Thanks for selling/explaining the "strap-to-strap" and demonstrating it so well. I had an argument with Phil McGain about it in 2018 in Maui...he did not understand that it is possible to come out planing (I was staying with him in Haiku...in his workshop, which was all I could afford. Other than that argument, he is a super dude). Excellent descriptions and explanations, Cookie. 10/10.

Thanks for making these videos, they are very helpful. I finally nailed my first planing jibe at Harrison Lake BC, Canada a few days ago! Next goal is to do a lay down jibe. Cheers

Home spot: West Wittering. Gybing skills are really important (my fast tacks are pretty bad). Useful to be able to gybe without hitting the back of the next wave ahead, planing or not, sometimes, but to get round quickly to face the oncoming whitewater. A good gybe is one of the most fun things you can do on a windsurfer.

Agreed! Good to mix them up as well, something like a slam/pivot jive are also really handy for getting round quickly and ready for the next wave! 🌊

@@Cookiesports I certainly use the slam/pivot when I need to! All gybing is fun however you do it.

Thanks a lot for your videos. Really appreciated, helpful and motivating. Goals for this year is getting more confident on smaller FSW boards. And still practicing those jibes… most common home spot, on the fjord just beside the local airport - Trondheim, Norway. 🤙

Will have to start thinking about working up to the strap-to-strap gybe soon. My local freshwater sailing spot in NZ is often quite technical, with steep rolling lake swell. Strap-to-strap would definitely help when it’s like this. Thanks for the tips - both here and in person a few weeks ago 👍

From a beginner -- the videos are really motivating and often give me a point or two that I will work on next time on the water. Also, sound and video recordings are excellent, making it easy to see your points (if somewhat harder to master them 😉🤗). As for the Board Meeting form -- anything that works for you! All your content and teachings are much appreciated ❤!

Just came back from Vasiliki.I had 6 out of 6 days with great conditions. Apart from some fun speed races that I had with friends, I tried to focus on jibing (step). My very first 5 jibes were barely completed during 1st and 2nd day. (I didn't maintain the plaining speed on the exit) All the other days I was just failing. I was wondering if it has any meaning for my imporvement to keep on trying jibes even if I'm exhausted. You see going hard upwind needs effort. PS: Cookie thank you for every single (windsurf) video that you make!

I'm mostly a wind foiler these days, but I've struggled tremendously with the wind foiling jibe. I've gotten a lot better at it in recent times, but I could definitely improve. One thing I did a couple months ago was to change to switching my feet first (step jibe) instead of later (strap to strap jibe). I think it's helped me! If I get my feet switched first, when the rig flips around I'm in a lot better position to sheet in and go. The surprising thing is that it was not that hard to change my jibing style after all these years. I'd never really considered it because I thought it would be too difficult, but it's not.

Step gybe style is definitely easier on a foil! Treat it like a non-planing carve gybe, I’ve got a video detailing a lot more on that that will help you! 🤘🤘

Good plan to always have a goal before you hit the water, and making shorter runs. I’m guilty of hammering out, always looking for the right piece of chop for a jump. Home spot is Poole or Portland Harbour 👍🏻

Probably not so relevant at Vassiliki, but maybe an honorable mention for the pivot gybe and the slam gybe? For me, pivot, slam and carve/step are the 3 I choose from depending on the conditions and the tactical situation (west coast of Portugal).

Useful gybes too, generally people want to know about planing ones- hence why I focused on these two- but I’ve done reels showing how slam gybes work, and other videos encouraging flaire gybes! 🤙

@@Cookiesports yep, plenty of light wind/big gear days this summer I’ve needed the flare gybe! Old skool 😊

I usually sail Lake Macquarie Australia. It's a coastal saltwater lake and can be gusty and choppy. My most used sails are 7.5m twin cam and 7.2m 3 cam as most of our wind is less than 20kts and patchy. It makes gybing harder having bigger sails. I use the step gybe due to the big sails as they rotate slower so the step puts you in a better position to handle the exit . I used to be able to do the strap to strap on small gear , well powered in flat water but I'm getting too old and getting injured too much so I'm just going for safety these days. I used to be able to duck gybe on starboard tack back in the 80s . Back then I found if I just concentrated on keeping an arc and didn't think about the sail it would work. I wouldn't be game to try one these days! I don't like stacking it.

I see you go from overhand to overhand. Any reason you don’t go to underhand on the sail flip?
@CookiesportsАй бұрын
I sure do… often on the exit catching the boom under-arm helps get power on quickly, and keep the board flat and fast. 💪
