AIG knocks spots off Simple Traffic if you have the time to install it. The models are far superior and your airports will really come alive. I always use the AIGFP format which means that you must use the AIG Traffic Controller program each time to inject the traffic. You must keep it open in the task bar. This is how realisitic it is. There are more than 40 Ryanair just parked up nose to tail at EGSS due to the pandemic and if you go to LEMD you'll see a bunch of BA A380's parked up with engine covers. Amazing.

I watched the videos outlining the seemingly super complex installation method for AIG and decided I'd go with Simple Traffic. It's a fantastic and low cost quick and easy solution, but just one look at the generic AI aircraft models the liveries sit on is still an immersion killer and leaves you wanting much more. In fact it motivated me to stick with AIG until I mastered it and I'm so glad I did. Yes it's laborious and time-consuming, but the immersion makes it really worthwhile.

Since its a sim, having things as realistic as possible is the whole point for me, so here I am, probably like you around 6 hours in, but still more time to go, downloading the models and liveries one by one for each airline (also chosen EGLL for my first airport to do this for so this doesn't help with the shear amount of airline possibilities that could spawn). AIG looks like the kind of backend fun I used to have customizing AI in past Sims, esp fs9 No hurry, just noodle away over time and enjoy the results. Don't think I could stand looking at ST. Half the fun of AI traffic IS the various real world models.

Hi Gavin, great comparison of the two programs. I use the AIG program I know it’s time consuming to install but I think it’s more realistic with the different models available. It’s still in Beta as well so hopefully if it continues to be developed installation may become easier and more models and liveries added.

@@Shahama911 I have AI traffic on, generic models off and ground aircraft traffic set to 0. You have to make sure you launch the AIG traffic app after launching the simulator. It takes a while until it fully loads. I think if you're missing planes that has more to do with the simulator, AIG only does textures and model matching.

I prefer AIG because of closer to reality, but yes its a pain to get everything setup just right with all the liveries, models and airliners. Still working on the sim settings to see if AIG flight plans or MSFS live traffic or Real time online, to see which is closer to the real deal so still testing. Let me know if you a particular preference for either or.

Great Video Comparison, AIG Traffic is much better according to me and with any doubt the best Traffic Mod since MFS has been released ! and it is more realistic with very good aircraft models designed . Also with Simple traffic, many planes fLying at low altitude above and across the airport: Kind of Anarchy. and lastly, AIG Traffic is free with many flightplans and airlines to download ! I know you made it clear that Aerosoft's Simple Traffic is more FPS friendly but how significant was the difference? AIG's is clearly more attractive as it is more realistic, and besides the first setup, it is also free. BUt is it worth the performance hit?

AIG is much much more better, and the time taken to install everything you need, is well worth it. and its freeware is just amazing, i brought the deluxe edition of msfs 20 last year, and after that i dont really want to invest in anything other payware, except the TCA sidestick and throttle, hope boeing one releases soon, gonna buy it too.. miss flying 787, currently still learning it.

Just Flight Global Traffic will be coming to MSFS which will put an end to all the hassles of Live traffic. I currently us it for Xplane and the accuracy is amazing, no missing aircraft models no crazy installs...

AIG models are crisp more detailed, the planes use flaps and gear (even on vatsim), the planes also use push tugs and gates, they also behave very well with each other and talk on in sim ATC

This review isnt right because with AIG you missed you can BULK download/install. It should not take 6 hours! Use CTRL click to select each airline then click (bottom left) OCI BULK (enable Skip manual to make it fully auto). It only takes as long as it takes you to select each airline.. then leave it donits thing. It took me 10mins and then it ran for an hour downloading automatically. The loading time issue (I have) is that if you install every airline (1000s of model/liveries). This takes ages to load because there are around 10k "error messages" generated with those models (open Console after flight loads in Developer mode). Things like missing animations, lights etc. They seem to all work but it takes about 5minutes to go through all the error logging! The optimum is probably what youve done, manually select just the airlines you need (with bulk download of course) therefore reducing the errors/loadtime. You should check your console and see how many errors you have, its probably only a few 100, hence your faster loadtime. What MS need is a feature to skip validation of models that have already been auccessfully loaded. Maybe by 2025!

