Just wanna share my personal experience and hope it will benefit some of the youngs here. Im blessed to be able to lead the "barista" life after I turned 40, doing works that I really enjoyed (and importantly for me, able to travel the world). Since then, I was also a weekend sports warrior, marathoner and triathlete, completing many races.I am in the 10, 001 miles club, and thats how much I ran. Just when all seem rosy (and u think im juz boasting), I was hit by a sudden heart attack. Really out of the blue, no one including myself would have expected it. Though I was saved, I am left with ⅓ permanent heart damage and no medical explanation why it happened to a fit person. With my second lease of life now and back to my "barista" life, I want to stress to everyone and myself that there are really more important things in life which need to be discovered by you, your true inner happiness. Go and see the world, experience others life so on your last day, you will not have regret. Yes, saving up and make good investment is important but juz like insurance, they are good up to certain point, over doing them might not yield anything far better in life.

Wow, thank you for sharing your story! We hope you are doing better now! What you say is so true -- saving and investing is important, but so is living life to the fullest, in whatever way that means for you.

Lean FIRE gave me the headspace to eventually find a coast FIRE job. So I quit lean FIRE, and now coas in a full-time job I like that I don't need to overwork in. My biggest challenge is toeing the line between taking it easy and doing too much. Wish me luck! 🍀

Sometimes I say, I'm planning for my "early semi-retirement". I already know exactly what my "semi-retirement career" is going to be. But after watching this video, now i can use the word Barista Fire.

For anyone that is interested in pursuing FIRE seriously - Die With Zero is a good book that provides some counter points on why you should be spending more when you are younger, even if these funds compound into large amounts over time

I choose the simplicity of lean. A small lifestyle, to live big and rich. Peace and love 🙏

I say continually monitor which fire you currently are at, and use that as a guide to how much you need to be scared of getting fired vs having options. If you are aiming at Fat Fire, but get fired and already have enough for a Lean Fire. then you have a choice, coast, barista, be minimal, or find another high paying job. My only interest in fire is as a fear reduction method. More options means less fear. Stopping at lean fire I believe would increase fear.

Give concrete numbers. The usual excuse is "oh it's different for different people". I know. But I want to know _your_ numbers. :)

Most important is living within your means, your health, your standard of living and others. No point in living a lifestyle of others. Just be happy....

A lot of people would have chosen Fat FIRE. In reality it’s good to be financially independent to be Fat FIRE but you may choose a Barrister Fire or some sort. Because giving life a meaningful purpose is just as important or even more important as being financially independent.

Want to hear thoughts and comment on excess and preferential offering for ESR LOGOS REIT. With its offer price at 0.305 vs its current trading price below 0.30, anything I'm missing out on why are they even doing this? 🤔

I am lucky. I achieved FIRE just 1 year before retirement when my passive income became 3X my last drawn pay and 6X my living expenses. I suppose I can call it Happily FIRE..?

S$5,000 expenses per month is reasonable, catering for many “wants”as well, assuming no debt! Yes, F.I.R.E. with Dignity by all means, which I call F.I.R.E.D. Unlike many others who advocate just S$2,000 (or even S$2500) per month, I supposed that’s living below one’s dignity, taking care of only the needs!!
