I think for Endless’s question, they’re wondering if the client will send them only the translated text in the target language, or both the source and target language, which you pretty much covered in your response. I would just add that sometimes they only send the text in the target language, but only because they don’t think of sending the source text, so you can simply ask for it. This has worked for me a number of times.

Powerful information! That’s especially helpful for those who don’t know where to start and looking to have many questions answered. Listening for the 2nd or 3rd time.

Thanks for the useful content. Free CAT tool: how about Matecat? I tried it and found it excellent.

These are some very interesting topics. I'm being taught to have the same proficiency in both my languages (Spanish/English) in order to receive source texts in either of them. Not having to be native level certainly motivates me to improve my Japanese.

Hi Christian, if you want to translate into both of them, then yes. But usually you would only translate into your native language and then the source definitely doesn't need to be native :) Good luck with Japanese! The market is huge there

Hello Adrian, I've discovered your videos and feel like I'm finally on a path to the right steps for translating! I will probably start with SmartCat for something free and beginner's experience, but my question would be WHAT exactly should someone start with to just learn as in type of work or document to translate? I'm thinking of just trying some old college essays or should it be something smaller? That's all I can think of attempting, such as a paper on nanotechnology I translated into Italian long ago. I would love to get it into a CAT tool now and see how it really turned out. But what would you recommend for someone who wants to start playing with CAT tools for future job opportunities and learning to use them at your own pace?

Hey ad great video. I've got very many questions. 1:Do all the agencies require NDA? 2: how would taking help of a friend for final edit or proof read work with an NDA? mean can we ask the agencies and they might give us permission? 3: do the agencies always require that you work with a cat tool? 4: can our stuff get leaked if we use a free server based cat tool and would create problems with NDA? 5: at 14:28 you said the agencies might require you to work with big three four cat tools. Do you mean they might require one of the big three four or 4 at the same time? 6: ready for that Breitenrain game? And whats your prediction? I know thats too many question but i should get some benefit for being the most loyal subscriber and reciver of the highest number of hearts here😎

I think that you are quite modest about your level of English. I would say that you have a C2, on par with a cultured monolingual English speaker. I would definitely hire you to translate into English. Thank you for the useful CAT recommendations. Un saludo

That is kind of you to say, thank you. The thing is, that I've never done it before and have no experience. So I wouldn't feel comfortable working into English.

Thank you Adrian for this video. You didn't mention DeepL translator. Neither in your link below. Does it mean, you wouldn't recommend it? They say, they are the best free-translator in the world.😀 Thank you. 👍

Phrase isn’t free anymore and their privacy policy is horrible; you’re basically paying to train their AI for them

No worries! I should point out that I’m still considering using it because I’m basically technophobic and it’s much more user-friendly on the interface level than the alternatives 😂@@Freelanceverse

I thought I'd come and give a quick update here: I reinstalled MemoQ on my computer, and the difference is night and day - it takes longer to learn to use, but everything about it is way, way better than Phrase (Matecat is not viable as a professional tool imo). The fuzzy matches are infinitely better, and it allows you to manage your translation memories really well. Also, I paid €500 for my license (I got a referral discount code from a friend) 5 years ago and was able to reinstall the program after 3 years of not using it. Whereas Phrase is something like €300 a year - so calculated over 5 years, 3 times the price. All this to say, to anyone wondering what path to go down, I would really recommend setting yourself up properly with a decent CAT tool. Keep your translation memories for yourself and don’t let some Silicone Valley company steal your brainpower and work!
