I have 2 of the 4 mutual funds already in my 403b. I have FSRFX Transportation which returns close to your pick. If the average person only invested in those 4 stocks, over the course of 30 years they should be in pretty good shape come retirement time. I love what you do. Keeping it simple and educating.

So, Fidelity saws that their retail fund is up an average of 14% for 34 years and right now the price is $15.+. Using compound interest this fund would have had to have had a NAV of about .05 at it's inception unless it split several times. Never believe Fidelity numbers on mutual funds. I know, I've been in Fidelity for 30 years.

Hi Mike. Really new to all this. What percentage would you split these up in a portfolio to equal 100% distribution? Something like 25% per fund? Thank you for outstanding and honest advice!
@MoneyandLifeTV
@MoneyandLifeTV 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Elder, if you wanted to own all 4 I think 25% each would be a reasonable split. Mutual funds are made up of various individual stocks so you don't need many to be diversified. However, Some of these funds may have overlap in the stocks they hold so you might also check out a few other mutual funds as well to be further diversified. Thanks for the support.I'll be working on another fidelity video soon.

At about 14:10 you say the year to date return of FSAIX was 16.25% and dominating the market. s&p 500 = 13.2% dow = 12.8% and nasdaq = 16.7% - so not beating the nasdaq, but it is outperforming the other two by about 3%. Does that figure already subtract the expense ratio as well? To clarify more: At about 15:00 you say the funds are averaging higher than the S&P 500 averages of 6-8%. But they are completely different time frames from the conception of the funds and when the S&P 500 was started. The data is useless without an apples-to-apples comparison. Determine the return of the S&P 500 from the conception date of the fund, then compare it. FSAIX conception date: 12/18/1985 - opened at 9.89 , on 12/18/2018 (33 years) valued at 68.20 - overall return for 33 years: 5.895% Now the S&P 500 - 12/18/1985 - valued at 210.94 , 12/18/2018 (33 years) valued at 2416.62 - overall return for the S&P 500 in the exact same time frame: 10.456% - Your fund FSAIX, UNDERPERFORMED the S&P 500 by 4.561%. When comparing investments you need to look at the same time frames, not throw a general number out there. Mutual Funds are really yesterday's investments and people have come to realize that fund managers do not outperform the market in the long term. I would suggest using Fidelity's new Zero Commission index funds instead.

Your comment got me interested. I dont quite understand all the charts. Ones he has shown in video are from fidelity site, which shows all of them beating S&P500. I went to yahoo finance, compared each one of them with S&P since the beginning of the inception of those funds (clicked on "Charts" and selected start date as inception of the fund, and put S&P500 as comparison), and this is what i found - FSPHX - Overall chart shows it beats S&P, but going a little granular, only first 10 year from fund's inception, it was beating S&P well. Since then (starting 1991), S&P has been consistently beating it FSRPX - It narrowly beats S&P. I wonder, with it's expense ratio, if it will be worth it FBGRX and FSAIX - S&P500 smokes these two at every corner (overall, as well as smaller sub-periods). But the graphs showsn in the video show otherwise This is where i am confused. Fidelity shows some graph, yahoo finance shows some graph. I don't know what to infer from those graphs.

In my opinion the healthcare sector (which has lagged so far compared to other sectors and the market) represents a buying opportunity given the maturity in the business cycle. @MoneyandLifeTV
@MoneyandLifeTV 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Lenini, this is not a bad question at all. Many people have this question. Even I get confused at times due to how many different kinds of fees are in place. The net expense ratio what the annual fee would be so .07% in this example. There are some waived fees, and reimbursements built into the fund. I recommend checking out this article form investopedia, as it helps explain this stuff in a lot more detail. I learn a TON from investopedia: www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/091515/comparing-etf-gross-vs-net-expense-ratios.asp

with those high expense ratios, like FSRPX at .76% , I am worried about an expense ratio that high. The other fidelity funds such as FSKAX has a .015% expense ratio and has a average 10 yr return of +13.80%. I would still grow my money 13.80%. The FSRPX has a 10yr of +18.67% but a expense ratio of .76%. With them taking that percent out annually, would it hurt the growth of the fund due to that percentage not going back into the fund? Or does it having a higher average 10 yr return make the higher expense ratio not even matter? I am trying to build my roth portfolio, but want to choose the best funds without paying too much in expense ratios that in return would not be going back into the fund. Sorry for my lengthy post, but thank you for your time and helping me to understand this. I appreciate it.

So by buying Fidelity blue Chip growth I am buying some pieces of Amazon, google, Facebook, etc...??
@MoneyandLifeTV
@MoneyandLifeTV 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kazekage, I love your question. So the way it works is you buy shares of the "fund" The fund directly owns the stocks, amazon, google, facebook, etc. Since the fund is the owner of those stocks its performances mirrors the performance of the stocks it holds. So do you directly own shares of the stocks by buying the fund? The answer would be no. However, since you are buying the fund you would still reap the performance benefits of those stocks since that is what the fund owns. Hope that makes sense. It is like you own those stocks indirectly, by directly investing in the fund itself.
@kazekage55100
@kazekage55100 5 жыл бұрын
@@MoneyandLifeTV Thanks for clearing that up. So I wouldn't benefit from the dividends that Apple and Visa provide since I don't "directly" own them...is that correct?
@MoneyandLifeTV
@MoneyandLifeTV 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kazekage, actually you might it just depends on what fund you are choosing. You would still receive the performance and dividends through the fund. The way to know is to check the dividend yield of the mutual fund or etf before purchasing it. Some funds don't pay the dividend to the shareholder and automatically use it to repurchase more shares of Apple, visa ,etc. Other funds you will receive a monthly dividend or quarterly dividend payout.

My understanding is it always a fee mutual funds, than ETF and regular stocks? But I do like the medical mutual fund.

Good morning Mr. Freddie :) Your understanding is correct, mutual funds have slightly higher fees than etfs. Stocks have no ongoing fees, however, I have a mix of mutual funds in my 401(K), and stocks and etfs in my standard brokerage and IRAs.

I came across Lending Club could u do a video on that, are what're your personal feelings about lending club?
@MoneyandLifeTV
@MoneyandLifeTV 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Freddie thanks for the topic suggestion. I"ll add this to my list. I haven't used lending club to be honest so I currently do not have any experience with it. I have heard good and bad things. It is certainly an alternative investment to consider these days with bank interest rates being so low. If you choose lend here I would just be cautious about investing too much. Like anything else I generally recommend having less than 15% of your total portfolio in it. Treat like a stock or etf. I want to look into what percent of their borrowers typically default on their site. Hope that helps sir. If you get to it before I do please share your thoughts.

should you invest now that the stock market is at an all time high or wait on the crash?
@MoneyandLifeTV
@MoneyandLifeTV 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, honestly that is totally up to you. I'm continuing to invest a set amount of money regardless. However, I have other money so if a crash comes i'll be ok regardless. I'm still expecting a crash in the next few years, but i'm investing in a way that will help me hedge my positions so if the market crashes it won't burn me as bad as others. A crash would be wonderful than I could buy assets at a lower price.

Please mention if their are any front loads or back loads, redemption fees to pay? I’m not sure if your fee takes this into account?
