Why not, as an international student, there are a lot of things you need to carry to Canada, and it's best to carry more and more things that you you don't need to buy them in canada. And you only have to handle with it for a day, so i don't think it's a major problem

The size that you have mentioned 23 x 40 x 55 cm is the standard size for cabin luggage. The bags which are less than or equal to 55 cm, you can take as cabin luggage. Other than that, any dimensions would work till the weight is as per the airline's guidelines.
