Tbh valguero was 1 of my favorites it was the most accepted but a large above ground map with a decent sized underground aberrant section without needing of teleporting was great in my opinion

I only recently started on fjordur on single player. Made a base at helms deep and have been restoring an upgrading the castle. I already know the portal cave location and I haven't even explored this part of the map fully yet, but I already want to go visit the other realms and build a base in each.

Fjordur is a nice map with quite a bit to explore hopefully you enjoy the realms! I am unsure about single player but on servers the realms do not allow flyers other than the desmodus you can also get to them by holding down left face button on console (x on xbox) I think its r on pc.

Thanks, I have only played on The Island, Scorched Earth, Abberation, Gen1/2 and Crystal Isles, so this gave me some ideas for where to go next. Was thinking Fjordur, seems like the best option indeed.

Fjordur is an awesome map. Aberration is one of the best maps in ark as far as where you start and how you progress and Fjordur is right there with aberration on pve progression. Makes it a blast. I am currently working up to try and beat all alpha bosses in a 100 days hardcore on fjordur and it has been a lot of fun.

I really like Lost Island, Valguero, and Fjordur. I love Aberration but I hate that dinos are limited to what can be taken out of pods

Ya they coded the map to keep certain dinos off for official purposes but I have not tried on single player but I imagine they just left the code as part of single player. It should be made into a configurable boolean and added to options so hosts can decide how they want to handle aberration.

Honestly despise Fjordur. For similar reasons why I despise Crystal Isles. In spite of how beautiful they can be at times. They're just bonkers, and off the rails to a point that they're literal Fantasy Maps in our Scifi Dinosaur survival game. It's the primary reason I really just wish the game ended with Extinction. I do agree Valguro though interesting is well "Bland" with the only thing really going for it being the Deinonychus. Fjordur in particular I absolutely grew to hate it within minutes of playing it. I don't like the Rune icon in the corner of the UI always being there ie more UI vomit. Despise the redesign of the Drops and Obelisk not looking like ARK, and JES*S the game is too cluttered with pristine mint condition pre-made structures, to a point that sometimes it even ruins locations. Like that island on the east side of the map being ruined by a small shack in the best spot on the Island.... And worse... the OCEAN IS SO SHALLOW! I guess they have zero love like those who made Valguro for making a proper Ocean, and yes I know it has canyons under water, and caves, and yada yada I've explored many of them, but they don't compete with an actual ocean with the sense of depth, and when you see so many large sea creatures poking out of the water like you do in Valguro and Fjordur ITS BECAUSE IT'S TOO SHALLOW!!! To me Fjordur isn't even in the same class as most of the other Free DLC maps in my opinion. With it's only lure being all the content from other maps/DLC being merged together with a ridiculous Valheim veneer thrown over top of it. After all these years I still consider The Center and Ragnarok the best Free DLC maps, and The Island the best map over all. I mean out of all the maps The Island is one of the few you can get all the Tek Engrams still, have multiple boss arenas, and a crap tone of caves to explore, an amazing and ridiculously deep ocean. Yes I know Fjordur has Realms as well but I honestly don't care. Map shouldn't require you to teleport to different realms just to feel more special.

The Islands and Ragnarock are 2 of my favorite maps! I miss the first person no gama days it made sneaking up and hiding so much easier.

Tbh The Island is a cool map but trying to find high level dinos is so painful to me... im on a hunt for some theri and only find level 30-40... make me want to quit and start on ragnarok

Unfortunately most of the cannon maps are this way the high level dinos are rare. The non cannon free dlc maps have the dino levels adjusted up. Center Ragnarock Valguero ect 100-150s are the norm.

It is annoying, i ended up with like 200 thyla claws after killing them to try respawn higher levels, but finding a 150 on them servers are so much more satisfying

I only have the free maps, my fav is probably ths island because i know it the most. im a solo noob tho soo for me the games insanely hard. pvp is out of the question the creatures are op enough. i have a hard time taming dinos or even traveling around the map. air? sure but you have to land sometime which i have had some bad landings lol. the insane amount of time you have to play - grind is crazy and then you take a few day break and everything gets destroyed, unless of course you play solo. idk if im going to buy ark 2 tho... maybe ragnarok and the centre are good too. the other free maps are hard asf, im not sure which once exactly but i spawned in and died 80% of the time just to see each spawn location. tough asf.

