on the weekend. The Jetson looks "cooler" and the smaller storage size is a plus, but the lower cost of the blackfly, the enclosed cockpit, the slightly longer flight time, and the wings (I assume they give you the possible of gliding some if something happens) would make it the one I'd pick.
@rockethead7

Well, I think 10 minutes is much too far, at least for the Jetson. I calculated the Jetson based upon the specifications they give, and the known efficiency of rotors in that configuration, and I came up with 2-4 minutes of flight time. Someone in the comments said he called the company, who told him it was 3 minutes with an adult male pilot. And, I just do not trust their 20 minute claim one bit. I think if it could do 20 minutes, despite all math indicating otherwise, they'd have demonstrated it by now. But, they haven't. "20 minutes" just remains an unsubstantiated claim on a website. So, bottom line: you'll be making 3 stops for recharges on your way to work. An hour or two to charge each stop... you can take it from there.

These two concepts will one day be looked back upon the way we look back at the Model T today. It should also be interesting to see how much more the government digs their claws into regulation, particularly if vehicles like BlackFly indeed come into an affordable-to-the-general-public price range. Personally I like the BlackFly but I think the general public would be turned off by the awkward take off and landing stance (i.e. lack of landing/taxiing gear)

I shared the same idea about blimps with my professor at IIT. He said the design is impractical and it will increase the parasitic drag and the engine will require to expend more power. If the object has to move forward, then the balloon will not give many benefits. Plus if someone punctures the balloon the aircraft may fall if the aircraft is designed to be dependent on it. Blimps may help if we can design it in the shape of a B52 bomber, then maybe we get rid of the profile drag. Then the blimp itself acts like a wing. But here we must note that getting a lift is not a challenge. Drag is the challenge. The extra lift from the blimp will only enable it to fly upwards. What's the use of going a little extra in the upward direction? Our aim is always to travel in the forward direction. *Lift is something we get for free while countering the drag using the engine power. That's how an aircraft flies.* Currently available wings give so much lift that we don't need a balloon to add anything here. Balloons were actually used in Zeppelin aircraft a long time back. If someday we are designing a flying aircraft carrier, then Balloons may come in handy again. But unfortunately, that's also not happening, because missile technologies have improved so much that only hidden submarines are safe right now. For example, one single Kinzhal missile can bring down the huge USS Gerald aircraft carrier. That's why Mr. Biden is not sending it anywhere near Ukraine. A flying aircraft carrier concept may look like this: ______________ | Helium gas | |--------------------
