Outstanding review. Just wanted to share with you. I just received my copy of the Yes "Relayer " album from the Rhino Fidelity Releases yesterday, and my first impression of listening is " Perfect." I have had multiple copies releases from an original U.S copy I bought back in 1974 to the Friday Music and the Steven Wilson remix release years back, and I have to admit the Rhino release is the best. The music is simply amazing. The mix sounds very clean and even. The album cover is glossy, with thick cardboard, similar to the Analog Productions releases. The album cover has the original Roger Dean artwork, and it comes with a liner note sheet, a lyric sheet, and an OBI strip. The back cover has numbered copies up to 5000. So, if you plan on doing an album review for the Yes " Relayer " album, you will not be disappointed. Thanks for sharing 👍 cheers from Indiana.

Thanks for the info. I haven’t ordered it as it was a downer for them to lose Wakeman at the time and Relayer lost some of the Prog feel.

@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion Good point with reference to Rick Wakeman. But I will tell Patrick Moraz did an amazing job on the Relayer album. My first Yes concert was back 1976, The Solo's tour. Which was an outstanding concert. It was so great to have Wakeman return to Yes in the fall of 1976 and start with recording "Going for the One " and with my personal all-time favorite track " Awaken " . Thanks for the post.

I myself agree that the new AP release is the best. I have 4 different pressings of this record plus all the old 12" singles from it. It's my wife's favorite album, so I've been on the hunt for what my ears consider the best possible copy. I have the new AP pressing, the Abby Road pressing, the MoFi pressing and the original US pressing. Up until this latest release, the 12" singles had sounded the best to me. But the AP is just amazing. It will be my final copy I purchase. It just blew the doors off of my ears. I love it.

Good comparison video. I haven’t read other comments yet but I’m sure someone would have let you know that the original was not from analog as you say in your video.

@@Robbo-eh3wb "The Kick album was recorded to one of the early an Otari 32-track digital recorders, “but slaved to Studer 800 MK3" so it is fair to presume the original was cut to vinyl from digital but I’ve never seen that confirmed. Many recordings in the 80s were recorded to both. As a matter of fact, on these sessions, the digital failed at times while the analog tape was 100% in tact. So it makes one wonder how the end product was put to vinyl.

I'm still waiting for my copy of this 75th Anniversary edition. Music Direct hasn't even shipped it yet. I do have some 7" 45's by INXS and six of the songs from the "Kick" LP are on those singles. Some of them are Canadian promo 45's and the rest are U.S. copies which were all pressed at Specialty Record Corp. I have several copies which have "Need You Tonight" on them. One is a test pressing of the retail version, one is a promo copy and I have 2 copies of the retail version with picture sleeves. I also have 2 retail copies of "New Sensation" with picture sleeves. The Canadian promo of this song also includes a radio remix edit. The radio edit version is actually 2 seconds longer than the retail singles or the LP version. I've also got a Atlantic Oldies Series of "What You Need" which isn't on "Kick".They all sound really great to me and I will compare them with the new LP when I get it.

It's nice that after so very long these remastered releases are finally living up to expectations. UHQR's aside I had given up for the most part, save for MoFi's of records I'd worn out for decades. The budget friendly Atlantic Series have more than lived up to expectations. On the downside, my wallet ain't happy! On a semi-related note, some good news about Rhino. I had ordered a few records, mostly so I could get free shipping on Devo's Freedom Of Choice. I received my package, and it appeared they slightly changed the box to have extended wings. Every record was in perfect shape, but they forgot Devo! I emailed support, was immediately contacted back with an apology, then a "shipped" notice the following morning. Emailed Monday, received Wednesday. Out of 3 previous shipments, 2 came with slightly bent corners, but not enough to complain. So it seems they're listening! I responded with a thank-you.

From what I have read this was a digital recording - so it seems. There is a good article on mixonline about the making of the album. Sounds like AP nailed it again. From the article: The Kick album was recorded to one of the early an Otari 32-track digital recorders, “but slaved to Studer 800 MK3, which saved our bacon a couple times when [the Otari] said it was recording but actually wasn’t,” Nicholas says.

@@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion yes-an original nm us press. Didn’t get a chance to compare the 45. Dollars are slimmer these days so I try to pick smart for my collection. Want to get the rhino Devo as those Warner originals are rough as. Picked up the 1st Black Sabbath artista us press and that was a great sounding record as was a beat up copy Of TRex Electric Warrior. Would love to find a VG+ of that. Kick makes me want to try finding a Listen Like Thieves. Great records but I never bought them in their day due to all the air time they occupied. Cheers-

I was expecting greatness and instead I think this release is quite terrible. The OG must be miles better. I find this too bright and thin. From the sounds of it the MOFI might be more my jam as a higher resolution system will pull the highs out that both of you report missing in action and will probably correct for the muddy bass. I wonder if the problem is that this latest crop of mega bright Atlantic 75s, Rhino HiFis & MOFI 1-Steps are being mastered to sound good on more basic systems that the majority have - because I tell you - on a reference level system these things are simply not acceptable. Thin, bright, antiseptic. All the warmth and musicality is gone. Affordable setups must be glossing over the whole presentation IMHO. Respectfully, Oz Let There Be Sound, L.L.C.
@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion3 ай бұрын
Brad has a much higher end setup and his experience aligns to mine, so it’s not 100% all these cuts being made for lower end systems. The OG is not miles better or better at all. You’re one of the first here to have such a terse experience with these reissues compared to many others. It would seem the only common denominator on this experience leans more to your listening/taste and your system. I do appreciate your input and perspective…

@@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion Does Brad list his equipment anywhere? If not, you should probably list it in the info section of your video every time you guys collaborate so those of us who are interested in this information, can easily find it. Incidentally, I don't have a terse reaction to *ALL* the reissues currently being put out. But overall, yeah, I have to admit I have not given MOFI, Rhino HiFi and AP Atlantic 45 series the same "hall pass" that most of KZbinrs award them. I mean, according to some, these companies walk of water and they don't have any "dogs" and that simply ain't true. Their track record is very spotty IMO specially MOFI with the latest crop of One-Step titles which are the absolute worst offenders. Second place for sucky track record goes to Rhino HiFi. The Atlantic 75 series is the least offending overall. They get it right more often than not. Cheers!

That is incorrect. The Miles Showell is from a 177.4/24 file made in Australia straight from the 1/2” master tape using a modified Ampex ATR-102 reel to reel machine. INXS’ team in Australia made the transfer straight from the tape in the vault. It does sound better than the AP.