If you are playing on official servers going it solo is super rough. Single player you can up the rates for a more fun experience. There are also some nice mods to create a new experience and add some really nice quality of life changes. There are also some really nice unofficial servers if your looking for higher rates. Ark 2 is sounding like it will have a completely different single player experience. Until more info is released we will not know for sure though.

Returning player, haven’t played in forever. Last played on crystal isles and I don’t know if I want to continue on the map. Played ragnorock a million times lol. Thinking of trying lost island. No clue though, theres so many maps now lol.

Ya lol. If you enjoyed Crystal Isle you will probably like Lot Islands. If you prefer smaller maps with a somewhat progression system Fjordur is nice.

Out of the free maps and base map if you do not care about taking along time to find high level dinos the islands is one of the best maps. Fjordur is great as well as it has a lot of the unique dinos and A similar boss progression to the islands. It is a smaller map but also has 3 new minibosses. You can also teleport between islands and realms. This map has a lot of hidden and fun caves to explore. If you are looking for a large map with the classic dinos the Center is great and has a lot of nice looking spots. As far as exploring and adventuring there are only a few fun caves and the boss is Fairley easy. Ragnarock can be a lot of fun as well. Lots of interesting places to explore and a couple fun caves. The boss fight is manticore and dragon. Depending on the experience you want to get out of the game will depend on what map is best. Fjordur and Islands would be my top picks personally. Throwing in some mods could make the game a lot more enjoyable as well.

depends Ark 1 support is about to end and they are launching ark remastered aka Ascended in a month or two. If you are not planning on moving to ascended they are good maps and should go on sale if they are not already.

my fav is probably lost island followed closely but the island the original, i liked fjordur has some nice spots to build but it didn't grab my attention like the lost island map did. i play pve only. valguero and ragnorak were not bad maps but i didn't valguero's water scene you had to go to massive tunnels for the hogher levels water dinos while ragnorak had some really cool area but they screamed at my say build here build here.

Are dlc dinos only on the dlc maps they are from

Yes and no. There are different types of maps: Cannon Non-Cannon A cannon map (The Island, Aberration, Ect) Will release in a paid for DLC and usually adds some new items and dinos to the game only avaialble on that map. but then later a non-cannon (Free DLC) Map will come out and will usually have the last paid for DLC dinos and items. Not always though. Example: Scorched earth had wyverns. Ragnarock comes out later with Wyverns and a griffon. Ragnarock has not received any dlc dinos that have come out after its release though. Some non-cannon maps have also gotten new dinos to drum up excitement for the free map. Lost Islands and Fjordur probably have the most dino varieties in them. Reapers I believe are still limited to 2 maps Gen 2 and Aberration. Are there specific dinos you are looking for?

Official servers? If so someone might have a big base somewhere with lots of dinos rendering it lagging the server. It is unfortunate but the servers can not handle a lot dino information and animations.

Center, lost island and Crystal Isles are probably the biggest maps. Aberration is kind of big vertically but it is mostly walls since it is vertical. Gen 2 is pretty large as well with some new dinos in it. lost Islands probably has the most variety of dinos that and fjordur but fjordur is small.

Ya there is a vast difference in how maps are viewed based on if you are pvping or pveing. There really are only 3 maps with maybe 6 base spots between them al that are good for pvp. There are a lot of rat holes but those end up patched/ bannable / or are easy to raid for those that know how.

I lost track of your rating system, lol Center best for main base, fjord, rag, ab, best to visit. Gen and extinction for new players that plan on getting ark 2 because they are nothing like what ark started out as and offer mini games for small minds

i played fjordor alot when it came out and didnt really enjoy it that much, the mini bosses were just boring and was easy loot and the realms were empty, also the OP bat that can skip artifact caves was also shit. tried aberation but it just annoys me.. i always end up going back to ragnorok.

The first 3 months of map dropping is basically an alpha test of the map lots of issues often times empty of dinos for weeks. Takes them about 3 to 6 months to get the map into what could be considered a beta stage. Fjordur should feel more alive now if not to cramped with dinos. but it is definitely not for everyone. Ragnarock is a solid fun map.