AIG is nice but it’s way too long to both setup and launch the program every time when you want to update or add liveries. Also, the traffic manager crashed on me several times, so I’m not too sure about stability. You can use the default traffic from MSFS and it will still try to use the correct model and livery however. But overall, I prefer Simple Traffic. I fly in VR and not online yet and seeing the liveries and a variety of generic models is more than enough for me. Thanks for a very nice review.

Got AIG installed, my main gripe at the moment is the increased loading time of the sim. Granted I downloaded the whole lot which comes in at 25GB, which sits in my community folder. I wanted all the liveries because I'm looking for realistic but not sure the insane loading times is worth it. Especially considering the underlying sim has too many AI bugs which AIG can't fix themselves. Jury still out for me.....

First reaction: AIG is the way to go. Second thought: oh wait, air traffic in Australia is still mostly dead (slowly recovering). Third idea: and one day they will monitor actual real ATC at your location (or at least monitor Flightradar24) and translate that into *real* real-world traffic. Delays, route variations, etc.

I went for AIG as more liveries etc more realistic. I only used the traffic manager couple of times but it’s great for vatsim model matching. Tho I have noticed a drop in performance not sure if anyone else has ?? May go to simple traffic if that’s the case!

On AIG traffic the aircraft collide into each other when taxiing. They just roll straight onto the runway without clearance and stack up on top of each other, landing aircraft land on top of the waiting aircraft.

Yes you need to open vpilot and then add the vmr under model matching. Make sure you have it at the top of the list if you have other vmr present

Hi Gavin, when you had the "live traffic" on -- with both of these offerings, I only saw arriving traffic, but no departures. In your testing did you ever see any departing aircraft, with either the Aerosoft or the AIG add-ons?

I too never seen any departing traffic. I too have AIG and I only get landing traffic, but it is a well known bug that Asobo have still not fixed since it appeared in SU5. Also Asobo need to fix the taxi speed of AI traffic, it is very, very slow.

If you turn off live traffic, you should get departing/arriving traffic. I hear traffic on clearance delivery getting IFR clearance, ground getting taxi clearance, and tower for landing/takeoff clearance. I’ve tried it with both and I still get some traffic departing (AIG-injected) and landing traffic (live traffic), but it seems better with live off at least at the moment.

I’ve tested AIG at Gatwick and New York JFK and I could see some aircrafts departing. I think you can see aircrafts departing when you activate the AIG Traffic Controller. It seems it’s working with a large database of official actual flight plans for each airline. So it knows exactly which aircraft, which model, which livery, what time shall depart which airport and then land at designated airport according to the official flight plan. It means this also works in “offline” mode without live traffic enabled in the sim. I’ve spent a couple of hours by testing, monitoring and comparing the AIG traffic against the real-world live traffic from flight radar 2 4 and it is perfectly matching. I am happy like a small child that I can finally see live traffic around me. And as a bonus, these AIG aircrafts are recognized by the sim and internal AI logic, so when I communicate with ATC (by using Pilot 2 ATC), they ask me to line up and wait. While waiting for takeoff clearance from tower, I can see aircrafts departing directly from my cockpit. And when it’s my turn, I get the clearance… it’s incredible feeling, it’s really super cool.

To get the injected AIG traffic working, can you please clarify: In the "Traffic" tab, what exactly do you have "Aircraft Traffic Type" set to? And in the "Data" tab, what various settings do you have in the sub-section "Data Connection"?

