Which is faster - BMW XM v NEW M2

It’s time for BMW’s entry-level M to go head-to-head with the range-topping BMW M!
We’ve got Mat in the all-new BMW M2, and he’s lining up against the behemoth that is the BMW XM! But how do the two of them compare?
Well, let’s start with a look at the M2. It comes equipped with the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as found in the latest BMW M3. However, the power has been decreased, in this instance putting down 460hp and 550Nm of torque. This is sent to the rear wheels only through an 8-speed automatic gearbox (but don’t worry, a manual is also available).
A New BMW M2 will set you back around £65,000, and when you roll it onto the scales, it’ll weigh in at 1,725kg.
But that weight is nothing compared to the almighty XM, which is almost a tonne heavier, tipping the scales at 2,710kg! In terms of power, it comes packing a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with an electric motor, which combines to produce 653hp and 800Nm. These send power to all four wheels, but there’s a problem… The price starts from an eye-watering £148,000!!
So how will this play out - will the more powerful car snatch the win? Or will the lighter M2 sprint to victory? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

It is heavier because it is made on an M4 chassis making it bigger. But one thing is certain, new and old M2 drive better than Audi RS3 or Mercedes A45 AMG.😀

I really don't think the stock half speaker pumped sound does any echoing in that area. And if I recall correctly, the coarser the surface the more sound gets "absorbed" (spread out) and not deflected back cleanly.

Nice video, i drove the XM last week at the BMW M Tour. Comparatively to my M5 comp, the gearbox puts the power down instantly in all the Sport + settings. The XM is comparable to a Range Rover SVR and not a little jetpack M2. Cheers

😂 engineer? They stole their gearbox tech from a 1970s tractor and the diffirentials are less advanced than RX8 and S2000 diff and their junk engine is one of the worst there is reliability wise. Yeah "engineered" their way to the bottom of reliability charts and top of the engine failure charts. Porsche too, absolute junk cars now they need towed off after 3 laps.

As a regular track driver with M4 and GR Supra, I’m quite surprised with the XM’s driving dynamic and balance of handling. It’s not as quick as current M3/4 for sure, but considered a daily performance SUV with 2.7 tons weight, BMW M ready did decent job. With the battery, BMW can actually play more on front and rear weight distribution which contribute to handling. Then the heavy weight can be compensated by more sticky tires and suspension tuning (e-sway bar). When I see the XM has shorter braking distance than M2, we can assume the BMW put very sticky tires on the XM in order to compensate the weight.
