Tips: Just buy the 774 and be done--no "progression" needed. I bought the 713 because of the "first year reefer" thing and the inaccurate statement of the max of 0.09 ppm. It's max is actually 0.9 ppm, she misspoke. Now I want the 774. The "pro tip" here is that the 774 tests up to 0.9 ppm and you don't want your phosphates ever anywhere near that high in a reef tank. Most people target somewhere around 0.03-0.1 ppm. The 736 is technically more precise, but the units are non-standard and require conversion or working in parts per BILLION and apparently it has timer issues causing it to shut off too fast. More tips: makes sure to immediately rinse your vials w/RODI water when done, twice. Then store the vials full of RODI water when not in use. Always wipe the vials clean with a microfiber cloth before testing to remove water, dust and fingerprints. Two vials are included w/each checker, but use the same one every time; you'll get more consistent results following these tips.

Awesome info topic. I made the exact same progression from 713 LR to 774 ULR checker..as I kept getting 0.00 reading with my 713 LR checker. A couple questions: (maybe others are wondering too(?): -Is it true that the 713 LR Phosphate checker is not actually “certified” for Marine use? (Or if they all work for Marine use..Does that mean the “Marine” labels or certifications for the 774 and 736 are purely marketing based then?) -Are there other difference between ULR Phosphate and ULR Phosphorus checkers besides the built-in conversion factors? Ie: After factoring Ppb to Ppm, Are there different accuracy and resolutions between those two ULR checkers?

yea but for a 10g softie tank... I doubt I need to let phosphorus rise to 20 PPB. I aim for 10 or so. I could see if you have a large tank packed with corals. thoughts/feedback please and thanks? ps. 2:09. What does the Phosphorus ULR do differently? How is it for advanced reefers? Does it measure something differently? Range?
@BRStv3 жыл бұрын
The phosphorus checker reads in PPB instead of PPM. In other words, the resolution of the phosphorus checker is much more granular than the Phosphate checkers. This level of resolution really isn't necessary for probably 95%+ of reefers.

If you're trying to maintain 0.03 ppm phosphate with as little swing as possible, the Phosphorus PPB checker (then converting to phosphate) is going to be your best bet.

@Eroc.482 жыл бұрын
Really, the reading disappears after 2 minutes? lol Anyone stop to think that Hanna programs it to do that. I mean, I have a children's thermometer to check my kids temp that stores the last reading until it's used again. I can literally use it once a year and still know what was the last reading of her temp. I was thinking about getting these but kinda skeptical now. Now, i just need to find out how much the consumable is to make a decision.

I see the packets have a shelf life. How long typically is the shelf like of the individual packets - and does the shelf life of the packets vary depending on what type of test it is? (Phosphate, calcium, PH etc...)
@BRStv2 жыл бұрын
The shelf life does depend on the type of reagent being used (some are liquid and some are a powder). Usually it's at least a year out. Reagents for the phosphate checkers are usually right around $10 for 25 packets, so about $0.40 per test.

Hanna kh checker is great, but the phosphat checker are a pitty.send it twice already back for fix, every time they say all is OK. Today I test my water prio to water changing, it showed 0,15, then after the water change 0,23 wich is impossible. Then I decided to use two bottles for the test one with the tank water, one with the tank water + reagent, I run the test 5 times with the same bottles, normally I should get close results but not each time I get different results from 0,14 to 0,04!! That is a big margin for error. I encourage you to do the test guys. It is not because a number is written on it that it is accurate. I not more trust Hanna, or my product have a problem and their customer service is incompetent or the product is bad as they say that it works perfectly. Believe me I did the test in the right way.
@Val_Halla7773 жыл бұрын
Have you checked Phosphate of your source water used for making saltwater? Also, you could purchase a reference solution to check the accuracy of your checker. (Hint: I always use two vials when testing with Hanna checkers. You can’t then have C1 and C2 ready to go instead of having to add reagent to same vial after C1)