@@martinfendt1305 Tab TRAFFIC -> Aircraft Traffic Type = Real-Time Online (1st scenario) / OFF (2nd scenario), Ground Aircraft Density = 0, Generic Plane Models = Both OFF. Tab DATA -> all six options are ON, Cache set to 200 GB. In order to see airplanes departing, there must be running application AIG Traffic Controller with enabled option to inject traffic (on tab Settings). To verify it's working correctly, the application AIG Traffic Controller is showing correct location of your loaded aircraft and Zulu time is synchronized. Aircrafts injected by AIG Traffic Controller do not have nameplates in the simulator, but they are identified on application map. You can track them in AIG Traffic Controller and see them in simulator. Aircrafts injected by simulator itself have nameplates (this only happens when Aircraft Traffic Type = Real-Time Online). When you set it to OFF, all aircrafts with nameplates disappear and you can only see aircrafts injected by AIG Traffic Controller without nameplates. And when you close AIG Traffic Controller, then all aircrafts disappear from simulator. I just started simulator in order to provide specific data on departing aircraft. I loaded my A32NX at KJFK. It takes a few minutes to get busy traffic around you. At first, you can see several aircrafts parked at gates. And slowly they start moving around one by one as per departure schedule at given airport. Namely, the 1st aircraft departing was on runway 31R, it was Delta Connection airline, aircraft E75S Embraer E175LR. It was N231JQ with flight plan DL5829 (KJFK-KPIT). In my simulator, it took off at 00:23 Zulu time (19:23 local time). Then I checked the real-world departure schedule at KJFK and I could see that flight number DL5829 from New York to Pittsburg is slightly delayed with planned departure at 19:34 local time. It was Delta Connection airline, aircraft E75S Embraer E175LR. The only difference was in aircraft registration number. In simulator, I saw N231JQ, but in real world, the airline used today another aircraft registered under N214JQ. And after that, other aircrafts kept departing in approx. every 2 minutes or so. Pretty cool :-) I probably sound like AIG sales representative, but I am not. Last week, the Simple Traffic wasn’t available yet. I couldn’t buy it until Monday, Nov 15. After I saw Gavin’s video, I’ve read some comments and found something about AIG. After quick research, I was ready to install it. It took me a couple of hours on Saturday. Otherwise I would definitely buy Simple Traffic, but since they didn't give me a chance, I installed AIG instead... Anyway, I would choose AIG later, because I want to see matching models flying around me, not generic ones.

Fps drop doesn't depend on the liveries etc, but rather how much traffic is being injected and shown, so its the same as all other livery packages 👍

Would love to give AIG a go but apart from the install process being long,every sim update I delete the community folder as I can’t copy it elsewhere, and I would hate to re do the entire install every update,my airports only take a few moments but I’m guessing this would be a nightmare for this add on.

Can someone tell me, if you're using AIG w/ Live Traffic, do you still need to inject with the Traffic Manager?

You do not need Traffic Manager running with live traffic. i.e. Real world traffic info is pulled from the Asobo server. Traffic Manager loads the AI flight plans to populate the world. However, something I have noticed is that using Live traffic, I only see arriving traffic. Departing traffic does not seem to be represented. If anyone else sees it differently, then it must be a setting that I have set differently (either in MSFS or AI manager).

@@markdnffc theres a work around in live traffic, open aig traffic controller but dont inject traffic. for some reason it creates a duplicate of the planes loaded in at the gate that never depart (from live traffic data) and they actually push back and depart etc

Yes, for AI generated traffic. Not for live traffic.

Wait is AIG actually live traffic? I thought it was just flight routes from the airline but they weren't actually live! So are they? If so that is so sweet ;)

Live if using MSFS Live traffic.

@@Easyjetsimpilot If you end up deciding you want traffic but not live, do you just put AI in MSFS for AIG traffic that's not live I assume? I am downloading all my airlines right now and just went through the full list and took a good 20 minutes LOL

AIG without a doubt is the better choice! All the work that's involved pays off in the end!

Not good, it’s so hard downloading there not said the support it’s terrible, and have conflicts with antivirus, the navigator like crome and others. No one’s answer for help to get the adds. But there are fast to charge the amount from the bank. I have 2 days waiting for help.

AIG is obviously better visually, but with changes to the Sim everytime an update is released all those hours to set it up may have to be repeated.

There was no change in the recent sim update and it still runs great... so what are you talking about?

@@rayhughes I don't - you referenced that every sim update that you have to repeat the AIG setup. AIG just released this beta pre-sim update. They just did a sim update and AIG still works, no zero work to keep it running.

@@cebrady nope i did not suggest that. .you have misinterpreted. To help you clairfy .. i am merely suggesting that future updates by Asobo may alter the AI traffic ans invalidate all the work to install AIG traffic. Aerosoft has already hinted at aircraft model changes and this fits in with what was said at the last Asobo meeting where it was hinted a Ai modeling would be looked at.
