I have a BlueJay mounted directly on its pedal board. It's a fabulous pedal platform amp. The BlueJay is rather ho-hum on its own but comes to life with a good OD that's capable of some gain in front of it. I have a Satone English Rose in front of mine that works well for what I'm after. And if you wind up grabbing one of these don't fall for the "changing out the tube" nonsense. I did. Let me save you some time and unnecessary expense. I tried a bunch of tubes. I could tell more of a difference in tone by simply tweaking the drives. I also have a JaCkMan II. The meteOR II is next. Great demo Marty.

Yes I have a BlueJay too and its a great pedal amp. I usually use a little 5W amp, but with 20W I can crank it up a little louder with the BlueJay when I want. Great review Marty. I think this is the first Joyo amp demo where someone actually pointed out what each amp was inspired by. It's the effects loop on these that really sells it for me - I prefer to run any time-based affects through a loop, but too many amps come without one. I get where you are coming from with the Jackman - that you can always add drive, but it's harder to take saturation away. (Especially if you happen to have some really hot pickups) Having said that, I really liked the Meteor and the Zombie.

I already own the Meteor II and Jackman II. The Meteor has a better distortion channel, out of the two, with a cleaner clean channel. The Jackman is louder, and, being modeled after the two channel version of the JCM800 amp, works better as a pedal platform for distortion and overdrive pedals, with both channels taking pedals into the front really well. My current setup involves a Joyo Argos Drive (gain = 9 o'clock, vol = 10) pushing the Meteor II (gain = noon), and a TC Eyemaster (gain = 0, vol = 10) into a Flamma Turbo Rat (gain = 9 o'clock, vol = 3 o'clock) pushing the front of the Jackman II (Gain 9 o'clock), with a Behringer BDI-21 in the FX loop (gain = 3 o'clock, blend = noon). I often swap out the Meteor II for an Orange Super Crush (gain = 6) if I need more volume. I run both amps through 1x12's, in parallel using an ABY. I play death metal, slam, deathcore, hardcore, etc, so not everyone's cup of tea

@needsLITHIUM13 сағат бұрын
@@nickrooney6206 with the 33, you could probably honestly use any of the distortion based ones. Do you prefer a mid forward sound, or a scooped sound? Get the Zombie (even then, if you EQ it in post or with an EQ pedal in the loop, you can make it do anything). If it's mid forward, do you prefer to accentuate the low mids? Go for Meteor. Or upper mids? Get the Jackman. Are you downtuning, or using extended range guitars? IMO the British voiced, mid forward amps work better for downtuning/extended range - most of Fortin's own amps are based on modified Marshall circuits. The 33 cuts a lot of low end and is fairly mid forward, already, and most of Meshuggah's earlier records were recorded with either a Rectifier or the Line 6 POD on the Rectal Frier preamp, which mimics a Rectifier amp. Either way, if you're boosting the front end, all of these should have enough gain, except for maybe the Blue Jay, lol; even then, if you put a decent distortion in front of it, or a preamp pedal in the FX loop going into the front of the amp... If anything, try getting two, and layering them. If you go the layering route, make sure one of them is the Marshall, and pick either the Orange or the Mesa voiced one; with two, you can actually use them live, if you have an ABY and either two separate cabs or a stereo cab.

It's very strange that I chose this one since I'm not an Orange amateur but it was overall one of the most versatiles of those amps in my taste. I just got to buy an EQ pedal to put in the loop (maybe) in order to trim down a bit the mediums and it could fit my tastes better. However, I bought it with the intention to put a TOnex in front and only use the power amp. With this config I got the best of all worlds and it's a small, light and portable setup. I almost forgot. The overall built feel very sturdy for the price.

You could build a great rig with a stereo 2x12 and pick two of the heads and run an AB/Y and use a heavy amp for drive and a cleaner amp for cleans and switch between then or run both . I teched for a tour where the guitarist did this with a bassman and a mesa dual rec and a jcm800 into a stereo cab . So the bassman was his clean channel and the two driven amps into the stereo quad was his drive channel . Wass the best cooking rig I’ve heard ever !

If you went to the trouble of recording a mic”d cab for the sounds, you really should mute the live room audio during the tone samples so that it doesn’t blend with the mic’d audio. You know, I’ve wondered about these for a while, I’ve been hesitant but now, I’ll give the JaCkMan II a chance. Edit: the meteOR II sounds wicked nice too. Damn it, for the price, buy both I guess. Question: what speaker cab(s) have you tried them into and like?
@zakkwyldesdmf1319 сағат бұрын
Zombie the clear winner. But apart from that a design failure in my opinion. They should've designed all amps as single channel amps but with a full 3 band (or 4 band EQ). With a single tone knob you really have to design the EQ VERY carefully. It almost never works.

hello, it will be meteor for me and my cheap splitable Gretch, with eq pedal, hp to define... so, cheaper than a wife 😁, thank you for testing 🤘

I have the Zombie II. Thing absolutely rips. Why no Tweedy? Or are you aware of that one? I def want to get one at some point. Just had to get my Metal on, first. One feature the Tweedy has, that the others don’t, is a fourth knob. Which, if I recall correctly, is a voice knob. From all I’ve heard it makes a tremendous difference and of course, lends itself quite well to the goal. Supposed to sound fairly authentic. Side note, I’m only like 45 seconds in. So if you address my question, pardon my impulsive assumption lol

I’d love to see you do a super poor man’s John Sykes rig with the Jackman and Zombie with just a cheap chorus pedal in front of them with one amp fed through the through output of the chorus pedal and the other through the modulated output. I used to do this with my dsl20 and a rectoverb 25 and my wife and neighbors absolutely loved it lol. It’s a lot of fun and could be an affordable way for people to try a stereo rig. You could also go for a 90s Van Halen wet dry wet rig with the joyos they also have a Vivo that’s 5150 voiced. I’m like you though I tend to like brighter modded Marshall tones and you seem to get some of the best tones out of the Jackman that I’ve seen on any reviews. I would’ve loved to have something like these back when I was starting out. New players really are spoiled with options and that’s cool but the hustle and hunt to acquire gear was part of the fun starting out. You could scratch together a killer wet/dry rig for less than 500 bucks with these little amps.
@rferguson32 күн бұрын
Dude, that is a fantastic idea. The wet, dry, wet thing, that is. Looks like I need two more now lol. Either way, Tweedy is next in line for me. I wish I’d gotten it to begin with bc even though the Zombie has great distortion, I just run a distortion into the clean channel. Matter of fact, I run several pedals. Both ends, too lol. Sound is outstanding on this little beasts

@ yeah I gotta get one, I wasn’t very impressed with them until Marty started demoing them, I’m from the “gotta collect em all” era so buying one is pretty much going to initiate an obsession until I complete the collection.

How to connect all those amps so i dont need to unplug/replug the guitar cable every time. Is it just like connecting pedals?

Nice video, but we are hearing a lot of the guitar string sounds coming through your voice mic vs. the amp itself.

Why are you not diming the volume too? You gotta dime that also to truly hear the spectrum of available tones. It's only 20 watts, it's not gonna blow your speaker.

If I dimed mine (running it through a Marshall 1960A) I’m pretty sure the cops would get called. No need to dime these. They get stupid loud without it

You might as well buy the new positive grid spark 2 and have thousands of free sounds for that price. $600 your set and can play 4 instruments at once and have a Bluetooth speaker all in one amp.
